The old guy short armed that swing. Tells me he has problems releasing the club head through impact. Probably a slicer.

I haven't actually tried it but I'd imagine that it's pretty hard to run full speed with a camera while shooting some guy behind you.

This one is nice.

Wow, missed this before. That's not "trimming," it's "falling."KC Scott wrote:Tree Trimming Fail
Best not screw up the vernacular in the U&L -- punishable offense.
So many failures, it's hard to begin. Tying off the ladder would have been a good start. Taking the top section in a smaller piece would have been wise. And notching it instead of just slicing straight through would have avoided the widowmaker that is seen in the video -- a widowmaker being a tree that hangs up on a knot or whatever, and comes straight down (just like in the vid), and often twists while it's dropping. Probably would have used a rope to apply tension away from the house (after proper notching).
Shiiiiit -- 'round these parts, 1st graders can do a better falling job than that.
Although a couplefew months ago, the gay guys up the street dropped a walnut right across the power lines (even though the power company will cut them back from the lines for free)... although said gay guys will never be mistaken for cast members of Ax Men any time soon.

After further video review, Goober's ruling on the vid stands.
Still doesn't make up for the other monumental failures.
Without notching, the rope doesn't do much.
They got widowmakered.

So he would have died instead of just falling? Yea that's really smart.Dinsdale wrote: Tying off the ladder would have been a good start.
It hit the ground and bounced back you stupid fool. And notching it instead of just slicing straight through would have avoided the widowmaker that is seen in the video -- a widowmaker being a tree that hangs up on a knot or whatever, and comes straight down (just like in the vid), and often twists while it's dropping.
That tree needed to be climbed or cut from a bucket. Period.Probably would have used a rope to apply tension away from the house (after proper notching).
And better than you would have done if your suggestions in your post are any indication of your tree felling abilities.Shiiiiit -- 'round these parts, 1st graders can do a better falling job than that.
Re: Today's Video Selection
They notched it, too, or at least didn't cut all the way through.Dinsdale wrote:Without notching, the rope doesn't do much.

Re: Today's Video Selection
As best i can tell, they did not notch it. Had they notched it, it may have fallen clear, but there is a good chance it still would have come back on them. They needed to cut much higher, pieces no more than a few feet long or drop the whole fukking thing.
BTW, I believe the the proper verb in this case is top. Trimming is what you do to smaller branches, falling is what you do to entire trees. Topping is what is being done here....poorly.

Watch the vid again -- one can clearly see from the bottom of the cut end that there definitely isn't a notch. Saw is long gone from the cut by the time the tree starts falling, if you do it right. Theirs isn't.
Bad notching -- hence the widowmaker.
Seriously tards -- I'm from Fucking Oregon. I worked in the woods cutting timber before I got out of high school (couldn't get away from it fast enough -- shitty, shitty work).
WATCH THE FUCKING VIDEO.
The "accident" (although they asked for it) is caused by the last chunk of wood haning up and flipping the cut section back towards the remaining trunk.
I know it's a new concept for most of you (how bad does it suck to have Derron laughing at you?), but this is known as a "widowmaker." If a tree is sufficiently notched, widowmakers are unlikely, although anything can happen. Matter of fact, the cut section will generally fall a foot or two from the tree, not straight back down on it, and not top-first.
This was their second-biggest mistake, after trying to take a ~12 section from a ladder, in proximity to structures.
It's also a damn fine idea to notch and cut in a way that uses the trunk to shield the guy sawing.
But again -- proper notching keeps that last bit of trunk from hanging up, and the tree falls where you aim it (or close to).
Fuck, if you're a hack (which these guys clearly are), use freaking wedges.

Again... no.
A proper notch would have eliminated the snag that caused the comebacker.

And you still don't seem to know shit about felling a tree.Dinsdale wrote:Seriously tards -- I'm from Fucking Oregon. I worked in the woods cutting timber before I got out of high school (couldn't get away from it fast enough -- shitty, shitty work).
It didn't snag you stupid fuck and the reason it was a comebacker was because it bounced back due to the fact that they cut it in the wrong place up the trunk. Sure a notch would have helped but only an idiot would call that a snag.Dinsdale wrote: A proper notch would have eliminated the snag that caused the comebacker.

Re: Today's Video Selection
I would agree with my Oregon fellas that always call me bad names that the idiot in the video didn't know what he was doing. I started "felling trees" since 8th grade and have a few scars from one accident to tell you I've learned a bit.
The CA State Parks hired a bunch of us to cut down trees, split, and stack at camp grounds for the Los Angelinos (City Folk that wanted a "real outdoor" experience) for many years. Easy money; we've had the right equipment, splitters, supplies, refreshments, and many types of Stihl chainsaws.
The idiot in the video link deserved what he got. Amazing to see such stupidity.

can't disagree with that.Moving Sale wrote:...they cut it in the wrong place up the trunk.
Not a logger, but simple logic and physics would dictate that the section of tree you are trying to cut be somewhat less in length than the section allowed to stand.... at least while standing on a ladder leaned up against said tree. Dude needed a bigger ladder, or he needed to climb up a few more rungs.

The light blue beret looked United Nations like.

I guess they paint their shit white because they're predominantly "peace keeping". Show of force. Sort of the Like Teddy's fleet back in the day.
