Re: IT'S GAMEDAY!!
And Mace, the fact that Clayborn is going to make a ton of money in the NFL and be a high pick just proves what a pathetic year he had. He was an embarrassment out there today except for the 1 play he made. Their LT was completely owning him all game. It was one of the most pathetic displays of defense I have ever seen. And, much like most of this year (despite what you think), he wasn't double teamed at all. He was getting blown off the line like it was his first game playing the position.
He will be solid in the NFL but he was horrible this year and he was a big part of the reason for our defensive struggles late in games.

true. won my last nine bets going into the game and then let a friend talk me into mizzou. was going to use this $50 to buy a couple "how to play poker" books.Mace wrote: Hey, at least you only lost $50.

While I didn't watch it start-to-finish, and despite me making fun of Stinkel earlier, I thought it was pretty smart that Miss Poo kinda closed up their spread a little where Clayborn wanted to go through. He saw all kinds of blocking, which was quite freaking wise on Missouri's part -- funny how that happens after studying the other team for a month.
Fine player, Clayborn. Ask Julius Peppers about throwing up huge numbers as a junior (redshirt soph, whatever)... see what happens next season.

And RACK the living hell out of Coker. That was pretty sick. Dragging piles like a rockstar shaking off groupies. Who woulda thunk the Second Coming of Toby Gerhart would come so soon. He's gonna make Iowa a directional school next year -- that direction being north-south.

Video of a Mizzou TD

I realized too late that I should really be focusing more on hotties than the action on the field, but the best I could do at that point was a stealth shot of this cute chick's ass one row below me...

I'll try to do better next time.

Insight Bowl, Tempe Arizona: #14 Missouri vs. Iowa
Result: Iowa 27, Missouri 24.
You don’t fall behind 17-3. You don’t chuck a red zone pick. And you sure as hell don’t force a brain-dead throw on the back end of a drive that would all but end the game and turn it into a pick-fucking-six. Talk about stealing defeat from the jaws of victory.
This is who we are.
This is what we do.
As a life-long Missourian, I’ve been a Tiger fan for well over 40 years. When the time came to enroll in college, there wasn’t another school in the country that I ever considered attending other than the University of Missouri.
But oh, the price of fealty.
You understand now, KC, the pessimism that forever clouds our allegiance. As Tiger fans, we KNOW that we will be forever doomed by fifth downs, flea kickers, and four-second full court dashes. For every Alabama, USC, or Notre Dame we might surprise, there’s a 1-8 Wildcat or Cyclone team out there lying in wait to bring us back to our reality. We are Missouri.
Was Iowa the better team? I don’t know. They were last night, and that’s all that matters. I’m of a mind that if they played that game 10 times, Missouri would win at least half of ‘em. But Tuesday night’s game is the only one that counts. Bottom line? Score more points.
Being that we only seem to get around to playin’ one another about once a century, I’m gonna go ahead and say that Mace, JON, and their Hawkeyes have about the closest thing to Eternal Scoreboard as this shithole is ever likely to see.
Congratulations, boys.

It's been a good week for Iowa. The Hawks knock off a 10-2 Missouri team and theJON dominates the board bitch voting. I'd say Iowa is off to a good start on a long winning streak.....of course it will end tonight when Iowa faces Illinois on the hardcourt.
Re: IT'S GAMEDAY!!
Bow your neck, Mace. I haven't seen the Hawks play yet this year, but the Illinois bigs are pretty good and I've got a feeling they might be a mite grumpy....

Truman: Iowa is a very bad team, although improved from last season, and it will be a long night for the Hawkeyes barring a miracle or three. I'll watch the game but will probably opt for football if it gets too ugly in the second half.

Mizzou had them by the shorties until that Pick 6. Still can't believe the brain cramp that led Gabbert to that throw. Maybe he's not ready for the NFL yet, at least I hope not. If in losing that game we get that arm back for another year, I will consider that a small price to have paid.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:I guess Iowa was able to get up for the game after all. But even after that INT, I still thought they would find a way to win. Overturning the call on the field after Moe's 4th down reception was bullshit, but by that point I was too spent to get very pissed off. I knew I didn't want it to go to OT so it was TD or nothing as far as I was concerned.
What a horrendously rough day at work after staying up late to watch that. I just can't do that shit anymore, especially when it only results in getting my heart ripped out.
Re: IT'S GAMEDAY!!
We've got a new coach and a new system this year, so they'll cut him some slack for a couple of years. Fran McCaffrey likes an up tempo game and it's going to take a little while for him to recruit the athletes he needs for his style of play, and for the leftover Lickliter players to adjust. So far they're showing improvement every game, so I'm enjoying the season. ISU has a kid named Christofferson who lit up Iowa with 3 pointers all night long.Truman wrote:Yeah, I saw where the Mayor and his 'Clones got you in Iowa City the other night. Congrats Iowa. Great game. Sure wish we had gotten Gabbert. Had to root for MIzzou one last time OOC. Iowa gets the OOC nod next year.

That may be but it seems to me Iowa would be better off playing Missouri considering Doc Sadler is 8-5 against the Tigers and has sent MU home 3 times in the Big 12 tourney.Truman wrote: At least Nebraska guarantees you two more wins next year....
Re: IT'S GAMEDAY!!
Point taken, 'sker. Hard to root against the Doc.
Mike Anderson is 4-6 against Nebraska. It ain't like Devaney is the Coors Event Center - Great fans, and I love seeing games televised from that venue. And Tiger fans root hard every year for your 'skers to knock off the ChickenHawks. But given Mizzou's start, I'd look for MA to have that record evened out against the Big Red by season's end.

Ironically, among the two better cookie cutter arena designs from the Big 8 days (I'd say Hilton is #1). the CEC had been providing me with quality sports-entertainment dollar for years.....though, sucks no more beer. used to be, you could fly a CU GA ticket, nachos and a couple beers for 20$. great. get to see the better teams in the conference....circa TJ Ford, Kirk Hinrich/Drew Gooden, Tony Allen, Acie Law....et al.

Your dumbfuckery seems to never end.TheJON wrote:And props to Marcus Coker. What an outstanding performance, and its a real shame our coaching staff struggles to recognize their own talent at times. This isn't the 1st time the obviously more talented player has sat behind a lesser talented player and only got a chance to play if the starter got hurt.

Coker started practice in August as the 4th or 5th string RB, in part because they were expecting Hampton, Wegher, and Robinson to play ahead of him. Coker began the season in an arm sling with a broken collar bone after missing much of the pre-season practices which, as a true freshman, meant he was way behind in learning the offense and in getting in shape to play. They moved Rogers to FB when they decided Coker was good enough to get some carries and, yeah, they had to wait for Hampton and Robinson to get injured before he got significant playing time. Duh. Coker will develope into a big, strong, and durable RB but he's got a long way to go yet....and he's no Ronnie Harmon. He's more of a Shonn Greene Lite or Nick Bell, and he's going to be a good one, but there are going to be other young RBs on the roster next year who will push him and, who knows, Robinson could possibly be back on the team, although I seriously doubt it and think it would be bad if he's allowed to return.

Re: IT'S GAMEDAY!!
me and my homies rolled deep into the bar to watch the game. we were kinda loud for the mizzou/ illini game so they gave us our own room. SCORE!
iowa d-line did a good job. can't understand why the Tigers weren't running more. tigers usually run to the edge a lot, but not that night. gotta keep them linebackers running and closer to the LoS. those dunk passes didn't get much YAC. can't recall if it was fast corners or safeties playing shallow, but what as normally a 15 yd gain was only 7. iowa planned great.
mizzou's DEs were held on every fourth play. what good is having a first team freshman all-american if a lowly tackle can hug him to the ground?
there was a group of young hipsters watching the eagles/ Vikes game in the room next door, and when the Tiger game would go poorly I'd go over to their room and start talking to their women. I think the guys understood I was playing and laughed along, but the girls were not impressed.
i had 6 pints of guiness in me by the time that reception somehow had indisputable evidence and was overturned. it was not pleasant.

Re: IT'S GAMEDAY!!
Can we afford to kick A-Rob off the team? Yeah, Coker was great when given the chance to play this year and we do have a 4-star RB (Coe) coming in next year but that's really it. I'm not sure about DeAndre Johnson because we've never seen him play but he didn't have a lot of great offers coming out of HS. A-Rob is a quality back- especially as a backup. As many injuries as we seem to always have at RB, we can't afford to kick A-Rob off the team. Our starter will have exactly 2 college starts and very few other carries and our backups (the only 2 on the roster) will have 0 combined college carries if we kick him off.Robinson could possibly be back on the team
I'm not saying it's the wrong message to send by leaving him on the team, but let's face it........coaches don't really give a damn about that sorta stuff. We went 8-5 in a year where we had legit BCS aspirations, so the coaches won't want back-to-back mediocre seasons. Besides, A-Rob has been arrested just once and it's not for a major offense. I know it came at an inexcusable time, but I'm not sure it's right to punish someone like that because it came right after your star player got busted for dealing coke.
I would be fine with A-Rob remaining on the team and I would be fine with Kirk kicking him off. I definitely would at least suspend him for the first 2 games next year. 99% of the coaches in the country probably don't even suspend him.
Re: IT'S GAMEDAY!!
I thought you were the one who wanted "zero tolerance" and didn't care if Iowa went 6-6 every year with kids who didn't get arrested and cause embarrassment to the school? Oh, he'll get suspended...at the very least because Ferentz will want to "send a message". We also don't know all of the details about his Insight Bowl suspension or if maybe he's tested positive for drug use prior to this arrest. I trust that Ferentz will handle the situation fairly and in the best interest of the school and the program.TheJON wrote:Can we afford to kick A-Rob off the team? Make up your fucking mind.I'm not calling for a firing of Ferentz. But I will say this........the next time someone gets busted for coke, rape, or anything other that is major........Ferentz needs to be fired on the spot. And I don't give 2 shits how much it will cost to buy his contract out. I'm getting sick and fucking tired of our football program causing my university embarrassment due to off the field issues. This is the last straw. I will no longer support the coach the next time one of his players gives my school a bad name like this. The next player that gets a public intox- suspend him for 2 games. Enough is enough. If someone steals a fucking credit card- they're gone. I don't give a shit if it's your best player. ZERO tolerance from here on out, and if Kirk won't live by that rule..........get him the fuck out.

I never once said anything about zero tolerance. I just said I want the mass arrests to come to an end. If A-Rob previously tested positive for drugs, he needs to be gone. If not, suspend him for a couple of games. He's not kicking him off because he's a college football coach coming off a miserable season and he can't afford to destroy any depth we still have at RB. That's not a knock on Ferentz.........there isn't a coach out there that would kick him off.

I'm really not certain how that play got overturned, but it wasn't a catch. I froze the screen and you can tell the ball is on the ground for a split second. If you have a DVR, freeze it when they zoom in on it and you will see that they did make the right call. While I'm sure this was exactly what the ref in the booth was seeing, I was still pretty shocked they made the call.War Wagon wrote:Didn't quite rank up there with the 5th down, but it was close.Bizzarofelice wrote: i had 6 pints of guiness in me by the time that reception somehow had indisputable evidence and was overturned. it was not pleasant.

Iowa dismisses Adam Robinson
DES MOINES, Iowa -- Running back Adam Robinson's promising career at Iowa is over.
Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz announced Monday that Robinson had been dismissed from the Hawkeyes one week after he was arrested for marijuana possession. The coach said he would have no further comment.
Robinson, 21, was charged with possession of marijuana on Dec. 27 in his hometown of Des Moines. The Iowa State Patrol said Robinson was a passenger in a vehicle pulled over for not having a front license plate. A trooper detected a marijuana odor from the vehicle, then found marijuana after a search.
Robinson was suspended for Iowa's win over Missouri in the Insight Bowl for failing to comply with team policies. His arrest came the night before the bowl game, leaving the Hawkeyes (8-5) with an unwanted distraction they overcame in beating the Tigers 27-24.
Robinson rushed for a team-high 941 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2010 as the Hawkeyes' featured back.
Freshman Marcus Coker starred in Robinson's absence against Missouri, rushing for 219 yards and two touchdowns. Coker, who finished the season with 622 yards rushing on an impressive 5.5 yards per carry, will likely be Iowa's top back heading into spring practice.
Robinson was an unheralded recruit coming out of Lincoln High in Des Moines. But he got an unexpected chance to prove himself in 2009 when Jewel Hampton blew his knee out before the season.
Robinson led Iowa with a freshman-record 834 yards and five TDs in 2009 while sharing time with fellow freshman Brandon Wegher. Robinson was elevated to a starting role this fall when Wegher left the program for personal reasons, and he got the majority of Iowa's carries after Hampton injured his knee in September and was lost for the season.
Robinson's dismissal, along with Hampton's recent decision to transfer, leaves the Hawkeyes without any of their top three backs from the start of practice last fall.
Besides Coker, freshman De'Andre Johnson, who redshirted in 2010, will also be in the mix at running back in 2011.

Re: IT'S GAMEDAY!!
There had to have been something else going on with him. I don't think he's kicked off the team because of minor pot possession. Maybe grades? Maybe tested positive for drugs prior?? Ferentz has never kicked anyone off for something so minor unless it was a multiple offender (ie Benny Sapp).
Good job Kirk! Get the jackoffs off the team!
And you have got to quit taking shit I say out of context. I didn't mean I want Ferentz gone if he has players arrested. I was talking about mass arrests and not punishing players properly. When you have that many 18-22 year olds, you're going to have the occasional arrest. But I am getting tired of the mass arrests. Those have got to stop. No more excuses. And when a player gets drunk and assaults a cabbie (I don't care that he called him the "n" word), they need to serve a suspension.
Zero tolerance = suspend the offenders and kick the multiple offenders off the squad. Comprender???

When you have that many 18-22 year olds, you're going to have the occasional arrest. But I am getting tired of the mass arrests. Those have got to stop. No more excuses. And when a player gets drunk and assaults a cabbie (I don't care that he called him the "n" word), they need to serve a suspension.
Zero tolerance = suspend the offenders and kick the multiple offenders off the squad. Comprender???
Re: IT'S GAMEDAY!!
I didn't take anything out of context, dumbfuck. I just quoted EXACTLY what you said......even though I knew it was jonsense.
At any rate, he kicked Robinson off the team even though you were certain that would not happen. Obviously, there is at least ONE coach out there who would kick him off the team....even though it exposes the lack of depth at the RB position.

Not the one that bounced off his receivers hands in the endzone that shoulda' tied the game right before halftime.Mace wrote: Which interception?

Ohhhh, he meant the pick 6. I see. But it did help Micah Hyde's NFL stock, so it's a push. :)War Wagon wrote:Not the one that bounced off his receivers hands in the endzone that shoulda' tied the game right before halftime.Mace wrote: Which interception?

I don't normally like to rub salt in my own wounds, but...Mace wrote: Ohhhh, he meant the pick 6.
How the fuck did Mizzou allow that to be taken back for a TD? Just inexcusable, almost as bad as allowing Tyus Edney to dribble a ball 94 feet in 4.8 seconds for a layup. :brad:
On 2nd thought, I do like to rub salt on my wounds.
