First time I have seen aTm above Oklahoma. ESPN, Phil Steele, Athlon, and Lindy's all have Oklahoma in the top five of the country and all ahead of aTm.
Wait, never mind . . . I see who the panel they used was. I'm not shocked at all anymore.![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

I was curious if Houston was going to be on the list. There is talk of a balanced attack from the Coogs offense this season. That would be crazy and stuff.

its funny, BUT it looks like nebraska will have the best running back tandem in the country, as the big ten will quickly find out.
Dont laugh, but we are gonna run the rock thru the michigan st spartan defense like a knife thru warm creamy butter.

To win in the Big 10, you need to bring a SMASHMOUTH pro style offense. Your faggoty little spread shit isn't gonna get it done. Martinez is a poor man's Denard Robinson, which doesn't bode well because even D Rob was contained by the better defenses in the league.
Good luck with that fairy little offense, DICK.

I will be rooting for the Corn to man rape the Michigan defense. Why would I want that bet?
In regards to NU's offense, I'm really not the least bit concerned about it. I'm just concerned with playing that game on the road; for that reason alone I don't expect MSU to win. I'm thinking something along the lines of 20-16 Nebraska.

yeah, that sounds about right, I mean, we arent in 1995 anymore, I/m just huffing and puffing, dont mind me, I put on this pre-season show, in hopes that nebraska will return to the mid-nineties dominance. Re: Top 10 backfields
Though tOSU is not on this list-- and rightfully so, since they are breaking in a brand new QB-- I would take our stable of running backs over any in the conference. And not just from a depth standpoint, the talent is all there.
Jamaal Berry & RS freshman Roderick Smith will probably battle for the starting position on Sep 3rd. Jordan Hall is rumored to being switched to slot WR just to get him on the field. Sophomore Carlos Hyde will be in the mix as well.
Not to mention, senior Boom Herron comes back in time for the Nebraska game. And Zach Boren could be the best FB in the B10 by season's end.

Iowa doesn't have a Top 10 backfield, but Marcus Coker is a Top 10 running back (maybe top 5). He is Shonn Green Part 2.

Let's see -- best RB in the country last year, Kenyon put up amazing stats when healthy (5 tuddies in a half), the best tandem last year, now bolstered by the #1 RB recruit from 2 years ago, with a redshirt under his belt.
Pretty badass.
Although the word "ever" gets thrown around too much.

Re: Top 10 backfields
I'm glad you recognize, to a certain degree, the "ever" word being tossed around a bit often. If you want to call from the mountain top Oregon having the best RB stable in the country this year I'll get behind you with a flag and wave it but when you toss in the "ever" I choke. I can think of at least four Oklahoma teams, a few Nebraskas, even raise you a handful of USCs, UCLAs, Colorados, Notre Dames, and even Armies' who either dwarf Oregon 2011/12 or at least can argue against it . . . and that is top of the head.Dinsdale wrote:King Crimson wrote:impressive, but deepest ever? no way. those guys have a LOT to prove to even sniff that accolade.Dinsdale wrote: Deepest assortment of RBs I've ever seen in CFB, frankly. Re: Top 10 backfields
top of the head as well, all Big 8/XII I admit. Mike Rozier and Roger Craig splitting carries at I Back for NU (with Turner Gill under center as a de facto RB). Tom Rathman is the FB. a Heisman and a handful of Super Bowl rings in that group. i remember my dad saying at on the OU-NU games in Norman in the 80's that Rozier may win the Heisman but Craig is the guy who is scary.
OU has Billy Sims, David Overstreet, Elvis Peacock on the same depth chart. all 3 are first round picks. leaving out the QB position (de facto RB)....Thomas Lott/JC Watts (Turner Gill above)....that's a Heisman, NFL Pro Bowler/NFL Rookie of the Year. FB for that crew Kenny King (though maybe Peacock was gone by KK's time)...was a 3rd round pick and had a nice NFL career with the Raiders (holds the record for longest TD run in the Super Bowl). there's the Greg Pruitt/Joe Washington depth chart earlier in the 70's. Pruitt avg'd 9 yards a carry. 9!. Switzer thinks if OU was on TV in 74, Washington wins the Heisman.***
Lamont Warren for Colorado turned pro as a junior and had a 6-7 year NFL career because he wasn't going to get any carries behind Rashaan Salaam at CU. Tashard Choice rushes for 1000 yards after t-ferring to Georgia Tech and makes the Dallas Cowboys roster after being in the same recruiting class as Adrian Peterson. Priest Holmes getting no totes behind Ricky Williams at UT.
UO has some work to do. Talented? Yes. "ever", possible but a lot of work yet to do.
***as a side note, Lee Roy and Dewey Selmon were recruited as running backs in the Joe Washington class. pretty good "net" haul at the RB position for the Sooners that year.

Re: Top 10 backfields
I'll take this a step further by saying this, the running back duo of lawrence phillips and ahmann green is light years better than ANY oregon backfield from ANY year EVER!!
not to mention that phillips was suspended for several weeks, YET, nebraska had 3 more tailbacks ready to take his place.
THE bottom line is this, 95 nebraska averaged 400 yds a game on the ground. HOLY SHIT, did I just say 400 was just the average outing? meaning that sometimes if nebraska felt like it, they'd run for over 600 yds in a single football game?
Oregon from ANY season in its pitiful existence cant dream of sniffing rushing numbers like that.
and this is playing against sissy fairy defenses in the pac ten no less.

I don't think we play each other this year, but UCLA's backfield is as loaded as any in the country. Now that the O will be more diversified this year Johnathon Franklin will expand on his success from last year. Derrick Coleman is the power back in the group. Jordan James is tearing it up in practice, coming in as the # 5 rated RB nationally by ESPN...Malcolm Jones was the # 3 rated back nationally by Scout and has had trouble seeing any playing time. Neuheisel has NOT shown any ability in keeping talent backs happy that aren't getting PT - so I believe a couple will bolt.
“It is usually futile to try to talk facts and analysis to people who are enjoying a sense of moral superiority in their ignorance.”

Matt Barkley is over hyped. I dont know how Steve Clarkson can justify the thousands of dollars he charged the Barkley family for QB coaching and Matt cant throw a spiral. The lack of spin on his ball makes any pass that travels more than 40 yards more unstable than an alter boy meetin a new priest who has large hands.
he needs to stay at USC through his senior year just so he can learn to throw a tight spiral

I'ts not even close really, Nebraska's rushing offense was cartoonish!!!! Look at those numbers!!! They arent even based in reality!! The average rushing day was 400 yds!!! For usc, that would have been a career high! For 95 huskers, it was just an average day at the job.
Sometimes, the huskers would drop 600 yds on the ground, just cause they felt like it. They had a stable of backs back then, running behind an O line that would pancake you like a roadrunner cartoon.
Usc wishes they could have a rushing attack like that.
