Open time!

Open time!
As usualm, picks must be in by no later than 5PM PST, Monday, July 19th... unless of course you submit them later.
I'm going with...
Ben Crane
Dark horse -- Sir Nicky (Nicky has no chance to even make the cut, but he's from my "other hometown" and his mother was a friend of my parents, and they remember Little Nicky whacking golf balls around the neighborhood).
No objectivity, 100% pure homerism.
And Mucho -- when you invariably pick Phil, I'm just going to change it to Ben Crane, so come correct already.
And I might even go with the Dark Horse (the Unmentionable) as another dark horse. That'd shut some people up... or make them more vocal, one or the other.

Although I'd Shrubber my pants laughing (literally) if Daly came out of nowhere and took it (wouldn't be the first time, eh?).

Well OK Dins. How about that Louis Oosthuizen fellow. I like him to get hot in the first round.

Well, Mr. Golf-fan-come-lately...
You couldn't be any more wrong if you tried.
It's actually officially known as The Open Championship. The US Open is officially known as the US Open Championship.
They've played it since 18freaking60.
If the R&A says it's called The Open... it's called The Open.
And since they've been playing a championship of one form or another at St. Andrews (oldest course in the world) for over 400 freaking years (long before there was a USA), trying to usurp a name given by the Royal and Ancient is more than a little gauche.
Oh, and it is kinda by far the biggest tourney on Earth, a couple times over... there is that.

The Masters is by far the biggest tourney on Earth. Sorry to break it to you. Nobody fucking cares about the British Open.Dinsdale wrote: Oh, and it is kinda by far the biggest tourney on Earth, a couple times over... there is that.

Funny to see a dude with little interest in golf (and who doesn't seem to play) telling a bunch of golf junkies what's what.
The Open (since you can't even get the names of the Majors straight) is the big dog.

I'm just trolling you, idiot. I know the BO is the "big one," but I could care less about it.
And I DO have an interest in golf, I just don't have as big an interest as you. I'm still playing PGA European Tour for the Genesis on my computer.

I hate that game, but I hate the one I'm playing now more. It's called Why The Fuck Can't You Keep Your Elbow From Flying Out On Your Downswing. I seemed to have gotten rid of the game Where Oh Where Has My Coon Gone? which means once I can find a new owner for Why The Fuck Can't You Keep Your Elbow From Flying Out On Your Downswing, I should be in the 70s more often.Dinsdale wrote:Screw_Michigan wrote:I'm still playing PGA European Tour for the Genesis on my computer.

pretty good pick. he's won at TOC before. in the Dunhill Links, which plays 3 rounds in rotation at TOC, Carnoustie, and Kingsbarns. final round at TOC. big event on the Euro Tour.IndyFrisco wrote:Oh, just saw this thread. Going with Lee Westwood.
i had Ricky Barnes as my super-flyer pick in a pool i'm in. he's in the top 10 as of 10:09 AM MST. Oosterhuizen has given one back and Stenson is unconscious....it's on.

ditto
a couple of my golfing buds were expecting (ooster...ah fuck it, we'll just call him lou) lou to van de velde the last round....I told them there was no fucking way after watching him play for the first few days...dude was fucking rock solid
I expect him to now fade away (like so many have after winning a major) never to be heard from again....
get out, get out while there's still time
