The World Golf rankings operate on a two year declining cycle. In other words, tournaments you won more recently are worth way more than tournaments you won last year. After two years they aren't counted any more.

The Ryder Cup points list is also done on a two year cycle, but the points don't decline over time and there isn't as much of a difference between quality of tournaments as with the World Golf Ranking's point valuation.
