Mgo, what's up with your fan base?

Post by TheJON »

Seriously dude, you guys have got one of the most pathetic and delusional fan bases in the country. Doesn't seem to be a small segment either. You sure you wanna claim an association with these tards? Listening to these fools, you'd swear MSU was a perennial national title contender.

Pretty cocky fans for an average program. Just sayin'...............

Naw, it's actually more than just a few. And it's not only the message boards. Heck, I even got a text message from an MSU fan I haven't spoken to in a couple years talking about how Iowa has no shot on Saturday. I read the boards.......we've got no shot. I heard a couple of Sparty fans call into local radio saying we've got no shot. They're everywhere!

I gotta go with Jon on this one.

The most annoying sports fans without a doubt are Sparty fans. (see babs)

I dunno, choosing between hardcore Chowd Fan and SECBSH as the most annoying fans in sports would be quite the bitch. I'm sure they're both factors of factors more annoying than Sparty Fan.

I think you'd probably have to go to Bags Of Urine Lobbing Azteca Stadium Soccer Fan to find a more annoying fan base.

No way. New York sports fan, Boston sports fan, and soccer fan in general top Sparty by far.

But New York and Boston fans at least have something to be arrogant about.

Sparty hasn't been to the Rose Bowl since Reagan was in office.

Well, they do have one of the best hoops programs in the country. But in football, I just don't understand where the arrogance comes from.

Not to go all IKYABWAI, but...

You do realize that many people have the same impressions of Hawkeye Fan, right? I'd be willing to bet that Hawkeye Fan, along with Buckeye Fan, are right at the top of the detestable totem pole in terms average big ten fan perception (clearly, the OSU guys on this board represent a much better sect). Nothing to back that up, just my feeling based on interactions, things I read, etc. Of course, even with all their obnoxious posturing, at least OSU fans have some identifiable reason to be arrogant.

Hell, you fuckers even gloat about how well you travel. Great. You're good at loading up a Caravan with 2 tons of cellulite and mustard breath and traveling 500 miles to see your team play. Good for you. Yeah, Hawkeye Fan is just a beacon of humility and sensibility. Pull an 8 win season out of Ferentz's ass and he makes Lombardi look an after school flag football coach.

And you, JON, of all people, certainly do nothing to buck these stereotypes. I mean, how long have you been jacking your dick to those decade old top 10 finishes?

Mgo, Mgo, where must I begin.................
You do realize that many people have the same impressions of Hawkeye Fan, right?
Yes, I'm well aware of that. And it's well deserved. Try going to Iowa bowl games and you'll quickly figure out which retards are from the small towns in Iowa. They embarrass the fuck outta me.
And you, JON, of all people, certainly do nothing to buck these stereotypes. I mean, how long have you been jacking your dick to those decade old top 10 finishes?
I'm far from a Jihad. I'm just a die-hard fan. I don't come on here disrespecting Iowa's opponents. 2002-2004 = decade old? I also don't talk shit after wins or act like Iowa is anything more than a very good football program- but not an elite one. That's what we are.
Pull an 8 win season out of Ferentz's ass and he makes Lombardi look an after school flag football coach.
You do realize this will be the 5th time in the last 8 years Kirk's team has won 9+ games, don't you??

I am proud of the fact that we travel well and that we sell out Kinnick. I just wish some of the dipshits would stay at home.

My whole point is Michigan State hasn't accomplished anything this decade and Sparty acts like it's a done deal that their 4-3 football team is going to manhandle Iowa's 7-0 squad. I'm not saying this is you, Mgo, but the vocal majority of your fan base is rather annoying.

internet-wise, spartantailgate.com has a better representation of MSU fans than whatever it is you're reading, though of course it's sprinkled with a few douches as well. Try this thread:

Read the original poster, agreed with a lot of his analysis.

Basically, the game for MSU will come down to whether or not they hold onto the football. Iowa is very opportunistic and we will pounce all over a team that makes mistakes. MSU has had turnover issues.

Iowa has not given up a single point in the 2nd half of their 3 road games this year and none of those teams so much as reached the red zone. Hawks have outscored their last 5 opponents away from Kinnick 162-35. So whatever homefield advantage MSU hopes to have, it won't matter even with Iowa's struggles in East Lansing the last 14 years. This is the best road team in the country.

MSU needs to get an early lead and protect the football. I'm telling you, Mgo, if MSU does not protect the ball Iowa will win this by 20-30 points. Iowa is playing with way too much confidence right now and our offense is eventually going to really bust out.

Defensively, I think MSU needs to mix in more nickel packages than our opponents have been doing. Teams seem to believe that the way to shut down Iowa is by stopping the run, but the truth is you gotta stop Stanzi. Our backs are not going to burn you. They're too young. It's better to give us the run and try and contain Ricky because Stanzi is a playmaker and he will burn you if you're not careful and don't respect him enough.

Gopher fans, on the other hand, are the biggest arrogant assholes in the conference, imo, and for absolutely no reason.....but that may have something to do with the Floyd of Rosedale rivalry thing and the fact that they think that anyone living in Minnesota is somehow inherently better than anyone living in Iowa. Fact is, there's only two reasons to ever travel to Minnesota......to go fishing or to watch the Hawkeyes kick the shit out of their Gophers.
No doubt about it. Goofer fans are fucking annoying. Both of them.

55-0. Those bitches will be lucky to keep it that close this year. Fuck them to hell!

just saying, the people who can't resist the urge to call into an AM radio station tend not to be the brightest neanderthals in the cave. i think most reasonable fans are along the lines of:

- our schools play this week, eh?

- uh, yeah.

- we suck. you're going to kill us.

- hardly, our qb is a bitch.

- let's drink.

any fan who rubs in a win is an outright douche, which is why michigan fans have a bit of an issue with state fans, generally speaking. of course, i'm sure it's just as annoying from the other side. i don't know since i don't engage in screw_mich-like antics.

I agree with some of this, but an Iowa blowout won't consist of more than two TDs. Iowa can't drop the hammer on bad teams, yet they're going to go into SS at night, where they haven't won in years, and blow them out? Right. Your team isn't made to blow anybody out. That's not what you do. You have young backs, a mistake-prone qb, an under-achieving O-line, and mediocre WRs (but one hell of a TE). You wear people down defensively and overtake them in the end, and make a few more key plays than they do down the stretch. That's how you win. 20-30? Talk about delusions. And yes, I understand your caveat about fumbles. Still, ain't gonna happen.

my logic? it's an easy thread to follow. i said 'fan,' non?

dantonio and jevon chr??? came out of that episode as a couple of whiny cunts. after publicly ridiculing umich for the app state loss ['we won twice today'] and planting a state flag on notre dame's turf, those wankers saw fit to cry about winning with class? nice.

ja, nearly irrelevant. the last ten years: five first place finishes, four seconds, and one third. it breaks my heart that miami's ranked #1 and michigan #4.

Yeah, your logic. If MSU fan is a douche for rubbing in victories, how is Mike Hart not a douche for the exact same shit? The whole "we let them take leads then come back and win" nonsense - that's not rubbing it in? Please. I love how you guys get to pull the little bro crap after you win the games yet State fan is supposed to keep their mouths shut after a couple Ws in a row. Sorry, but when you act like stuck up douches, especially after winning games you're supposed to win, it's going to come back around eventually.

Fine, but your logic on what defines a douche does not apply to players? You're not down with the whole win with class thing? I'd think a douche is a douche...fan or player.

well, since we're talking about my personal preferences, no, it doesn't apply to players. i think a dick here or there adds intrigue to the rivalry. i like bulletin board material. it was perfectly acceptable - in my opinion - for dantonio to dance on michigan's grave after the app state loss, just as it was perfectly acceptable for michigan to mock his 'moment of silence' after beating them, despite all of state's lectures on class would have you believe.

fans are different. a bit friendly ribbing is fine, ja, but i'm sure while at a game your team just lost you notice the difference between those who say nice game wanna beer and those who run around mocking the fans who lost, as if there's any sort of personal accomplishment in watching people play football.
