KC, Vets are just like the rest of us, some act with as much honor and class as they can, others act like pieces of crap. Mr. Smith, imo, represents the latter. He chose to act classless rather than carry on with dignity.

I admire people who even in the face of ugliness and tradegy are able to control themselves and remain decent. I don't think MLK's message would have had the same power had he responded to his treatment in kind.

I don't blame him and many for there resentment of Fonda I just know that they shouldn't be applauded when they express that resentment in such a manner.

After graduating from New York University in February 1964, I joined the United
States Navy. My initial active duty assignment was as a naval aviation officer
candidate stationed at Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida. I was
commissioned as an ensign in the Naval Reserve on August 17,1964.

Upon graduation from NAO school I was assigned to Naval Air Station, Sanford,
Florida in the RA5C program. During my tour as a student I was teamed with my
initial pilot, Lt. Giles R. Norrington. We continued to fly as a crew until
three years later when we were shot down over Ha Tinh Province while flying a
reconnaissance mission over Highway 15.

During my approximate five years of imprisonment I lived with LCDR Norrington
for a total period of 23 months. I had the privilege of disembarking from the
air evacuation plane at Clark AFB with him.

My thoughts at this time were ones of overwhelming gratitude and respect for
the unselfish acts performed on behalf of the POWs and the MlAs by the
President of the United States and the American public. Although it was a time
of great personal happiness, it was also a time to remember and pray for the
many men missing in action and hope for their return.

I was deeply moved by the warmth and sincerity of all the wonderful people who
welcomed us home and witnessed our "rebirth". Seeing grown men's eyes colored
with tears and hearing women speak to me as if I were their returning son
reinforced my belief in the ultimate kindness of the American people and that
America is truly the greatest country of all. The honor was mine to be
permitted to serve my country.

As before and during my imprisonment, my thoughts revolved around my beautiful
wife, wonderful son and loving mother. My wife Linda and I were married
January 16, 1966 in Sanford, Florida. During my first cruise God blessed us
with our son Derek, born November 7, 1966. We were reunited March 17, 1973 in
Jacksonville, Florida.

During my imprisonment my faith in God, country and man was confirmed and
strengthened by the wonderful way in which my fellow prisoners conducted
themselves in the face of extreme physical and mental deprivation and
pressure. The foundation of genuine and altruistic support given us as POWs by
the American people sustained and encouraged us throughout the long years.

My present goals are centered around the hope and desire to serve my country
as a member of the United States Navy.

In conclusion, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the President of
the United States and the American people for their concern, kindness and
understanding shown to my family during my long absence. However, I have one
more request of your kindness. Don't let the MlAs or their families be
forgotten. Now that we are home, please transfer the support you have shown
us, the returned POWs, to the effort of aiding the MIA families in their
search for knowledge concerning their heroic loved ones. These families still
face the pain and problems connected with the absence of their husbands,
fathers and sons. God bless your efforts in the past - and those in the
future.

I was raised with and still maintain a contempt for Jane Fonda's actions back then.

But members of my family, the families of the men held as POWS, did. Some did close to ten years. Waiting, wondering, watching. The families of 2,000 never knowing exactly what happened to their loved ones ... waiting, wondering, watching .... watching as Jane Fonda exploited, used, and prospered ... in the very same system she condemned ....

Mr Smith, while taking a risk of getting some of "her" on him, what I think of him, what a troop from a war a generation later think of him ....really don't matter.

I'll leave the RACKS or NON RACKS to the men with whom he served. The Vietnam Vets

I have heard and read that some people believe that Jane Fonda was simply young and impressionable. Jane Fonda was born on December 21, 1937. She was 34 years old when she made her infamous trip to North Vietnam and was in her 30's when she participated in anti-war demonstrations and rallies. During this same time period a large number of young American soldiers, who had not yet reached their 21st birthday, were fighting the war in Vietnam and were held accountable for all of their actions. These same young soldiers were, upon their return to the United States, still not of legal age to vote or buy alcoholic beverages. Jane Fonda was an adult when she made these conscious decisions and actions, and as such, she is responsible and should be held accountable. The Vietnam Memorial Wall contains the names of 25,493 American soldiers who served their Country and paid the ultimate price for freedom who were under the age of 21 ( Casualty Statistics).

Many Veterans would have enjoyed seeing the following mug shot of Jane Fonda taken for her treasonous acts, instead of the bogus drug charge which was later dropped.

Been doing some reading and realize now that I didn't know ALL that she had said and done. Wasn't right to spit in her grill, but I understand why he would want to.

The truth is that most of this never happened. This is a hoax story placed on the internet by unknown Fonda haters. No one knows who initiated the story. Please assist by not propagating the story. Fonda did enough bad things to assure her a correct place in the garbage dumps of history. We don't want to be party to false stories, which could be used as an excuse that her real actions didn't really happen either. It is a fact that Jane did visit Hanoi the summer of 1972. She did make at least 8 broadcast speeches to American troops in wartime Vietnam. Following WWII, Toyko Rose, Axis Sally, Lord Haw Haw, and two others were tried for treason, convicted and executed for making broadcasts to American troops. Hanoi Jane made similar broadcasts. I have spoken with all the parties named: Carrigan, Driscoll, et al. They all state that this particular internet story is a hoax and they wish to disassociate their names from the false story. They never made the statements attributed to them. Systematic torture of POWs by the North Vietnamese did slow down in late 1969, after Ho Chi Minh died. Some camps were devoid of torture after 1969, but several individuals continued to be brutally tortured for information and propaganda. Fonda's visit was in mid-1972. Treatment was starting to improve at the time of her visit, but at least one POW was hung by his broken arm to force him to go before Ms. Fonda (name withheld by request). Even the last POW shot down and captured, 1/27/73 was brought to Hanoi and brutally tortured…only two weeks before the first release of prisoners (i.e., the Vietnamese remained fully capable of brutal treatment to the bitter end…if it suited their agenda). You are welcome to forward this rebuttal to the Carrigan/Driscoll story, as you like. No acknowledgment of this note is required.
