I hung out with a bunch of Wisky grad friends today and they were whooping it up all fucking afternoon. Made me sick, but I knew they needed the style points.
Three 11-1 teams in the Big 11 and only one going to a BCS bowl. Meatgrinder, indeed.

2 will go to the BCS. Why did Wisconsin need style points?Screw_Michigan wrote:I hung out with a bunch of Wisky grad friends today and they were whooping it up all fucking afternoon. Made me sick, but I knew they needed the style points.

With Iowa certain to fall out of the rankings after the Minny loss, does tOSU have a win over a team currently ranked. Does Gordon, er, E Gordon Gee have the answer?

In fairness to Ohio State, it's not their fault that Miami and Iowa just quit on the season after playing them. They beat a solid Iowa team. Iowa gave great effort in that game, and Miami didn't exactly just lay down for them like they have numerous other teams this year. I would still count those as quality wins given the fact that those 2 teams are actually much better than their records indicate.Q, West Coast Style wrote:With Iowa certain to fall out of the rankings after the Minny loss, does tOSU have a win over a team currently ranked. Ohio State is a good team. They returned a lot of starters from a team that won the Rose Bowl last year. I suppose we will find out just how good they are in a little over a month.

Miami is not better than their record indicates. They were over hyped undeservingly before the season began. Anyone who watched them play last season knew full well that Jacory Harris was should not have even remotely been considered a pre-season Heisman candidate, their receivers were not anywhere close to being one of the top five corps in the country just because of Hankerson, and outside of Bailey and that DT their defense did not have as many true premier athletes as recruiting services would have led you to believe.TheJON wrote:In fairness to Ohio State, it's not their fault that Miami and Iowa just quit on the season after playing them. The "better than their record indicates" thing is the most overly-used bullshit cliche in all of sports. I've heard so many people say that about .500 MSU teams, and these are the same people who overlook all the intangibles that factor into the concept of a "good" football team. Yeah, there's a little more to it than just a few skill position players.
Rather, it's more likely you're exactly as your record indicates with few, few exceptions, but not for a team that lost 5 games.

I would agree they were overhyped. But they do have quite a bit of talent. One thing a good coach would have done a better job is developing that talent, however. But still, come on......the ACC is HORRIBLE. They should have done better than their record given their conference. They regressed from last year. I disagree on Jacory Harris too. He has big play ability, but he just has not learned how to cut down on the mistakes. I think a lot of people, myself included, expected a more mature QB. That just didn't happen.Miami is not better than their record indicates. They were over hyped undeservingly before the season began. That said, Ohio State still did play a better Miami team than what South Florida faced today. No, it isn't a Top 10 Miami team, but they were still pretty solid.

I agree with your Bill Parcells comment here. You are what your record says.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:The "better than their record indicates" thing is the most overly-used bullshit cliche in all of sports. That said, some teams are CAPABLE of performing at a higher level than what their record is, and when they do, if you beat them, you actually beat a team better than what their record was. On the whole, yeah......Miami sucked big time.
Look at Iowa. While you might say "you're a 7-5 team", I would say on any given day, Iowa could beat just about any team in the country. They could, that's no joke. So I think you can still have a nice win against an Iowa team that sucks donkey balls.......if that makes any sense!
Re: Props to Sparty, Wisky, and tOSU
I usually don't enjoy watching the rest of the conference but this has actually been a very entertaining season for the Big Ten. Adding Nebraska should only makes things even more interesting. What's funny is that out of Michigan State, Ohio State and Wisconsin sharing the conference title...I'm probably more bitter towards Wisconsin because of the prick that coaches their team. Bielema may be the least likeable of all the coaches in this conference and I've not liked the guy prior to this year's crap with running up the score. Guess the guy got what he wanted though...he's going to Pasadena.

Spot on Shoalz...
Bilema is a huge DICK BAG...and if it weren't for me wanting the Big 10 to go undefeated in bowl games I would be wearing a TCU/Stanford or whatever against that DICK BAG...to run it up against 2 of the more middling programs IU and NW...although with Persa I think NW is closer...Bilema will get his comeuppance...he is what he is a dick bag and most of their fans are dick bags (present company of Goobs excluded)
