The "Strasburg debut"? Is that another of your horrid little indie pop bands?

Sweet. I was going to catch one of his AAA starts here in Pawtucket, but the Nats went and fucked that up by pushing him back 1 day and he pitched in Syracuse instead

Re: Headed to the Strasburg debut
Looks like he's pretty much living up to the buildup.
So far, 6 ip, 4 hits, 2 runs on a HR, 11 SO, 0 BB

Re: Headed to the Strasburg debut
Final 7 IP, 14 SO, 0 BB
Not bad for a rookie.
You can bet he'll draw a crowd first time he pitches here at Petco Park.

Re: Headed to the Strasburg debut
Unreal night. Place was packed (and not with opposition fans) and people were fired up for each and every 2 strike count. Stras never had more than men on first and second all night. Was constantly hitting 98-99-100 all night. Kept fucking around with his breaking ball early when the Bucs could barely keep up with his heater, but he stayed with the heater later and it paid off. Having Pudge back is bigger than anyone can estimate and you gotta believe Capps is the happiest he is back.

Re: Headed to the Strasburg debut
Not really, choadchoker.
The beauty of the $5 duckets is that they only go on sale 2.5 hrs before the game, and the team tells you that you MUST enter the stadium immediately after buying tickets. Of course, this is to offset the cost of offering about 150 or so tickets at $5 every game, but it's not like the team escorts you into the stadium after you buy them. And if you live in say College Park or anywhere else than SW/SE DC, you're going into the stadium because you have nothing else to do, unless you want to hang out in the Bullpen Bar or walk back to Cantina Marina or the Hill bars to get hammered. So that's the beauty: live within walking distance? Never worry about a sellout if you can walk up and get tickets in time. Which is why I have been regularly hitting up the weekend dates instead of the weeknights as its a bit hard to get there in time after work.
Eat shit and get runover by some idiot on a bicycle.

Why don't you look it up yourself? All I know is the reason why they didn't call him up to start the season is because it would have made him eligible for free agency a year early.

Re: Headed to the Strasburg debut
He signed a 3 year, 15 million deal last year. However he won't be a FA then. I believe a team 'owns' a player for 6 years... eligible for arbitration after 3.
Caveat.
The reason they kept him in the minors for so long is... after the 2015 season Strasburg will only have accumulated 5.9 years of service, so the Nats own his rights through 2016.

Ah, makes sense. Was just wondering how long it would take for him to go to Boston or New York.

It's a good thing the kid doesn't have Dusty running the show.

They said that they would limit him to 100 innings at the major league level this season.Killian wrote:It's a good thing the kid doesn't have Dusty running the show.

We'll see if they stick to that when the sellouts start accumulating.
Re: Headed to the Strasburg debut
It would be great to see one of these phenoms actually see the end of their projected Hall of Fame careers instead of burning out quickly and become a footnote in the history of the game. It's a helluva nice way to start a career but they'll be smart and not over work him early in his career. The guy clearly has electric stuff...those guys don't fall out of trees but unfortunately a lot of these promising young arms don't always stand up to the test of time.

Right. And how long do you think that's going to last now? The Nats picked up another #1 draft who's also said to be the real deal. Do I really need to explain the law of supply and demand to you?The beauty of the $5 duckets is that they only go on sale 2.5 hrs before the game

Re: Headed to the Strasburg debut
I'm not too worried about it, shitstain. Stras will average about three home starts per month, if he stays healthy. The Nats average 13.5 games per month.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:Right. better players = better team = more wins = higher ticket demand

Re: Headed to the Strasburg debut
I'm sorry. Do you live here? How many Nationals games have you been to? You DO realize they're still 24th in attendance, right? You DO realize they're still four games under .500? Do you think they're gonna reach the top 10 in attendance overnight? Without a doubt, Stras will impact ticket sales this season and especially next season. But they aren't going to disappear overnight.
Just shut the fuck up already, tard. You don't have a clue. Stick to your one or two Cubs games a season.

Good point, but he won't be facing many tough batters in Cleveland.Toddowen wrote:So I figure his next start will be Sunday 1pm at Cleveland? When is he going to face the tough batters from the real league?
As for Strass.... wicked shit. Just hope his arm doesn't fall off before he's 25.

I don't have to. You yourself just got done saying it's officially a "baseball town." Or did you already forget that?Screw_Michigan wrote:I'm sorry. Do you live here?
I'm not talking about the present, you fucking idiot. I'm talking about the future. You know, the future of your "baseball town," just like you said. I'm not saying the place is going to start pulling sell outs in a matter of days, but I think your 5 dollar ducket days are numbered. You DO realize they're still 24th in attendance, right?
Yeah, it's a burden that I live in a town in which people actually give a fuck about sports beyond the NFL. I'll admit that.Stick to your one or two Cubs games a season.

Re: Headed to the Strasburg debut
That sucks he starts on Sunday...he'll miss pitching at the Copa; the Nats visit Detroit after they're in Cleveland. Kinda funny that those two games he throws...he's the only thing relevant about the matchup. He's such a huge draw already that it's the only reason anyone would pay money to watch a Nats-Tribe game on a Sunday or a Nats-Bucs games on a Tuesday.
Looking ahead, his third start could be next Saturday back at Nats Park against the Pale Hose on FOX Saturday Baseball. It's probably going to be the game shown in the upper Midwest...I'll get a chance to catch him on the tube.

Re: Headed to the Strasburg debut
Strasburg's line from today...
5-1/3 IP, 2 hits, 1 R (ER), HR allowed (Hafner), 8 K, 5 BB, 95 pitches
He left with a 2-1 lead and the Nats are up 9-1 in the 9th. It looks like he's on his way to his second win.
His ERA is at 2.19 and he's around 2 punchouts per inning...sick start albeit against to cellar-dwellers. That next start should be more of a test...the Sox have some boppers and surprisingly, they've struck out the fewest times in the Majors.

Re: Headed to the Strasburg debut
He's scheduled to face the Royals on June 23rd. While KC's record is dismal, they can swing the bats. Until just recently they were leading the AL in team batting average though I think they've slipped back to 4th now.
And if I'm not mistaken, he'll be going against Greinke who is now getting back to form. Just pitched a complete game with 12 K's against the Reds.
