Best deal I can ever remember paying for was a case of Scheafer for $6.99 at package stores in R.I. with no deposit. This was back when the cans were pull-tabs and Scheafer was still drinkable. It wasn't out of the ordinary to see pick-up trucks cruising down Atlantic Ave. in Misquamicut with the bed entirely full of ice and cans of Scheafer.

there was a packy in east hampton that had shaeffer long necks for 4.99/case the deposits. this was 81/82. this had to be around the period you're talking todd and sorry to say, but schaeffer was already the sukk then, even in bottles.

didn't stop me and my buddy jay from drinking wayyyyyyy to much of it anyway. we would usually but a 6 of michelob, which was what passed as good beer to us at the time. you slam about 3 or 4 mics to get primed, then guzzle the case of long necks as quickly as possible to minimize the time you actually had to taste them.

just thinking of that stuff triggers my gag reflex almost 30 years later.

it's 'aight, but, not close to as good as they make it out to be. kinda reminds me of rollingrock, which, if i'm not mistaken is another over rated PA brew. drinkable for sure, but not on the level of a decent micro.

haven't had a rock in a few years but, from what i remember it was very much like 'ling. the Y-ling might be a touch darker in color, but, taste wise very similar. If you blindfolded me and gave me a yuengling, i would have guessed RR.

true dat, but alot of them start out as micros, Fat Tire, Sierra Nevadas, even Sam Adams, but Rock and Yuengling were regional as opposed to Micros. Like Coors back in the day or PBR, Strohs etc..
