So now that Tressel “retired”....
Who are the best head coaches in the Big 10?
At the risk of being called a homer, I’ll go with:
1. Bielema
2. Dantonio
3. Fitzgerald
4. Pelini/Ferentz

Pelini hasn't even coached a Big [insert # here] game yet and he's already in the top 3-4?

I assume that if Nick Saban returned to the Big 10 he'd also be considered one of the top coaches in the league. You're really not too bright. Even by southern standards.Carson wrote:Pelini hasn't even coached a Big [insert # here] game yet and he's already in the top 3-4?

I hate to say it, but I'd still put Ferentz at the top of the list now.
1. Ferentz
2. Bielema
3. Dantonio
4. Zook
5. Pelini

3. Dantonio

Ever heard of a guy named Paterno?

The guy who quit coaching in 1975? Was Bobby Bowden the best coach in the ACC in his last year?Carson wrote:I'm laughing at the lack of coaching respect in your precious conference.Goober McTuber wrote:I assume that if Nick Saban returned to the Big 10 he'd also be considered one of the top coaches in the league. Gotcha. So Lou Holtz was the best coach in the SEC in 2004, not Nick Saban? This is an interesting game.

Compared to the other active coaches in the ACC, Bowden was still the best, despite his incontinence.

JoePa is a legend, but current figurehead. If we're talking best coaches in the conference right now, it would seem that a bare minimum qualifier would be that you actually have to coach.

1 Ferentz - Ugh. If this guy is the current #1 that ain't saying much for the 10.
2 Bielema - Consistent and building better teams each year. An inept game coach is the only thing that doesn't give him the 1 spot.
3 Dantonio - Has what it takes to vault to 1, but still unproven. Needs to build consistency and win more big games on the road/national stage.
4 Fitzgerald - Gets more out of his talent than anyone. But the fact his qbs are always better rbs than his actual rbs is a problem. also loads up on ooc cupcakes, so when you start 4-0, 7-5 isn't overly impressive.
5 Pelini - He's a coach for a good team. There you go, 5th. Probably batshit crazy enough to will himself to be the best one day.

Pelini wasn't even 5th best coach in the XII. Speaks volumes for your "league"...

Re: So now that Tressel “retired”....
The head coach at the University of Nebraska measuring out at middle of the road in the Big Ten doesn't speak to much volume, no. Pelini didn't crack the top 5 in the Big 12? Who were all these superior coaches ceptin' Mack Brown and Stoops? Pinkel? Gundy? Hahahahahaha.
Anyway, I already finished smacking my own, dick. <------ War properly placed commas. Still, I'll take the current configuration of the 10 over your dissolving band of ou/ut scrote lickers any day.

Re: So now that Tressel “retired”....
You forgot Snyder. Along with Brown and Stoops, he is one of the three coaches left in the XII that have won the Conference. And yeah, I'll take Gundy and Pinkel over Pelini. Both of these coaches have built their programs basically from scratch. Pelini inherited his.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:The head coach at the University of Nebraska measuring out at middle of the road in the Big Ten doesn't speak to much volume, no. No, I haven't forgotten Snyder. We're not ranking coaches in a historical context. Bless his heart, he's coaching again at 72. But he hasn't been relevant in years.
You're an AD. You're going to hire Snyder right now over Pelini? I don't think so.

Put the goalposts back, Blue. That wasn’t my take.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:

Body of work DOES count in this league. Pelini has had three fine seasons at Nebraska, but like Pinkel, has never won dick. Both have three North titles between them, including two shared. But two-fiddy and a North title will buy you a latte at Starbucks. And despite WhornFan’s spin, the road to the BCS in this Conference has always rolled through Norman. We didn’t call the old Big XII Dr. Pepper Championship Game the OU Invitational for ‘nuthin.
Snyder has won a Conference Championship, and has coached his team in a BCS game. Pelini hasn’t.
And Snyder is – quietly –
once again…
- rebuilding that program to be begrudgingly included in future discussions. No, it ain’t gonna happen this year. But anyone who bets against that old man lends credence to why casinos never go out of business.

Quick question, M-Club: Who hired Pelini?
‘Nother one: Would you rather play for Bill Callahan and Tom Pederson, or Bo Pelini and Tom-freaking-Osborne? BTW, that little malaise of theirs lasted all of four years. Pre-Pinkel, Missouri’s had lasted since Devine went to ND. So yes, I stand by my take: Pelini inherited the program.

Ah. Killian. Still bitter from being hung by your jock on the locker room door last season are we, poseur?
Board Bitch contender? Long season, sport, and we’re still young here. I got a whole season to earn the title. ‘S’why we play ‘em on the field. But enough purse-swinging posts from a fan of an irrelevant CFB ancestor could easily put him in the running.
Typical ND: Always awarding titles before the damn games have ever been played. I’m thinking you’re the USA Today genius that pegged the Irish pre-season number 21 back in ’09. How’d that work out?
Take heart, though, Spanky: Three games against the B1G this year at least leaves you in the hunt to become bowl eligible….

Re: So now that Tressel “retired”....
What the fuck are you even talking about? The fact you mentioned Gundy building his program and implying that Pelini took over a good situation is fucking hilarious. So Brady Hoke is inheriting a good program, right?

Did you see his presser from the Big Ten Media Days? The guy is completely lost. Someone asked him what he thought about the new "taunting" rule, and he responded by talking about all the great young coaches in cfb.
