Re: Singletary SACKED as 49ers head coach
He should have been fired a long time ago. He doesn't know how to manage his players and routinely embarrasses himself with sideline confrontations. His players neither respect him nor fear him. He's coaching the team like he's still playing LB for the Bears in the 80s. He's a complete fucking mess.

Naturally the local talk is around what branch from the Bill Walsh tree will take this plum job. ![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

Re: Singletary SACKED as 49ers head coach
The timing has everything to do with the ownership trying to secure funding for the new stadium while the team is rapidly spiraling downward, out of control. The only reason that the financing isn't completely fucked is that the team continues to sell out home games.Paul wrote:Damn, they couldn't wait until after the last game?

Best part about this is that the below announcements show ownership is clearly listening to the fans.
-Alex Smith will not be re-signed
-A GM will be hired to run the team
-GM will hire the new coach, NOT ownership

Re: Singletary SACKED as 49ers head coach
It could be interesting what happens in the next week between the 49ers, Chargers and possibly Michigan when it comes to talks involving Jim Harbaugh. You have to wonder if he leaves Stanford for any of those jobs. I'm not foolish enough to think he would pass on an NFL job if it was given to him even if he was offered the Michigan job. He's going to have his choice of jobs...could have a very big pay in his near future.
Re: Singletary SACKED as 49ers head coach
He's basically gone the "no comment" route even when asked if he plans to stay at Stanford long-term. He'll be on the move somewhere soon...that's a certainty. Succeeding at Stanford over the long haul is almost impossible due to the strict academic standards. Not to mention that they're in the top ten and can't even sell out home games.
Harbaugh would be a good fit. But rumors that ownership covets Gruden have been making the rounds for weeks now.

Re: Singletary SACKED as 49ers head coach
I know the standard response in the NFL Forum is to take any comment thrown your team's way and the validity of such comment is based upon said thrower's team's record, but let me point out a few things here:OCmike wrote:A guy named IndyFrisco who roots for Houston is calling something all fucked up? Awesome.
1. IndyFrisco is my nick because I used to live in Frisco, TX. I went by a prior nick of Frisco Aggie. I was always referred to as Frisco by most in short kind of like people here refer to some by ucant, tart, Wags, etc. I moved to Indiana and kept Frisco, but I prefixed with Indy. However, this has absolutely zero relevance to the fact the 49ers have sucked dogshit for some time which I pointed out.
2. I'm a Titans fan, not Texans. However, this has absolutely zero relevance to the fact the 49ers have sucked dogshit for some time which I pointed out.
3. The 49ers have sucked dogshit for some time. That is a fact. You said in one post that ownership is going to hire a new GM and that new GM will be given the keys to personnel. In the very next post, you claim how ownership is enthrawled with Gruden. I point out the "Marcus Allen a-ha of the day" in that no wonder your team has sucked dogshit for some time.
4. It is ok if someone else points out your team's flaws regardless of what their team's flaws are. Sometimes, a team has a bad week/year/decade/etc. YOU can't do anyting about it but root for your team, but you can't bitch at someone else for pointing it out either.
5. Going IKYABWAI? SHOULD be above everyone now except in KC.

Any of you homos tell me it's too spicy...I'll kill ya.
Yeah, the GM will choose the coach. That doesn't mean that ownership will have zero input into suggestions or have zero involvement in the process. Is that really that tough a concept to grasp?3. I'm pretty sure the player of today laffs at him behind his back.
But firing the guy with one game left in the season? lol
Looks like ownership is trying to humiliate him.

Better than letting him twist in the wind. He's getting paid for that extra game and two years after that. I'm sure he'll get over it.poptart wrote:RACK the take!ucant wrote:He should have been fired a long time ago. Twist in the wind?
No.
You call him in Monday after final game is played this Sunday.
Firing a head coach with one game left in the season is one of the more bizarre things I've seen.

BTW, that 49ers team would be a PERFECT place for Marty Schottenheimer to resume his coaching career...in THAT division he would easily get that team over .500 and back into the playoffs his 1st year there.

Yea, twist in the wind. The reports of his demise were already beginning to fly. Better to take him out quick and get the search for new blood rolling than to let the rumors drag on any longer.poptart wrote:Twist in the wind?

If they hire Gruden as GM, and he chooses himself as coach, then no inconsistency. Right?OCmike wrote:

Re: Singletary SACKED as 49ers head coach
According to Jed York, he fired Singletary because the team had been eliminated from playoff contention and that considering the shit state of the NFC Worst, that was unacceptable. But the other two big reasons for the timing were that once he decided Singletary was gonzo, they wanted to begin interviewing candidates immediately to get a jump on the other teams and more importantly, wanted a coach and GM in place well before the end of the season and the impending CBA talks and (likely)lockout.BSmack wrote:Yea, twist in the wind. Re: Singletary SACKED as 49ers head coach
That's one way of looking at it. The correct way to look at it is that he was fired right after the team was eliminated from the playoffs.poptart wrote:Firing a head coach with one game left in the season is one of the more bizarre things I've seen.
Singletary stated on numerous occasions that the team was playoff bound. He failed to deliver and was a circus act on top of it.
