"I'm not just an advocate. I'm a client."Los Angeles Lakers forward Ron Artest plans to change his name to Metta World Peace.
Artest's attorney filed a petition in Los Angeles Superior Court to do so.
The 31-year-old basketball player, who was born Ronald William Artest Jr., is citing personal reasons for wanting to change his name.
An Aug. 26 court date is set to consider the petition.
Artest has been an advocate for mental-health counseling and recently raffled off the 2010 NBA championship ring he won with the Lakers to raise more than $650,000 for his charity.

How long before we hear teammates, reporters, and annoncers saying "it's just Metta being Metta"?

The wierdest thing to me is that he is only 31. I feel like he's been in the league 16 years, but I remember him in college.
Lamar Kardashian is the same way.

No shit. The brawl seems like it was 15 years ago.
And Kardashian -- seems like I was a kid when he put up some of the sickest rookie numbers ever, bounced around, got booted from the league, got reinstated, bounced around, got traded for Shaq, and became some sort of reality TV star.
Quite a journey for a 31 year old.
