Dude, you of all people... is it because they were chicks?
In their heyday, the 6-piece with Roger Fisher, they were an amazing freaking band.

Absofuckinglutely...
Sam, you're really missing the boat on this one. This is a no-doubt band, and I'd even go so far as to make the case that Ann Wilson is the best vocalist rock has ever seen. She's certainly at least in the discussion.

ok, dont laugh, BUT, Ive seen the Go Go's live, and let me just say, HOLY SHIT! These girls fuckin rock out today!! And, I know some of you will give me shit here, BUT, these girls can qualify as a bona-fide punk rock band!! Im not fuckin around either, SOMEONE port over the Go Go's LIVE in central park NYC, they close the concert with a cover of the Ramones, "I wanna be sedated"!!! Fuckin watch that and tell me these girls dont fuckin ROCK OUT WITH THEIR CLAMS OUT!! They are bona fide PUNK ROCKERS!!!
Im having trouble porting over you tube shit, so, will someone port over, GO GO's live from central park, closing song, "I wanna be sedated",!! it rocks dude!!!

And I found this to back my claims.
Let me chime in here with my BIG two cents! Ann and Nancy wilson absolutely Idolized Led Zepp, and it shows. these fuckin girls have been amazing for over 30 years now! ive seen them live a few times, and let me just say, they fuckin rock. Its a no-brainer to put them in the hall of fame, their body of work is classic, and Ann's vocals are legendary at this point, plus, Nancy just doesnt play amazing acoustic, but an amazing electric guitar as well.
PLUS, they are one of the few bands that can actually do a Led zepp cover, and actually sound great!!
Ive seen them do "black dog" and Rock n roll" live, fuckin amazing!
as for the Go Go's? Im not saying to put them in, all I am saying is that they are a bona-fide punk rock band! Anyone care to port over from youtube, their concert "Live in central park", they fuckin close the show with the Ramones, "I wanna be sedated", FUCKIN SHIT, these girls ROCK!!! OH, and belinda is so fuckin hot, and Jane weidlen too, I would drink their bathwater!

Christ.
It's cool Sam. I actually think you're a good guy. Not like Mikey who needs a Mossberg tonsillectomy.

As far as Heart, I can only base my opinion on their early work, which I like. Never heard anything past their 3rd or 4th LP. I like Heart fine, but Hall of Fame material? I don't know. I admit they're 100 times better than most of the crap in already...
I just don't see them up there with the greats...and that's what a Hall of Fame is all about.
But I can deal with them being touted in here. Just stop with the Belinda Carlisle/Go-Gos pics....PLEASE! Not a looker amongst them...and shit music to boot.
sorry sam, have to dis-agree with you on this one, Not a looker? I just saw the Go Go's live, and you must be gay if you think Belinda isnt hot. Jane too, TELL ME, Are you basing your opinions from back in the 80's when they were all plump and chubby?
DO this, Go to youtube, and watch the Go Go's live in central park, THEY ROCK!! watch them close the concert with the cover of the ramones classic, "I wanna be sedated" and tell me they arent a BONA-FIDE punk rock band!!! fuckin tell me!
after watching them do, "I wanna be sedated", I dare you to tell me they dont fuckin ROCK! I triple dog dare you to tell me they arent a punk rock band!!!

I think Belinda Carlisle got hotter a few years after she left the Go-Go's:
Especially starting around 3:10.
My Zysdale Belinda Carlisle story: My ship made a port visit at Portsmouth in the UK in September '88. Belinda Carlisle, who was touring the UK at the time, visited our ship. I missed her because the day she came was my liberty day, but one of my men was assigned as her official escort. Apparently, Belinda is much smaller than I would've thought in real life, no taller than 5'2" or 5'3".
That said, I'm voting a pretty solid NO on her being in the Rock 'n' Roll HOF. Sorry, Brad.

yeah, Im cool with her not getting in, but, she is soooo fuckin hot though!!
As for the Hall of fame? My rule of thumb is simple, Start at the top, Elvis, cash, berry, the beatles, the who, floyd, led zepp, the stones, of course im leaving out a lot here, BUT, the point being, you start at the very top of the pecking order, like I have, and slowly and with great painstaking care, work your way downward.
Which is what the Hall of fame did way back in 1986, the first legendary class, I forgot who all was in that "dream team" class, but I think it was all the essentials of course, Elvis, chuck, little richard, buddy holly, jerry lee, roy orbison, cash, the beatles, the stones, the who, Dylan, zeppelin, floyd, clapton, etc...
THEN, with due dilligence, work your way downward, careful not to fuck up and let barry manilow in, Manilow would go into the elevator music HALL. But, this way, the Hall wont get watered down.

congrats!!
my question is this?
so, say we beat ohio st. then michigan then the spartans then penn st. and run it.
does that mean we meet wisconsin again in the big ten title game?

Here are some groups/people I think are more deserving than the current nominees:
KISS
Rush
Alice Cooper
E.L.O.
Cheap Trick
Bad Company
Peter Frampton
Bon Jovi
Journey
Doobie Brothers
Joe Cocker
Steve Miller Band
The Cars
Jethro Tull
Thin Lizzy
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Devo
Willie Nelson
Replace Alice Cooper with Deep Purple and Yes, and maybe Foreigner, and that's a pretty decent list.
Triumph is another personal favorite for me. I think they have a large enough body of work, but maybe didn't stick around for a long enough period of time, chronologically speaking, to merit inclusion.

Martyred wrote:Same for the Beastie Boys. Some decent jams, but they innovated nothing.
I was never a huge Beastie Boys fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I gotta disagree with this.
First, while I didn't want to go to the race card, the Beasties were, if memory serves, the first white rappers to achieve an appreciable level of commercial success.
Second, you're forgetting about the rap/rock hybrid style that became the staple of a number of later acts, such as Linkin Park, P.O.D., Rage Against the Machine, etc. Yeah, one could argue that Run-DMC started that with their version of "Walk This Way," but the Beasties definitely took it to another level of popularity. They were ahead of their time in that regard.
Hell, a few acts that have received prominent run in this thread and were decidedly not in that genre have even experimented with that sound:

We should forward this sentence to the person who attempted to teach you English, to see if they have a stroke.
If a "redundancy" involves using two words that mean the same thing together to describe something, what do you call it when you use five?
Not two, not three... fucking five.
The problem with the Beastie Boys is that they didn't have a scrap of musical talent between them, got sued for every penny the had for stealing music (from a true R&R HoFer), and were offensive to the eardrums.
But if you're going to put them in because of their skin color (surprised to see this from Terry, of all people) in regards to "innovation," then House Of Pain goes in too, right?

Not exactly what I said.
The primary reason I said they had influence was because of the rap/rock hybrid. Yeah, they weren't really the first ones to do it, but they took it to a new level of popularity.
I also said I'm not a fan. For that matter, I wouldn't put a rap act into the R&RHOF, if it was strictly up to me, but it looks to me like that particular ship has sailed. I also agree with you on their lack of talent. That having been said, KISS didn't have a ton of talent, either, but they certainly had a ton of influence on later acts (including acts as diverse from themselves as Garth Brooks), so you have to give them serious consideration on that basis. Same argument for the Beastie Boys.
War Wagon wrote:The first time I click on one of your youtube links will be the first time.
Nah. The Beastie Boys just plain suck, on every level imaginable. Giving them credit for anything is akin to celebrating the culinary influence of the 'meat' in a Jack in the Box taco.
Not only that, but they're also responsible for the single worst guitar solo ever recorded...
Van wrote: The Beastie Boys just plain suck, on every level imaginable
Van, what were you doing when the cool kids were sneaking six packs into the woods to party around bonfires with their ghetto-blasters?
Let me guess...The Ramones suck too. Not enough guitar solos?
