Open
If'n I'm not mistaken, the Granddaddy starts tomorrow.
And I'm going to have to go with...
Dinsdale's Buddy's Stepbrother
Yup, it's Garrigus' time to shine.
Remember, have your official picks in no later than monday (unless you do it later).
You may post your unofficial picks prior to that, if you like... and since I'm apparently the moderator here, I'll just change your preliminary pick to Robert Garrigus.
I will, however, allow Mucho to take Phildo as a dark horse.

Two top 10 finishes in like 17 years at the Open. I wouldn't pick The Mick over the pond.
I'll take McIlroy with Tom Watson as the dark horse.

I hope you didn't jinx him. So what'd he finish, +8 or something?IndyFrisco wrote:Tom Watson ... -1 thru 3

Dude had that jug in his grasp 2 years ago (at age 59) and let it slip away on the 72nd hole, losing in a playoff. That would've been the most amazing golf story ever if he coulda' pulled it off.
Did I mention he's from KC? Yeah, he's been like the 3rd major sports franchise around here for the last 35 years.

+2... not out of it.War Wagon wrote: I hope you didn't jinx him. So what'd he finish, +8 or something?
Although as of right now, the projected cut is +1 ... but a whole lotta things are going to happen in the next 18 -- they always do.
At this point, I'm really just hoping for a victory by an American. Besides Cink, we're getting into one of those Open droughts again.

Re: Open
Garrigus better drop a 59 tomorrow. (It's a Par 70, so 59 is a little easier, maybe -- it's a "traditional" Par 70, and you get "cheated" out of 2 Par 5's, which is where most players make their hay, even us hacks.)

A bad break? He hit it into a sand trap and couldn't figure out how to hack it out. There's a hella lot of courses that owe me then.Felix wrote:i remembered the last time they played at royal st. george and how bjorn got a bad break on 16IndyFrisco wrote:

Re: Open
actually it was fifteen I was thinking of...ball took a nasty kick and threw him into a pot bunker that he had to play out sideways.....the bunker at 16 was pretty much his own fault for trying to play too fine of a shot....just accept the fact you're going to make a bogey and get the thing out....Goober McTuber wrote:He hit it into a sand trap and couldn't figure out how to hack it out. Yeaah, I jinxed Watson into a hole in one. Cut projected at +3. Old man made it to the weekend. Now I am hoping for some TOTAL SHIT weather. Watson thrives in shitty weather while most of the rest would die.

I wasn't going to pick him to win, or be a dark horse. I am very surprised to see him in the hunt.Dinsdale wrote:I will, however, allow Mucho to take Phildo as a dark horse.
If he could make a freaking short putt he'd be right at the top of the leaderboard.

Lots of Yanks making a run at it.
Although I've seen this movie starring Dustin Johnson a couple of times before -- in case any of you haven't seen it yet, I won't spoil the ending... but it's pretty funny and sad.
Darren Clarke looks like he's 80 years old.

Pretty sure I caught a shot of him lighting up a smoke before ESPN quickly yanked the feed away from such a non-PC act. I will root hard for this guy.Darren Clarke looks like he's 80 years old.

DC did some good living in the early days. he earned that 80 year old look.

The word "dumb" comes to mind.
That just took the fun out of this one.
Unless Darren Van De Velde makes an appearance, it's over.
