Stanford promoted OC David Shaw to replace Jim Harbaugh as HC.
Seems like a nice hire to me. They were able to pretty much avoid the high profile HC market and promote a quality candidate from within. Shaw is a "Stanford guy" (four years at WR in the early 90s under Bill Walsh) who followed Harbaugh back to Stanford from USD. With Shaw as OC they have broken the school scoring record in each of the past 2 seasons. He was also running backs coach this past season, when Stanford was extremely successful running the ball.
Not a high profile candidate, but I think a potentially good fit. He could be an epic failure given the high expectations entering next season, or he could be the next Jim Harbaugh. It will definitely be interesting.

It had to be a Stanford man.

Re: Stanford promotes OC Shaw to replace Harbaugh
So, Fangio, Roman and Drevno are following Harbaugh to the Niners.
Fangio, in particular, will be missed. With something like 17 years of NFL experience, in one year he turned what had been a mostly pathetic defense into a force that was a big part of the team's success in 2010.
So now they need a new DC. I hear that Mike Singletary is available.

Re: Stanford promotes OC Shaw to replace Harbaugh
Obviously, having Luck back should help ease his transition. He should have a very good team coming back next year and he's very familiar with the one side of the ball...I don't see them dropping off much.
Re: Stanford promotes OC Shaw to replace Harbaugh
God damnit, was hoping to get Shaw to be the OC at USC.
Re: Stanford promotes OC Shaw to replace Harbaugh
Why would he take a demotion?
Re: Stanford promotes OC Shaw to replace Harbaugh
because Harbaugh took USCs coordinator with him to the niners. All three worked together at San Diego. Shaw is also a close friend of CLK who had offered Shaw the job last year.
