Angels vs. Indians PET

Post by jiminphilly »

Flew to Cleveland yesterday morning to meet with a broker and some clients. Afterwards we had decent seats behind home plate and saw the game between the Angels and Indians. This was my first time at Progressive Field and I didn't move much beyond my seat because my client was buying me (shit) beer all night.

To start:

Who gives a big fat hippo cock?

I get stadium naming rights:

But foul pole advertising? WTF?

Fausto Carmona

I went with ketchup

This won me a beer

You'd never see RF bleachers empty in Philly

Decent dusk shot. Downtown stadiums rock.

1-0 game before Abreu goes yard

I wasn't paying attention though. Her face was decent and I kinda like a Sizemore shirt on a girl

Managed to snap this with the boss on my left and broker to my right

At an Indians game no less. There was a dad with his 5 year old son sitting in front of us who called this guy out. Rack good parenting.

Can we start a new category? Douchebags who wear headbands?

Decent

She caught my eye

Slightly older than I imagined but fuckable

Oh yeah- about the game- Indians loaded the bases and with 2 outs a rookie up from Columbus earned his first MLB hit that won the game.

Anyone ever play mound ball?

Rack the PET. How come you Philadelphia degenerates didn't build a downtown park?

Lots of rational reasons why they should have built a downtown park but ultimately it came down to having the available space in the South Philly complex and wanting to keep all the stadiums in that area. It seems like it'll be a smart move b/c with the destruction of the Spectrum, they're building a new shopping/entertainment/food complex that should cause more sidewalks to smell like piss.

He was so overmatched against Harden who was just flat out nasty. I gotta give the Indians credit- they're a scrappy team that plays pretty good defense. Hafner can also flat out rake.

Was the guy beating the drums in-between pitches in centerfield there?

Very nice job, jim.

RACK you!

And double rack you for manning-up and sneak-snapping the obligatory ass shot while sandwiched between boss and broker.

I remember when you were lucky to get a nosebleed ticket at the Jake. Now the place is a ghost town and they're AL Central contenders. Pathetic.

Ebay, spring of 2000. Bean brawl breaks out, benches clear, Pedro's involved. What a surprise.

I think it was a combination of the Jacobs' family not keeping players and new ownerships' penchant for doing the same. Ever since 2005 they have had competitive teams, peaking in 07 with the ALCS appearance.

Also factor in how there are no jobs in metro Cleveland anymore. Detroit is in a very similar situation but at least Illitch is willing to overspend on players, which for some reason, Tiger fans seem to appreciate.

Tickets are still cheap though. Face value for my ticket (10 rows behind home plate) was $44 or something like that + $4 towards the use of concessions. Thinking the higher level seats are half to less than $15. I guess the Angels are not a big draw.. I blame Abreu.

That team was freaking stacked.

If only they had taken Elton John's advice, and sang We Shall Beat Levon from the heart, we'd be talking about them a lot more.

It seems like it was a shitty no-hitter, if there is such a thing. The Indians still scored a run and had 5 errors. yawn.

At least you got a decent PET out of your trip. Try sneaking ass and tit shots in while you are trying to take two kids to a ballgame unassisted. Not as easy when little fuckers to your left and right are tugging on you everytime a lemonade vendor rolled by.

Either way, I'm raising a mini-superfan. RACK him.

It's better to overspend than underspend. Do you prefer owners who pocket their cash? Take yourself back a few years when the Tigers were the laughing stock of the AL. Money had to be ponied up in order to attract players there. Horrid team + undesirable city = back up the cash truck.

Exactly.

It's why even Raider fans who hate Al Davis reluctantly give him some props for not tight-fisting his cayesh.

The Eagles don't overspend on players and have a reputation of being cheap yet they've had significantly more success with their model than the Raiders. It's not about throwing around money, it's about placing a higher value on key positions and paying the proper market value for that player.

Eagle management has been smarter than Al Davis over the past decade-or-so, no doubt about it.

If you're going to field 5-11 teams, fans find it easier to take if they see that you're not fielding those shit teams just because you're pocketing cash you should be investing on players.

That's all I'm saying.

We're not talking about 2003, idiot. We're talking about 2011. What's respectable about overspending on marginal talent just to keep players around? Bobby Higginson, hello? It is all about intelligent spending.

Of course no one wants him to spend less.

The problem is that Al has no fucking clue HOW to spend money. The last few years he's been shuffling around in a bathrobe and a senile haze scratching checks for the most useless shit. The smartest investment he's made in the last eight years was the tennis ball he bought for his fucking walker.

People like him are one of the reasons the NFL is what it is today. People like him are also the reason that Chia Pets are sold.

If you want to talk 2011 why bring up Higginson? Idiot.

You can cherry pick deals and use as much revisionist history as you want. The fact is the Tigers are competitive because they're aggressive spenders. That doesn't guarantee every single move will pan out. Yes, when you spend money, you have a greater chance of getting egg on your face. If the biggest knock you have on Tiger ownership is that they've overspent to keep some core guys around a little past their prime, then that's pretty weak.

I can spin that the other way. Since 2006, they've been in the top 10 for payroll (if not the top 5 or top 3 for a few seasons) and they have ZERO FUCKING PLAYOFF APPEARANCES since the World Series appearance in 06. But that's OK!!!! At least they spending money!!!!

:meds:

You're as clueless as Dombrowski and Leyland.

I thought you wanted to talk 2011? Who on this team are they grossly overpaying for? That lineup is beastly, and worth what they're paid.

That IS ok, yes. They're putting themselves in a position every year to compete. That's what it's all about. There are no guarantees beyond that. As we all know, spending does not always guarantee a playoff appearance, but it increases your chances of one. And this year, they'll be in the playoffs. Take it to the bank.
You're as clueless as Dombrowski and Leyland.
Dombrowski is a good GM. Leyland is an idiot. Don't assimilate the two.
