Iowa the new Thug U?
We won't get the publicity that Miami had back in the 80's but I would venture to guess over the last 8 or 9 years, Iowa has actually matched what The U did in terms of thuggery off the field. And, quite frankly, it sickens me. That's my alma mater.....we have officially become Thug U 2010. What a fucking disgrace. We are no better than Florida State, The U, Tennessee, and other notable Fulmer Cup regulars.
Turns out our 2006 recruiting class might have actually been the best WR class that year in the country. Also, the biggest group of thugs....
-Derrell Johnson-Koulianos......Iowa's all-time leading receiver. Busted for coke (and other drugs) possession and selling.
-James Cleveland.......arrested on felony drug charges, kicked out of school following his freshman year. Ended up being one of the best receivers in University of Houston history.
-Dominique Douglas......top freshman WR in the Big-10 in 2006. Suspended in 2007 for credit card theft. Kicked off the team for good before the 2008 season after stealing DVD's from Wal-Mart. Thugs on the street know him as "DOMOCBI-Doug". Whatever the fuck that means!
-Anthony Bowman......never did much at Iowa because he never got much of a chance to play. Promising kick returner or 3rd/4th receiver. Arrested, and is about to serve trial (I believe) for rape along with teamate Cedric Everson. Was kicked off the team following the 2007 season due to the rape case.
So we have a rapist, a coke dealer/addict, another drug dealer, and a credit card theft.......at one position........in the same class. Holy buckets!
The 2006 class also featured former backup quarterback, Arvell Nelson, who was Douglas' partner in crime in their credit card theft scheme.
That's 5 players from 1 recruiting class involved in MAJOR crimes.
The 2007 class featured 2 others involved in the rape scandal- Cedric Everson and Abe Satterfield (another WR). And potentially a 3rd......Jevon Pugh. I guess we never found out, but he was rumored to be a part of that. All we know is he was kicked out of school.
This doesn't include the 25-30 drinking related incidents over the past 3-4 years. Our 2001 team had big issues when about 13 players were arrested in the offseason- mostly alcohol related.
Also, Adrian Clayborn is about to stand trial for his assault of an Iowa City cab driver. He won't fact any jail time, and the cabbie had it coming- he called him the n-word. But Clayborn was drunk and acting like a dipshit, so he should at least get fined and face some community service- which I'm sure he will.
Hell, the coach's son has 2 drinking related tickets/arrests since coming to Iowa. James Ferentz, our starting center, had 2 drinking incidents in his first 2 years here.
I am willing to look beyond the alcohol related incidents because I'm not about to rip on college kids for doing the same stuff I did when I was at school there (though I was lucky enough to never get busted by the Cops). But the punishments our coaching staff hands down for these incidents just isn't good enough and maybe if they would start dropping the hammer, they wouldn't be getting busted as much. I don't hold the coaches responsible for holding the players hands on a Friday night and making sure they aren't out causing trouble downtown, but come on.........when is this garbage going to end?
A couple of years ago I called out the coaches for their handling of the rape incident. A lot of people are wanting to know how Ferentz didn't know DJK was a junkie. They had a strained relationship DJK's entire career. Ferentz would never let him speak to the media and he was always in Kirks doghouse. I gotta say.......your star WR is a junkie and you don't even know it? Some college kid at a tailgate last year told me DJK was a coke addict. Thought the guy was full of shit, and was rather irritated by the comment. Turns out dude was right. It sounds like there's actually quite a few people on campus that knew about his drug usage/dealing. If that is true........how do the coaches NOT know?
I'm not trying to make this into another bash Kirk Ferentz post, but I would like some answers about what the fuck is going on with this program- and I'm not talking about anything that has to do with on the field performance. Why was Dominique Douglas not kicked off the team BEFORE the 2007 season after he ADMITTED to stealing and using a credit card? Instead, he was forced to redshirt and was given a zero tolerance policy- which he failed. Clayborn gets drunk, punches a cabbie in the face. His punishment? Nothing. Not even 1 game. So many players have gotten arrested without facing known punishments. Yes, I'm aware there are internal punishments that probably go on, but if you don't start taking away things like playing in games.......what sort of example are you setting?
And I'm still not sure what involvement the coaching staff had with the rape scandal cover-up a couple years ago. Don't get me wrong, I don't think Ferentz INTENTIONALLY did anything wrong. But their handling of it was very poor. Ferentz allegedly had DJK move into the dorm room of the players that were accused of rape. That was where the evidence allegedly was. Something about that just doesn't seem right. What I do know is Ferentz tried to keep any of it to go public- which is understandable. It's his reputation. If one of his players are accused of rape, regardless of what he does, he's going to take the heat. But the University and the football coaching staff did not do a good enough job of looking out for the victim before the football program.
I have no doubts that Kirk Ferentz is a man of integrity and truly is one of the few coaches in the country that have class. But you have to sometimes wonder if he's too easy on his players and if he even knows what goes on outside of the locker room. Hell, back when his other son (Brian) was our starting center, he was living in Section 8 housing. Kirk claimed to not even know his own son was living in government housing. How can he not know? A coach making $3 million has a son getting government housing assistance? I don't know what is worse- the fact that Brian was living in government housing or that his dad didn't know about it.
I'm not calling for a firing of Ferentz. But I will say this........the next time someone gets busted for coke, rape, or anything other that is major........Ferentz needs to be fired on the spot. And I don't give 2 shits how much it will cost to buy his contract out. I'm getting sick and fucking tired of our football program causing my university embarrassment due to off the field issues. This is the last straw. I will no longer support the coach the next time one of his players gives my school a bad name like this. The next player that gets a public intox- suspend him for 2 games. Enough is enough. If someone steals a fucking credit card- they're gone. I don't give a shit if it's your best player. ZERO tolerance from here on out, and if Kirk won't live by that rule..........get him the fuck out.
I went off on Bobby Bowden about 5-6 years ago for these exact same reasons. I questioned his lack of institutional control. It's only fair........
No wonder we have no playmakers, Mace.........they're all in jail!

DJK is done, so what the fuck is your problem? Was there anything in any of these players' history prior to recruitment to indicate they were drug dealers/rapists? If not, how could Ferentz reasonably predict the behavior? What should be the punishment for players engaged in online gambling?

God forbid any Iowa players purchase a stolen laptop.

Re: Iowa the new Thug U?
M Club,
You don't think that was a hell of a WR class (on the field)? 2 of those guys combined for probably 6,000 career yards. Then you throw in Dominique Douglas, who had over 800 yards receiving as a true freshman but never played again. Without looking, I'm pretty confident no one could beat that.
Mace,
Yeah, DJK is gone. I just think Kirk has shown to be oblivious to way too much that's going on off the field. His own son lived in government housing and he was unaware. How do you not know your own son, who is your starting center, was living in Section 8 housing with other football players?
Tell me why Clayborn and so many other players that got arrested never served a suspension? Why was Dominque Douglas not kicked off the team after the credit card theft, but instead didn't get the boot until his 2nd theft offense?
Ferentz and Barta's handling of the rape saga a few years ago was really bad. I still don't know why they had DJK go move into the room where allegedly the evidence was. I don't think we will ever know.
Did DJK have problems going into college? I'm not sure about run-ins with the law, but Ohio State backed off recruiting him because of grade and character issues. I remember Herbstreit saying that DJK was the best high school player in Ohio that year and that he would be a start at Iowa "if he stays out of trouble". I don't recall he elaborated on that, but there were rumors flying around about him back then.
As for now, we don't know all of what is true, but from the sounds of things- a lot of people around Iowa City knew he was a junkie. I'm finding it hard to believe nobody on the football team (or the entire team) knew he was. And if they did, how could Ferentz not know? You don't know your best player is a junkie?? Or is this why he never let DJK speak to the media?
What I'm really worried about is that there are other football players involved? I'm hopeful it is an isolated incident, but did DJK never hang out with his teamates? I have heard, though who knows if it's true, that DJK was rarely seen with other football players at the Ped Mall. Again, it's the internet, so who knows what rumors are true. If it is, that could be a good thing or it could be a bad thing- it could be good because it means it's less likely other football players were involved. It could be a bad sign because maybe the reason other players didn't hang out with him was because he was a junkie. I'm just speculating, of course, but who knows...
You aren't disturbed by this crap, Mace? You aren't getting irritated by all of the arrests? And even worse, we are seeing quite a few players getting serious crimes. You don't hold the coaching staff accountable in any way, shape or form, nor do you think their handling of suspensions over the years has been poor?
We have become Thug U. I don't care who is at fault for that- it needs to change immediately.

Re: Iowa the new Thug U?
I was pretty amazed at how sky high Iowa was to play MSU. I guess this explains it.
Re: Iowa the new Thug U?
I'm pissed that DJK is so fucking stupid but, other than that, no, I'm not concerned about it. The only person responsible is DJK and he will be held accountable. The coaching staff can't control the behavior of the players off the field....it can't be done. These are college kids who are going to drink some beer and raise a little hell once in awhile, JON, no different than anyone else that age. When they're arrested for a Pub Intox, you have to deal with it as a coach, but it's hardly the crime of the century. As for the rapists.....they were kicked off the team and left town and will be held accountable by the courts.TheJON wrote:You aren't disturbed by this crap, Mace? As for the coaches: If they're recruiting kids out of detention centers then, yes, they should be held more accountable. If there's nothing to throw up red flags in the recruiting process, then how are they supposed to know?
We're not even close to being Thug U. Relax and go play a few hands of poker. We have become Thug U. I don't care who is at fault for that- it needs to change immediately.

Re: Iowa the new Thug U?
Sounds like shits about to pop-off! R.I.P. Iowa football???
This was posted by DJK on his Facebook page on September 7. Nice bottle of Rx........with no prescription label! Fucking idiot. Why would you post that on a public website?
Even worse is that laptop was confiscated by the popos and the idiot has a spreadsheet of people that owe him money. Rumor has it that there is probably going to be some football players on that spreadsheet and that there's gonna be some shit coming out related to this about other football players.
I am not accusing anyone of wrongdoing beyond DJK (since he's admitted his drug use) because who knows what is true, but damn..........it doesn't sound good.
Gotta love this comment on that photo from a few days ago:
Players aren't giving effort in practice anymore and lost their will to win. Don't cry about me making claims I know nothing about, Mace.........that's straight from Adrian Clayborn. Don't shoot the messenger.
That said, Iowa will be 10-2 next year because we always are under these circumstances. The "us against the world" mentality is the ONLY time Kirk Ferentz can win football games- and NOBODY does it better than him in this situation. I'm not sure we've ever not won at least 9 games under Ferentz when our preseason expectations were in the Top 25-40 range- which is where it will be in 2011.

You almost have to wonder if Ferentz has completely lost control of this program- if he ever had control (i mean, we've had arrest issues for years and his own son lived in Section 8 housing without him knowing, so...). You have the epic failure that was the 2010 football season- due in large part to a failed coaching job by his coordinators. The dozens of arrests (many of the major crimes) over the past few years. Brandon Wegher and Jewel Hampton are officially transferring- our 2 best RB's still with the program. A solid recruit decommitted after the Ohio State game because he was turned off of a fight that broke out in the locker room (who knew this group of losers had any fight in them anyways?).Yoshi Joshua Beckermann Hey you know it's illegal to have a prescription bottle without a label on it, might wanna take it down before you get arrested... oh wait. Too late.

I gotta agree with the majority around here (not that I ever disagreed)....you're one clueless dumbfuck.
College student use drugs? I'm shocked.
Sin,
The 70's
Gotta link to post about Hampton transferring?
And, no, Ferentz hasn't lost control of anything.....including his temper when answering stupid questions from reporters almost as stupid as you.

Re: Iowa the new Thug U?
So you didn't see anything at all wrong with the following?:
-Ferentz and Barta's handling of the rape
-Ferentz either not knowing or not caring that his son was living in Section 8 housing
-Dominique Douglas not being kicked off the Iowa football team following his credit card theft incident
-Adrian Clayborn not facing ANY suspension after his assault of a cabbie
None of that bothers you at all or makes you wonder about how much Ferentz really cares about what goes on off the field???
Why are players not giving effort in practice? Again, this isn't my assumption- Clayborn said it.
I tell you what........if Ferentz starts recruiting less thugs and loses more games, I will spend less time criticizing him than I do now. Winning isn't THIS important. We don't have to become Miami/FSU/Nebraska under Osborne. I'd rather go 7-5 or 6-6 every year if it meant I didn't have to watch a bunch of hoodlems play. While you may not be getting tired of all the arrests.........I am.

I apologize, I was incorrect on this. It was bullshit internet rumors. Does it really matter? What are the chances of him ever being healthy anyways? Wegher is the killer. I wish I knew why he was being such a bitch.Mace wrote:Where's the link about Hampton transferring, you fucking windbag?

That seems to be where you get most of your information. :roll:TheJON wrote:I apologize, I was incorrect on this. It was bullshit internet rumors.Mace wrote:Where's the link about Hampton transferring, you fucking windbag?
If it didn't matter, then why list his rumor reported "official transfer" as one of the problems you, or the other idiots posting on the Iowa boards reported? I don't know why Wegher didn't play this year, or why he's leaving...and I don't really care. Running backs of his calibur are easily replaced.Does it really matter? Re: Iowa the new Thug U?
I don't like how the University handles these situations...period. The Campus Police should turn the investigation over to the ICPD or call the DCI. University involvement only leads to folks like you insinuating a cover up.TheJON wrote:So you didn't see anything at all wrong with the following?:

He lived in the housing, as did other college students, and was totally legal at the time. It was cheaper housing than trying to rent a house/apartment in Iowa City.-Ferentz either not knowing or not caring that his son was living in Section 8 housing
He was suspended indefinitely after the arrest and was subsequently kicked off the team after the dumbass was arrested for shoplifting.-Dominique Douglas not being kicked off the Iowa football team following his credit card theft incident
Big mouth racist cabbies need to be slapped around once in awhile. Cabbie(s) must have learned the lesson since there have not been any other such incidents.-Adrian Clayborn not facing ANY suspension after his assault of a cabbie
I don't question that AT ALL. Ferentz cares about his players.None of that bothers you at all or makes you wonder about how much Ferentz really cares about what goes on off the field???
That's not exactly what Clayborn said but, point taken. You might also want to consider that kids say some things immediately after a tough loss that they don't really mean. Why are players not giving effort in practice? Again, this isn't my assumption- Clayborn said it.
Bullshit. You'll be the first one in here bitching about Ken O'Keefe or the 2 minute offense....or any other complaints you read on Iowa message boards. :roll:I tell you what........if Ferentz starts recruiting less thugs and loses more games, I will spend less time criticizing him than I do now. Winning isn't THIS important. We don't have to become Miami/FSU/Nebraska under Osborne. I'd rather go 7-5 or 6-6 every year if it meant I didn't have to watch a bunch of hoodlems play. While you may not be getting tired of all the arrests.........I am.

Re: Iowa the new Thug U?
Good lord. This is your answer? Really? Wow. That's all I have to say. You're going with the "it was cheaper" answer for the son of a millionaire? My goodness. He lived in the housing, as did other college students, and was totally legal at the time. It was cheaper housing than trying to rent a house/apartment in Iowa City.
He didn't get kicked off for an entire year after he stole the credit card. We didn't kick him off until his 2nd incident. What a shock, a kid gets a 2nd chance after he shouldn't have and he fucks it up. Kinda like Pierre and Jason Berryman. He shouldn't have had a 2nd chance for what he did. That's the point. He was suspended indefinitely after the arrest and was subsequently kicked off the team after the dumbass was arrested for shoplifting.
The cabbie deserved to be punched, but Clayborn was drunk out of his mind acting like a fool. I'm not condoning racist statements, but they were made because of how Clayborn was acting. So both parties were in the wrong here.Big mouth racist cabbies need to be slapped around once in awhile. Cabbie(s) must have learned the lesson since there have not been any other such incidents.
I didn't say he doesn't care about his players. I know he does. But I question if he's doing a good enough job paying attention to what is going on off the field. It's not that he doesn't care about them, but could he be doing a better job of knowing what is going on? Maybe. I'm not saying he should be following them to the Ped Mall on Friday nights, but word gets around campus or the team pretty fast when shits going on, and he should have more open ears than he does.I don't question that AT ALL. Ferentz cares about his players.
Nope, not true at all. In fact, I spend maybe 10 minutes a month reading the Iowa boards. I have an IP ban from Jon Miller's board for trolling, and Hawkeyereport is a cesspool.Bullshit. You'll be the first one in here bitching about Ken O'Keefe or the 2 minute offense....or any other complaints you read on Iowa message boards.
Ferentz can do no wrong in your mind. If Kirk was convicted of murder and it was filmed on live television, you would claim he was innocent. You're also the only person alive that doesn't think Ken O'Keefe isn't a horrible coach when all evidence suggests otherwise. What job within the Iowa athletic department do you hold? Mr. Barta......is that you? If so, could you tell me how the new basketball practice facility is coming???
Re: Iowa the new Thug U?
Every time I think you can't reach another level of stupidity, you surprise me and manage to sink even lower on the stupid meter. Props to you.
KF's son lived in some low rent housing, along with a number of other students who were living in the same building. KF's income had nothing to do with it, idiot. Would he have had to live in low rent government housing? Of course not, but he did qualify based on his income, as did the other students living there. The rules have been changed so that students are no longer eligible to reside in these housing units. It's not a big deal, and it never was a big deal...except to morons like you.
Douglass was suspended from the team indefinitely after his arrest, pending disposition of the case. Nothing wrong with that, imo, as Ferentz elected to make a decision regarding Douglass' fate after the court decided his guilt/innocence. That seems totally appropriate to me, but apparently not to an idiot like you. Go figure. During the interim, Douglass was kicked off the team after he was arrested and convicted for shoplifting CDs from Walmart. Case closed, and only a whimpering, whiny cunt like you would drag this up as a case of mismanagement by Ferentz. Again, go figure.
Given the facts of what happened in the Clayborn incident, a Judge agreed to reduce the assault charge down to an even lesser misdemeanor and was sentenced by the court. Clayborn was probably drunk, had the good sense to call a cab, and punched a cabbie who was yelling racist remarks at him. I didn't witness this incident, so I don't know exactly what happened, but apparently you did.....or you were getting your information from the internet or Iowa City rumor mill which, as we all know, is full of accurate information.

So Ferentz should hire a full time coach/detective to follow up on all of the internet rumors about his players? Sure, that makes perfect sense.....errr....jonsense. I'd prefer he handle the situations as they come up. They already do PLENTY in the way of preventative measures trying to educate all of the players on appropriate and inappropriate behavior. Unfortunately, some players are too fucking stupid to listen and make the necessary changes. I spent 34 years of my life as a probation/parole officer and there were occasions when some family members wanted to blame me for their son/daughter's behavior that got them sent to prison. After all, I was their PO, so why didn't I make them stop using drugs, stealing, beating up their girlfriend, etc.? People like you are always looking to find blame with, and point fingers at, someone who is in no way responsible for the negative behavior. DJK and Douglass are responsible for their own behavior and have to suffer the consequences, which they have and will.I didn't say he doesn't care about his players. I know he does. I'm sorry, I just started re-reading this thread and this is fucking priceless. This is a perfect illustration of JON's myopia or lack of research when just throwing out an opinion.TheJON wrote:We won't get the publicity that Miami had back in the 80's but I would venture to guess over the last 8 or 9 years, Iowa has actually matched what The U did in terms of thuggery off the field.
Read up on what those Miami teams did and your Iowa team will look like boy scouts in comparison. Hell, this probably doesn't even match what Florida has going on now.

1- This is a message board and I am not paid for my takes.
2- They would tell me that I'm going to make a shit ton of money in the business given the reaction I get to my posts.
And they thought I was intelligent enough to give me some pretty decent grades and good references.

Re: Iowa the new Thug U?
Okay, maybe comparing it to The U is a tad bit too far. But it's not as far off as you might think. We've had rapes, drug deals, credit card theft, DUI's galore, and dozens of other alcohol related incidents.Killian wrote:I'm sorry, I just started re-reading this thread and this is fucking priceless. Hell, we had a 3 player rape go down. Pretty embarrassing what has been going on off the field at Iowa since about 2001. Our all-time leading receiver is a Coke addict and our coaches never knew (allegedly)!
You guys take my assumptions way too literally. It's a message board, and is it really that big of a deal if I slightly exaggerate something? You get my point, don't you? If I'm a few numbers off because I don't feel like spending time researching something for a message board, is it really the end of the world? My point is Iowa has a serious off the field problem and it is unacceptable. I don't care if it does or does not compare to The U of the 80's.......I'm getting tired of it.

Suspended "indefinitely"!!
So was Pierre!
"Yo Coach Ferentz, dis what I do wit my time while I is suspended indefitely! I beez gettin pizzzzaaaaiiidd!"
Nice "life's a hustle" shirt, Anthony......
Quit defending the coach.......
He should have been kicked off the team. There was enough evidence, plus him ADMITTING he stole the card, to suggest he should have been gone. He was suspended for the year, with the intention of bringing him back in 2008. Then the idiot went out and stole some DVD's from Wal-Mart, so Kirk FINALLY booted him. He was a thug. He should have been gone right after he got busted for credit card theft, just like Pierre should have been gone after he raped that womens basketball player. He kept him around because he was a star receiver. If you aren't bright enough to realize that, then I hope your son gets more out of his University of Iowa education than you did.

"Slightly exaggerate something"??? Or maybe grossly exaggerate to the point of being ridiculous. You guys take my assumptions way too literally. It's a message board, and is it really that big of a deal if I slightly exaggerate something? You get my point, don't you? Iowa does not have a "serious off the field problem", dumbass, and the school in no way compares to the problems at Miami. You're a fucking idiot. Btw, you ignorant cunt, DJK being arrested for possession of drugs does not necessarily make him an "addict". Tell me you knew. Of course you could be right, as you are in denial about having a gambling addiction.
You're living in fantasy land if you think that you can recruit 85 young men to play football and not have a few bad apples. Ferentz takes care of the problems once they've been arrested and convicted. The rapists are no longer in school at Iowa and are going to trial (if they haven't already), Douglass was kicked off the team (maybe not as quickly as you would have liked but, unlike you, Ferentz doesn't try to be judge and jury), and any alcohol arrests (and there weren't "dozens" btw, were handled by the coaching staff). Find something else to whine about, you ignorant dripping cunt, and pardon me while I go puke for wasting the time to respond to your idiocy.
At least you've outed yourself as a troll although, the pure idiocy of your posts oftentimes makes it difficult to distinguish when you're actually trolling for a response. Props to you for clouding up the line between troll and idiot.

A few??? A few?????????????? The understatement of the decade.........You're living in fantasy land if you think that you can recruit 85 young men to play football and not have a few bad apples.
Another reason for this smilie......DJK being arrested for possession of drugs does not necessarily make him an "addict". Tell me you knew.
Yep, he just started a couple weeks ago. He was so depressed of the outcome of our season that he decided to start using cocaine. Obviously. It's pretty obvious he has been using for a while now. And, by the way, is there such thing as a recreational cocaine user? That shit is pretty addictive from what I hear. Once you start, you get hooked according to junkies I have talked to. Go ask Doc Gooden.......25 years later and he still can't stop. Begged the judge to lock him up because he knew he couldn't quit.
He's allegedly got a laptop with names of people that owe him money for drugs dating back to last year. The cops took his laptop. You're aware of this, right? He admitted to using the day before he got busted.
Admitting you stole the credit card is not good enough? I didn't realize I forced Dominique to admit to stealing the credit card. I played judge and jury AFTER he admitted to it. Kirk still didn't boot him. You are aware of this, correct?Douglass was kicked off the team (maybe not as quickly as you would have liked but, unlike you, Ferentz doesn't try to be judge and jury)
Now have a pleasant evening Coach O'Keefe.

Obvious to who, Columbo? You? Probably true but you have no fucking idea. You're just jumping to conclusions with no real evidence.....as usual, and overreacting.Obviously. It's pretty obvious he has been using for a while now.
Duh. Yes, dumbfuck, cocaine is a recreational drug. And, by the way, is there such thing as a recreational cocaine user?
Yes, cocaine is addictive. That shit is pretty addictive from what I hear.
I've been retired for nearly a year but, according to the folks who conducted my last training session on drug use, there's about a 15% chance of becoming addicted to cocaine if you've used it for 10 years. About a 5% chance if you've used it for the past two years. Cocaine is psychologically addicting, not physically addicting like heroin and alcohol. Once addicted, it's very difficult to kick the habit. My probation/parole caseload was only about 150-180 people for 34 years, so, yeah, I'm sure you've talked to more junkies than me. :roll:Once you start, you get hooked according to junkies I have talked to.
And according to the reports I've read, the laptop belonged to DJK's roommate, not to DJK, and it was the roommate who was charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver, not DJK.

Re: Iowa the new Thug U?
None of that matters to me. Why? Because of the following 2 reasons:And according to the reports I've read, the laptop belonged to DJK's roommate, not to DJK, and it was the roommate who was charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver, not DJK.
1.He WAS using illegal drugs and was in possession of them
2.He was living with a drug dealer.........his own choice.
I feel no sympathy for him because of those 2 facts. I don't care whose laptop it was or who was charged with what. After knowing those 2 above facts, nothing else really matters to me. I hope they punish him to the fullest intent of the law.
Re: Iowa the new Thug U?
You forgot about fact #3: You don't care about the facts and will continue to post misinformation.
To my knowledge, he has no prior record and will very likely get a deferred judgment and probation.....to the fullest extent of the law.

Re: Iowa the new Thug U?
What misinformation have I posted? I have posted nothing but facts related to the Iowa program in this thread except my Jewel Hampton comment from yesterday (which I apologized for). But it turned out I was actually right with that.Mace wrote:You forgot about fact #3: You don't care about the facts and will continue to post misinformation.
The above photo is Jewel's facebook status from today. There are rumors swirling in from all over that he is leaving because he tested positive for drugs. I am not saying that is why he is leaving, I am just saying that this is what is being rumored and it seems to be pretty damn accurate- just like the rumor yesterday about Hampton leaving the team (turned out to be true).
Maybe he's leaving because he's had enough of going through rehab for his knee, but it sounds unlikely.
Also, rumors of A-Rob and Bernstine being linked to DJK are getting out there. Don't shoot the messenger. I'm just stating rumors. Before you shoot down all these message board rumors, you should probably know that quite a few of the ones over the years on the Iowa board have actually turned out to be true- though maybe not such a high percentage of them.
It sounds bad, Mace........real bad. Miller and Kakert are going into full-thread-deletion right now, and that usually means shits about to pop off.

So what? That doesn't make what he did right. I don't care what the law says he deserves..........he needs to get his life together and he made a HUGE mistake. To my knowledge, he has no prior record and will very likely get a deferred judgment and probation.....to the fullest extent of the law.
I hope he turns his life around, but the odds of that are pretty slim. People like him usually continue to make poor choices in life. Especially those that get off with bullshit probation. 90% chance he is a repeat offender.
Re: Iowa the new Thug U?
This is misinformation. You made it sound as though DJK was dealing and there is no evidence to support that. I understand that he chose to live with a drug dealer and was using illegal drugs, and he has no one to blame for his current troubles but himself. My son called me earlier tonight and told me about Hampton and my first thought was that he tested positive for drugs, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case. We'll likely never know the whole story. But, like you said yesterday, losing Hampton is no big loss. He's allegedly got a laptop with names of people that owe him money for drugs dating back to last year. The cops took his laptop. You're aware of this, right? He admitted to using the day before he got busted.
You have to be extremely naive if you think any college football team doesn't have drug users on the roster, JON. For Christ's sake, that was even true when I was in college, and probably more widespread then than now. That said, I don't know how you can jump to the conclusion of "RIP Iowa football".
KCCI just reported the Hampton story. Their source? Hampton's facebook status. I don't doubt that it's true, but my God. His facebook status is grounds for a story? No official word from Iowa, just facebook. That's stellar journalism.

Maybe there really are legs to this story, but I think there's a good chance he is just mocking Iowa fans for the rumors we have started about him.
We will find out in the coming days if he was messing around with his Facebook status or if he really meant he was gone from the Iowa team. Either way............

Re: Iowa the new Thug U?
Ok, maybe Jewel's facebook post wasn't a joke!
Marc Moorehouse reporting that a press release from Iowa is expected soon and that potentially 11 players might be suspended for the Insight Bowl and/or kicked off the team. I don't really care about the Insight Bowl, but I hope there aren't a bunch of players booted from the team. That would be bad. Like I said, who gives a shit if we win some shit bowl game? Does nothing for the program. We shouldn't even be in a bowl game, anyways. But having players kicked off the team would set the program back.
Sounds like Jewel is for sure gone, however. Other than that, sounds mostly like Insight Bowl suspensions are expected. Sounds like we will be down to a true freshman at RB, down a starting DL or 2, both starting WR's out, and some other players against Mizzou.
I knew this team had mental issues. You could tell just by watching them. I said this all along. They didn't lose because of talent, they lost because they were too busy getting high. Everything is coming into place now when I think back to Clayborn's comments about the defense not putting in the effort in practice. Well, this would be why. I think Clayborn's comments have now officially been validated. It just didn't make sense how for the last couple of years we had players perform very well on defense and this year they just simply forgot how to tackle and how to not suck. Not 1 player on defense this entire year played all that well, yet many of them were outstanding last year (and some the year before). Something was going on off the field, I just didn't know what. But now I think this proves how right I was about the lack of heart and focus this team had this year. It's why we lost. I said it all along, talent had NOTHING to do with the record. It was just a heartless bunch that had more of a focus on things off the field than on the field. I knew it all along. I could tell with their body language. They gave up 6-6 (counting Indiana) game winning 70+ yard scoring drives because they didn't give a shit. Not all of them, but quite a few. What a sad and pathetic bunch, and I apologize to the 50% or so of the team that did give effort and aren't a complete jerkoff for having to lump them in there with the rest of the losers.
Rumor also has it that Sash is going pro because he doesn't want to be around this mess any longer. He's a strong Christian that is very much against drug use. That's just fantastic.
