Trade not ruled out
Steelers' Roethlisberger awaits fate; trade not ruled out
Tuesday, April 20, 2010
By Gerry Dulac, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

While they are expecting to learn tomorrow what punishment quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will receive from National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell, the Steelers have received trade feelers from other teams and have not ruled out the possibility of dealing their two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback, the Post-Gazette has learned.

It is not believed the Steelers are actively seeking to trade Roethlisberger, nor are they close to doing what they did with Super Bowl XLIII MVP Santonio Holmes, who was traded for a fifth-round pick to the New York Jets because the team was planning to release him anyway.

Nonetheless, the possibility Roethlisberger could be traded, provided the price is right, is not being discounted by the team.

The Steelers did shore up their quarterback corps late today by trading a seventh-round pick to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for veteran quarterback Byron Leftwich, who was Roethlisberger's backup in 2008.

Meantime, the Post-Gazette reported on its website earlier today that the Steelers are expecting to hear Wednesday what punishment Roethlisberger will receive from Goodell in connection with an alleged sexual-assault incident in Georgia.

Roethlisberger was not charged in the case in Milledgeville, Ga., in which he was accused by a 20-year-old college student of assaulting her in a nightclub bathroom. But he is expected to be suspended by the league, perhaps two to four games, for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

Steelers president Art Rooney II said in a press conference last Thursday that the Steelers will work with Goodell to determine the punishment and that no further discipline would be administered.

Rooney said Roethlisberger is prepared to accept the "consequences."

At the time of the press conference, the Steelers were unaware of the details of the alleged incident that were contained in a police report that was made public Friday.

Goodell's announcement would come a day before the start of the NFL draft -- a draft in which director of football operations Kevin Colbert has said the Steelers do not need a quarterback.

Meantime, Roethlisberger was on the field today for his second day of offseason workouts with his teammates. He did not speak with the media after practice.
What I find interesting is Goodell is going to announce the suspension tomorrow a day before the draft. A week ago Adam Schefter stated he thought the announcement would be after the draft, so as not to take away any press from the draft. With a 3 day draft this year there will be a record number of trades, & the chances Roethlisberger gets traded are growing to 50-50, maybe more now that the length of his suspension will be known. Food for thought........

Hmm...Ben Rapistraiduh? Kinda has a ring to it, like Seabass GHB Janikowski.

More speculation:

Trade not nixed

3 reasons a trade will happen

Talk of Roethlisberger trade

I predict a 4 game suspension, no trade, and Van going into labor.

Kinda hope that 20 year old in GA goes into labor in about 8 months and then Roethlisberger shows up on Jerry Springer for the DNA test. Positive result. Baby Momma comes out swinging and good ole Steve breaks it up. Ben grabs baby and spikes the little fucker like he just Elway Helicoptered into the endzone.

It could happen...

The Steelers will not trade Ben for less than fair value. Period. The Holmes deal was a whole other kettle of fish.

So before he gets traded for a second round pick, what is "fair value" to you? What do you think "fair value" is to the Rooney's? Call yer shot. I don't want to hear "A second and third round pick is more than fair value" later.

If you mean "fair value" as in "rapist for rapist," I don't think Lawrence Phillips is available.

Ben should have come right out at the start and claimed that he was a sex addict. I believe that in a lot of work situations you can’t be punished for an addiction if you seek treatment. I know of at least one instance where an employee showed up at work intoxicated, the employer took exception, and the employee claimed to be an alcoholic. Employee wound up going into treatment and kept his job.

That's absolutely true! That's exactly what he should've announced to Goodell within five minutes of entering dude's office. Better yet, he should've played the "I'm a victim!" card.

What a ridiculous fucking world we live in.

Read the comments. Most, including the Steeler fans, come down hard on the Big Raper.

You are familiar with the points system for rating draft picks? Bare minimum they should get picks worth a top ten pick this year, a lower round this year and a first rounder next year. Or course if other players are involved, it becomes a little harder to quantify actual value, but there has to be a top 10 draft pick involved or the Steelers got hosed.

I played 9 holes today and dined on the best steak I've ever had for lunch. And you think I am pained by what a bunch of mouth breathing mongoloids have to say in the Washington Post?

Per Rotoworld:
Apr. 21 - 3:30 pm et
According to NFL Network's Jason La Canfora, the Raiders are in contact with the Steelers about a trade for Ben Roethlisberger.
La Canfora says Oakland "might be (the) only real option" for Pittsburgh if the Steelers are truly prepared to wash their hands of the 28-year-old QB. The Raiders, smartly (for once), appear to have realized that JaMarcus Russell is a bust, and very arguably the biggest in NFL history. The Steelers might ask for Nnamdi Asomugha in addition to Oakland's No. 8 overall pick.

I'll say this, assuming he can get a handle on his drinking/sexual assault problem; he is more of a sure thing than any draft pick. Arguably he's right behind Manning & Brady in ability and is definitely a top 5 QB. If the Raiduhs do trade for him, they'll be contenders for the AFC WEST....at minimum.

If I am the Rams and I really want to win, I'd trade the #1 pick in a heartbeat. Bradford has proven nothing, and as we all know, projected 1st rd players are way over hyped. Most are average at best.

Stirring the pot.......

My score, as well as my after shot comments, is unprintable. Then agin, it was the first time out all year. Also, I was in Atlanta and it was my first time ever putting on Bermuda. I now have a healthy respect for the tricks these southern greens can play. I literally 3 jacked every green but one. And I 4 jacked three of those. But it was a beautiful course right next to the Chattahoochee and the company was absolutely excellent.
