Iowa going after Southern Miss
http://hawkcentral.com/2011/08/02/paten ... -to-iowas/
...apparently they feel the So. Miss eagle is too similar to their chicken.
Wait...didn't these fucksticks rip their motif from the Steelers? And they're concerned over little old Southern Miss? Douchebags. Can't say I once looked at the Southern Miss logo and thought "Iowa." What is similar about the two logos, beyond the fact they're both yellow and both bird-like?

Again? They threatened to sue USM about 5 years ago. I guess nothing ever came of it.
I hadn't heard about this happening again. And I don't care. It's kind of lame. The Tigerhawk logo is actually very lame too. Turn it 90 degrees and it looks like Fred Flintstone.
These colleges are so protective of their logos. My high school was threatened by Kansas to change the Jayhawk logo because it was the exact same Jayhawk. We also had to go from being the Jayhawks to the J-Hawks. Lame.

Re: Iowa going after Southern Miss
1. We were a fucking high school in Des Moines fucking Iowa. Who gives a shit if we stole their logo? Another college, sure, I can see getting your panties in a bunch over that. How much money do you really think the University of Kansas lost because Urbandale High School in Urbandale, Iowa copied their logo? I'm gonna go out on a limb and say not one fucking penny. "oh noz, oh noz, a high school in Iowa is using our logo! oh noz! The horrah! The world is coming to an end! Everyone must die! OMFG! LMFAO!"IndyFrisco wrote:noj, the "TM" is a very valuable thing. 2. Wisconsin tried to sue another local high school (Waukee) because they claim they invented the letter "W". How fucking retarded is that? It's a god damn letter.
3. How can Iowa sue Southern Miss here? The logos ARE different. Oh sure, there are SOME similarities, but how can they claim it was stolen? Besides, Iowa's logo looks stupid. Turn that fucker 90 degrees and you will notice a striking resemblence to Fred Flintstone. Should the creators of The Flintstones sue Iowa too??
Better yet, let's everybody sue everybody for no good reason. I'm suing you for spelling my name backwards. And you can sue me for, I dunno, living in Iowa? Plain and simple, when a high school thieves a logo, it does absolutely NO harm to the college. It screws them out of not one penny. In fact, it probably brings them in more money because the retards that go to, say, Urbandale High School, are probably more willing to purchase Kansas Jayhawk gear because it's the same thing as their high school.
Fucking sensitive ignorant nutjob right wingers, I swear.....

I don't see what a major university has to seriously gain from picking on some podunk high school, but, if they want to go after someone for using their identical logo, that's their right. It's another matter entirely when the two logos in question aren't even all that similar.IndyFrisco wrote:noj, the "TM" is a very valuable thing. noj=bitch,
Let me repeat. Once you lose your trademark/copyright, you lose the right to be the sole beneficiary of it. In other words, even though a high school may not make much at all on copying the logo of another school, the fact the school that has the trademark/copwright did not fight to maintian sole proprietorship of it releases them from the sole ownership of said logo/trademark/etc. Therefore, once that ownership is dissolved, anyone can sell t-shirts with that logo and make money off it without legal recourse. Now, I'm just an IT/Finance guy so some of my language may be a bit off here, but the premise still stands. I believe 88 can really bore you to death while informing you of copyright/patent law. I'm just giving you the Cliff's Notes version, tard.

this sort of thing takes on a much greater (and therefore almost irrational legality) with the digitization of images. any clown can right click on an image, copy, paste, and voila!....i'm printing T-shirts. when it was Cletus in the garage trying to make an "OU" helmet logo stencil out of a shoe-box with an exacto-knife....there was demonstrably less to worry about.IndyFrisco wrote:noj=bitch,

I hear all the same bullshit you're spewing about copyright infringement from her all the time. She doesn't necessarily handle this specific type of case, but she's been brainwashed enough by her peers to believe the same things you are saying. We've been having this argument about Iowa's logo for years. I don't give a damn if someone steals it, she gets all offended by the thought of anyone even attempting to recreate the thing.....
2. Again, what's the big deal? I thought colleges were not-for-profit anyway? Who cares if someone is stealing your logo as long as it isn't another college? We were a god damn high school in Des Moines, Iowa. Did Urbandale High School make money off of the Jayhawk logo? Sure. Did it negatively affect the University of Kansas in any way, shape, or form? Not at all.

Re: Iowa going after Southern Miss
If we were talking about for-profit businesses, I would completely agree with you. But not public universities. The only reason I wouldn't like another college stealing a logo is because it would be lame to have schools with the same logo. Not because of any financial gains/losses.
Iowa will never win their case against USM. I guarantee it.

That would be nice, because it doesn't make sense to me. How can you "fight" what you're not aware of? By that I mean, I know there are dozens of high schools in the state of Michigan alone that use the Spartan logo, or something very similar to it. Probably close to a hundred high schools nationwide. If they don't go after every single school mimicking them, that means they lost the right to their trademark? How can you keep tabs on what every high school is doing?IndyFrisco wrote:See my last response to noj. 88 will certainly be here at some point to back up and clarify (and correct) my statements.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:I don't see what a major university has to seriously gain from picking on some podunk high school, but, if they want to go after someone for using their identical logo, that's their right. I believe the laws state something in the nature of. once you are made aware of it, you must fight to protect it. There is not a compliance department so to speak that must "hunt out" copyright infringement like a university compliance department needs to "hunt out" cheating.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:How can you "fight" what you're not aware of? Don't forget the Crapper was originally named after Thomas Crapper. I bet his life was ruined once other SOB's started calling their toilets a "Crapper". He probably even committed suicide.

You feel like an asshole because you are one. You practically did what I did when Wags posted an article from his daughter's softball game. He even mentioned her by name so scooting over to the team's website and there's the roster with pictures. I just took it a step further than you did and posted the "look what you just did" picture.Dinsdale wrote:Why do I suddenly feel like an asshole?

I had already found jon's wifey's pic, but after the Wags incident, I felt kinda bad for pointing out his stupid so I decided to let it go here knowing full well someone else will post it. Thanks for stepping up.
je....err...jon, you can either get pissed and bail or just accept your error and roll with it. Saw your pic too. You married up. Nothing wrong with that. Join the club. Now, if you want me to clean this mess up, I'd be glad too.
