One game of mistakes. This team has not beat themselves this year. We entered the game #2 in the nation in turnover margin and penalty yardage. Good teams find a way to win games when they're not playing their best ball. That's what Iowa did yesterday.

Yep, they had six turnovers yesterday, but did they beat themselves? No, they actually won 42-24.
Do you live in a bunker, Mace? Iowa didn't win yesterday. The refs handed them the game. They forced Indiana to give up 260 yards and 28 points in the 4th quarter. Just ask anyone, they'll tell ya!

They tried like hell to beat themselves and also received a little help from the refs. Not to metion one of the whackiest plays I've ever seen in a game that caused a 14 point swing. Luck had more to do with that game whan will.

Oh yeah, it was Indiana.

Luck had EVERYTHING to do with Texas' win over OU. Not even 1% of that victory is on Texas. I can play this game too.

Did it really?

How 'bout the pick McCoy threw when Texas was about to punch it in? Was that luck? No. That is called shooting yourself in the foot. Not only that, but it was Oklahoma. Texas' biggest rival. That game is usually going to be close and OU's defense is fucking stout.

Texas got lucky, perhaps, but they won the game with big defensive plays.

Jon.....you are so fucking clueless that you are reaching .m2 territory.

Iowa played an inferior opponent and needed 28 points in the 4th quarter at home to win. That is not the same as the Texas/OU game. Hell, that isn't even Texas/Baylor.

Iowa is undefeated. Although, they almost lost to NIU and Michigan St.

Texas is undefeated and their closest game was a 16-13 win on a neutral field to their biggest rival. Every other game has been a woodshed type game.

Since we all want to play stats...here are some stats for you:

Indiana averages 23 points per game and 356 yards of offense. UTEP averages 26 points per game and 378 yards of offense. Texas held UTEP to 57 yards of offense and 0 offensive point. So, based on that logic, UTEP is the better team. Texas beat them 64-7 and let off the pedal in the 3rd quarter or could have scored 90. Iowa needed to comeback to win against Indiana. That is the 4th time this year they had to do this. Your team is called the "Comeback Kids" because they are always losing late in games.

So what does this mean? It means that Iowa is ranked where they need to be. Iowa will also lose to Ohio State so none of this matters. Enjoy the Rose Bowl and the beating the Oregon is going to lay on you. Try not to fuck up the turf too much with your loser team as we need the field 6 days later to win the game that really matters.

Comparing stats in college football is utterly meaningless, except within conference play, where everyone is playing the same teams. Even there, it still isn't always all that relevant. If SEC Team A plays LSU's and Bama's Ds, whlile SEC Team B gets to skip LSU and Bama, guess whose offensive stats are going to look better?

Trying to compare the stats of Florida, Iowa and Texas is just ludicrous. Florida's stats include games against Charleston Southern, and numerous other cupcakes. Arkansas has the only offense with a pulse Florida has faced all season. Texas has built their stats on a pile of different cupcakes, but cupcakes all the same. Iowa has built theirs on the back of a bad Big 10, and a laughable OOC schedule.

None of these teams are playing the same teams, so comparitive analysis of their stats are worthless.

That was the point. Stats mean nothing. To quote Coach Muschamps: "Stats are for losers. I would rather win."

As long as we win, it does not matter.

FAIL. Why don't you give me a list of games where Iowa scored LATE to take a lead? I'll give you a hint.....the only game was the MSU game. Nice try, tard, but you fail.......predictably.

10 minutes to go in a football game is not late, by the way. Late = in the last few minutes.

Who was saying Wisconsin would roll anybody? Wisky sucks, and only the most ardent Big 10 honk thinks otherwise. John keeps talking like all these teams, or fans of all the teams, anyway, were saying they'd roll Iowa. Penn St is the only team they've played this whole season where they stood a decent chance of getting rolled, so what's all this crap about, "Yeah, yeah, we hear this every week."

Besides, it's quite different when Iowa St fan says it, versus Texas fan. Texas fan has good reason to say it. They're Texas. Iowa's Iowa. Texas would roll Iowa.

You wanna say someone said a team would roll Iowa? Here ya' go: Texas, Florida, Oregon and USC would all roll Iowa, should they meet in a bowl game. Cincy might too.

Texas would roll Iowa.
Yep, and Iowa has no chance to compete for a Big-10 title. Penn State will kill Iowa. Michigan State will easily finish ahead of Iowa. Iowa won't win more than 8 games. Mike Dantonio is a better coach than Kirk Ferentz. Michigan State is a better program and has a brighter future than Iowa.

I think you should probably just give up dude. You'd figure after about 10 ridiculous predictions that were so far off base, a guy would just quit. But no, not Van. He keeps swinging. I'll give you credit for that. Eventually you'll get just 1 prediction about Iowa correct. Law of averages say so, I suppose.
Who was saying Wisconsin would roll anybody?

USC roll Iowa! Ahahahahahahahahaha!

Try beating a horrible U-Dub team and not getting beat by 80 points to Oregon and then maybe you can consider even keeping it close with Iowa.

Your takes are horrible and you're blinded to a point of annoyance.

USC beat Iowa this year??

Iowa 34
USC 17

I could say the same thing for darn near every team.

Florida has 1 quality win (LSU). But then you could argue LSU's record is the result of scheduling and so how do we know that's really a quality win?

We could pick apart any team and claim that their quality wins aren't really quality wins because that opponent really didn't beat anyone. What we'd end up with is deciding that every team in the country sucks.

Iowa was favored over NIU, Arizona, Arky St, Iowa St, Indiana, Michigan and MSU. They may have also been favored over Wisky.

Where are these "lot of other games" where they weren't favored? The PSU game was the only one all season long where they've been an underdog.

Wisconsin was a 2 1/2 point favorite. Michigan State was a 2 point favorite. Penn State was a 10 point favorite. Iowa opened as a 2 point favorite against MSU, but ended up a 2 point dog.

How about you provide a link showing where Iowa was an underdog in "a lot of games," mister bullshitting Iowa Apologist?

The bottom line is that nobody respects your team. Iowa hasn't been impressive, and nobody really believes in them, regardless of how many scabdick wins they garner against meh teams. Everybody is going to keep doubting them until they handily beat a genuinely good team. That may not be possible with their schedule, since nobody buys this two loss Ohio St team either.

How is Iowa to impress anyone, when they've looked like nothing more than a slightly above average team, all season long. At no point in their season could someone watch one of their games and say, "Damn, this is a dominant team, worthy of a top five ranking, and a shot at the national title."

Nope. It's almost always been, "These guys? This is it? Scabdicking against MSU? Getting their ass handed to them by Indiana, at home, until the refs bailed them out and turned the tide of the game?"

Nobody looks at them and says, "Damn. Scary team. Wouldn't want to have to face that offense," or, "Forget Florida's or Bama's D. I fear this D!"

Each time we watch Iowa, we see a team which just plain doesn't look good. Yeah, they won the game, but the overriding feeling was always, "So what? Who wouldn't have won that game, and much more convincingly? It was just NIU-Indiana-Arky St-MSU-Michigan, etc."

The Penn St game was the only eye opener they've had all season long, and everyone looks at PSU with deep and well founded suspicion, since they own no quality wins. Hell, even in that game Iowa was behind at the half, and they ended up winning due to the absolutely horrible play of the PSU QB.

When every single person in the country who isn't a Big 10 honk is certain your team would get killed by the real national title aspirants, what does that tell you? It ought to tell you that everyone thinks your team is a fraud, because your team hasn't impressed anyone. Moreover, when everyone thinks your team is a fraud, sooner or later they're usually proven correct.

That Season Over troll was essentially created for teams like Iowa, who get by on smoke and mirrors.

about here's where i point out to you the team you root for isn't necessarily part of who you are. it's just a team you hope wins a couple games here and there. i don't know of many people willing to base the performance bonuses they give their employees on whether the team they pull for is 4-8 or 11-1, nor do i know anyone who's ever accepted a marriage proposal because, ah snap, my alma mater beat a school you've never attended.

M Club, point me to where I equated who a person roots for with performance bonuses for employees or accepted marriage proposals, or any of the other bizarre strawmen you attempted to construct.

All I said was that when it comes to smoke and mirrors teams, Michigan fan really needs to stay out of the discussion, especially if it's with USC fan.

See, M Club, that's what's known as a garden variety "college football" take. It has nothing to do with life outside of fandom. So, even for you, that was one absurd attempt at spin.

Anyway, along those same lines, here ya' go. Tell me who's the smoke and mirrors, and who's the real deal...

USC vs the Big 10:

USC leads the series 67-27-2

USC vs Illinois: 11-2
USC vs Indiana: 4-0
USC vs Iowa: 7-2
USC vs Michigan: 6-4
USC vs Michigan St: 4-4
USC vs Minnesota: 4-1-1
USC vs Northwestern: 5-0
USC vs Ohio St: 12-9-1
USC vs Penn St: 5-4
USC vs Purdue: 4-0
USC vs Wisconsin: 6-0

More recently, USC hasn't lost to the Big 10 since the opening game of 1996. Michigan has to go back twenty years to find their most recent win vs USC, and USC is 6-1 against Michigan in the modern era.

Smoke and mirrors, indeed.

First of all, Iowa is not that good. Scoring in the 4th quarter to beat NIU at HOME is not a a sign of a good team. Having to block a field goal LATE to preserve the win at HOME is not the sign of a great team. Being up 7 points to start the 4th quarter against Arizona and Arkansas St at HOME... is not the sign of a team worthy of massive praise. You had to come from behind LATE to beat Michigan State. You had to come up big LATE in the game to hold off Michigan.....at home. I give you credit for beating PSU on the road. But, you were trailing in the 4th quarter and had to score LATE to put the game away. If PSU blocks the field goal and takes it back and scores with a 2 pt conversion, you are tied. So that is LATE.

You needed to aided by the ref to beat Indiana. You entered the 4th quarter at HOME losing to Indiana. Great teams do not do this. I pick OSU to run you because your record against them does not tell me any different. When you constantly under achieve, like Iowa, you do not get the benefit of the doubt. Tressel have won MNC. Ferentz? Hell, you guys wanted him canned last year.

Win something of merit and then run your mouth.

You made a comment about USC being smoke and mirrors, and I pointed out - with facts - that not only is USC not smoke and mirrors, but Michigan is, and it'd probably be a good idea for Michigan fan to stay away from that topic, especially with USC fan.

So, what we have here is you simply stepped on your dick in your zeal to criticize me. Now you're spinning. It's all par for the course.

I wasn't thinking about any team specifically. I was actually referring to your retarded breakdowns of how good teams are based on, oh, I don't know, smoke and mirrors. Remember all those one-sentence paragraphs about how good Michigan St. was? Uh, they're 4-5. How shite Iowa was? They haven't lost. Or that the only reason that Stanford wasn't ranked was because of perception. Too bad they've won their last game this season. And Washington? You actually claimed that they were a good team. Sure there, guy.

Otherwise, USC fan is the last person who should be lecturing anyone about what they can and can't do.

Yeah, because Michigan fan has so much more reason to be able to do so.

Besides, the difference between MSU and Iowa this year has been razor thin. Their records could nearly - not quite, but nearly - be reversed, their games have been so similar.
