Daytona 500 race day
Well, it's that time again. The Great American Race aka The Super Bowl of stock car racing. Should be an eventful 500 miles as NASCAR has loosened the reins on bump drafting while also enlarging the restrictor plate opening to allow more horse power. I guess riding around all day in a freight train wasn't paying the bills, so in an effort to make things more interesting, the boys now got a license to kill out there. Let's hope nobody actually dies and cars and car parts don't go airborne over the catch fence, but I think some outrageous shit is about to happen today.

Re: Daytona 500 race day
I don't think so. There will be a mandatory 10 car crash in the last 10 laps, but other than that, I look for a good race.
I hope Junior has somethin' for these boys today.

Re: Daytona 500 race day
yeah, pretty tame thus far. Nothing like I expected.
AJ Almendinger, wtf?
and it's nice to see Truex landed in a good ride. Not sure what happened there. Did DEI punt him or did he bail on DEI?
Harvick looking really strong, I think he'll be there on lap 200. Most of my team doing well, except for Burton, who's riding around in the back like he normally does. I have a feeling he'll get up near the front by the end.

Re: Daytona 500 race day
I think Truax bagged on DEI
I think Jr ends up buying the shambles that is left of DEI after Theresa runs it into the ground and reclaiming the 8
Not sure what to think of Almindinger. Harvick had both his cars with strong finishes yesterday (#4 Stewart 1st #33 Harvick 3rd) I look for Harvick to be right there at the end. (can I change my picks? :D ) I'm hoping Jr can bring it up from 21st to at least challenge.
I hope both Kurt Bush and Juan Pablo Montoya hit the wall.

Over an hour and a half for what seems should be a simple track repair? Disgraceful...

Re: Daytona 500 race day
Jesus, what a fucked up situation. And here when my RCR boys are shredding. Fox is going to take a major ratings hit over this as casual viewers will be changing the channel. When I said that some outrageous shit was going to happen today, this isn't what I had in mind.

What do you expect from a track in Florida.

Re: Daytona 500 race day
I don't have any Daytona 500 winners in diecast, but I have Jr's "raced version" from his win in the '04 Bud Shootout.
This car looks exactly like his car looked in victory lane, with every rub mark and track splatter on the car.

Re: Daytona 500 race day
Rack Jamie McMurray and DEI.
Sunday is my bowling nite so I watched the finish in the bar in between crashing 10 pins and they had the sound down. Damn those red flags.
I didn't hear what he had to say in victory lane, but he looked pretty emotional... he's now a Daytona 500 champion and I understand what that means.
Damn you Kevin Harvick for not closing the deal. You had the best car all day and into the night yet somehow found a way to lose.

Re: Daytona 500 race day
I'm a Jr and Harvick fan. I had written off Jr myself and was pulling for Harvick. Harvick made an aggressive move to get in front of Biffle on the low side after the last restart. But a group of cars led by Clint Boyer made a move on the high side, as Jr made a move in the middle. Harvick got passed by 4-5 cars, including Jr becouse Jr jumped up on the high side to get around Biffle and Harvick. It became a shootout for the last lap, but Jr was able to hang on to 2nd without getting crashed.
I think Harvick gave himself the best chance to win. It just didn't happen.

Re: Daytona 500 race day
The end result sucked, but I enjoyed seeing the #43 finally lead some laps that weren't under yellow. Hopefully there is more of that to come this year......my guy is due for a win (seeing as though Petty went about a decade and a half without one for me).War Wagon wrote:AJ Almendinger, wtf?

He came from a great push from the #00. Good race by Reutimann and a Top 5 finish.Doug near DC wrote:Where the hell did Jr come frim to finish 2nd?

Re: Daytona 500 race day
I still like Jr. but a part of me died when he left DEI and went to the evil empire, HMS. I didn't like it then and I don't like it now. If he goes on to win 7 championships, I still won't like it.Doug near DC wrote:I'm a Jr and Harvick fan.
Harvick is my boy, along with Bowyer and Burton. Basically anyone who drives for RCR is my boy.
On the first restart, Bowyer and Harvick were lined up on the outside. I felt there was no way in hell one of those two wouldn't win at that point. But Bowyer jumped the green flag I guess and pulled away with no help, which of course allowed Biffle and Truex to grab the lead.I think Harvick gave himself the best chance to win. It just didn't happen.
Bowyer needs to learn how to lay back in a situation like that. I guarantee that if Harvick had been in front at that point, there would have been a different result.
That move he made with about 7 laps left grabbing the lead from Biffle shows what huge balls he has and why he is probably the only guy on the planet who could've taken Earnhardts seat.

Re: Daytona 500 race day
A part of me has always liked Harvick. That is one of the reasons I have several of his cars.
Here is his 2001 Rookie of the Year car.
