The gubernatorial in Texas is heating up, although I just don't see Bill White overthrowing the incumbent Perry. Honestly, I can't stand either one of these candidates. White did a decent job as mayor of getting the corruption out of Houston and his response to Ike was great; however, he spent more than what Houston took in every year he was in office. His hot button issue is education; one which seems to not be getting the needed attention this election year because everyone else is fixated on the economy and jobs. White didn't impress me on HISD's education system here either, so his tactics to attack Perry on education could likely backfire.

The education is complete shit here. It's on the parents, but that is because a lot of parents don't have time to focus on their kids because they are single and working two jobs. These parents are in survival mode and are just trying to put a roof over their kids' heads. Having any time at all to care about what their kids are doing in school is just a bonus. I believe I read somewhere that 75% of all african-american births are out of wedlock here in the state of Texas. That is rediculous. The other side to this coin is all the illegals Texas is spending time, resources, and tax dollars on to educate. If we cut the number of illegals in half, then we probably wouldn't have a $24 billion shortfall within the state AND we'd have enough money to educate children who are here legally.

Perry's not helping himself by attacking Washington constantly which could mean no federal funding for education. Yep, that is nearly a billion dollars the state can't get their mittens on because Perry hates Washington so damn much. I really can't blame the guy for sticking to his guns, but sheesh, learn how to throttle back on that when it comes to getting money.

We need to secure our borders and solve the education shortfalls in this state. I'm not sure White or Perry can do either one of these things which means I may vote for noone.
