way to go Rick Neuheisel
barring some kind of weird comeback, you are getting your ass handed to you by another team without a coach.
having your seen your snakeoil up close in Boulder, hooray for you. it was a good run.
20 of Rick's "all-time wins" are with top 5-10 McCartney's recruiting classes. I could have won games with those guys. 10 more are with the UW team he inherited to the Rose Bowl. there were stories all over Boulder about how some of Mac's players *literally* wanted to kick Rick's ass. and threatened him in the locker-room at halftime.
one of the biggest jokes in the world was that Rick was a "great evaluater" of QB talent. Koy Detmer and Marcus Tui. his awesome CU QB recruits were Drew Bledsow's brother (who sucked) and a guy named Taylor Barton who also sucked. there was also Jeremy Weisinger, a 4-5 star guy from Texas and ended up playing backup DB at ATM after he sucked at CU.
when Rick was at CU he liked being on camera. what you never saw, was Rick on campus or around town. as weird McCartney was....you saw Bill a lot on the Boulder Creek path.

I think it was more a matter of never getting a chance with Weasel.King Crimson wrote:Taylor Barton who also sucked.
That's the story I'm sticking to, anyway -- saw him play HS ball, and he was outfreakingstanding. Amazing arm for a HS QB (I think he had like 56 TD passes in a 9 game season at Beaverton High).
I got 99 problems but the 'vid ain't one
Re: way to go Rick Neuheisel
Oh, and BTW - tonight's matchup sounded a lot better in August than it does in October.

he may have been a great HS QB, but i saw the guy in person a few times at spring games and in a few starts before he got beat out by a juco named Mike Moschetti (who is an underrated player in CU history IMO).....i don't know.Dinsdale wrote:I think it was more a matter of never getting a chance with Weasel.King Crimson wrote:Taylor Barton who also sucked.

If this debacle DOESN'T get him fired immediately, it proves the school has given up on having any semblance of a football team, let alone any sort of dignity. I hope UA scores 100 tonight. Fuck Dan Guerrero.

Re: way to go Rick Neuheisel
i'd like to point out for clarity sake...that the 20 wins i refer two above are Rick's first 2 10 win seasons in Boulder. the second two i think he won 12 games. the slide was apparent...had a 5 win season in 1997, maybe won 7 in 1998. he won with McCartney's guys at CU. 32-33 of his total wins as a HC were at CU. He had some nice recruits that figured in Barnett's 2001 Big XII championship (but, that team was year 3 of Barnett and started Juco's at QB and RB), not a lot of depth after Mac's guys rotated through. for a QB "guru" kinda weird to see Barnett inherit a juco as his best QB.
edit: from a CU perspective, Rick also did this awesome thing that went unnoticed by many CU fans at the time. with his smarminess (and Cali disposition), he alienated two high profile Texas recuits: Jeremy Weisinger (mentioned above) and Ryan Nunez. CU had recruited Texas pretty well under McCartney....esp Houston. Alfred Williams, Kanavis McGee to name a couple. Weisinger transfers to ATM (and plays backup DB as i mention) and Nunez has a nice 2nd career at UT.
Texas is down, OU is down...and Rick is blowing CU's presence in Texas.....mid 90's. Nunez and Weisinger were big time recruits before "Scout" and "Rivals".....you don't think the "Texas boys don't like it up there....in liberal hippy Boulder...was used against CU on the recruiting trail and southern baptist HS coaches around Texas.

sure he wanted Dorrell fired. Dorell sucked. weird thing is that firing Dorrell to hire Neu is like hating Clinton and hiring Gore.M2 wrote:The Seer wrote:If this debacle DOESN'T get him fired immediately, it proves the school has given up on having any semblance of a football team, let alone any sort of dignity. It's sad because they can't get anyone this bad again.

Any chance he'll last long enough for the Buffs to exact a little revenge? We'll have Richardson back by then, and possibly Speedy...

I was never optimistic about Skippy to begin with but as soon as I saw that I knew they were screwed. Putting that crap up is like being on a season's worth of Sports Illustrated covers.

It's kinda crazy... but it seems like most QBs recruited to D1 schools were pretty good HS QBs... funny how that works.
It's possible that Barton was a "system QB" in HS... the "system" being that Beaverton's O-line outweighed every oppnent's D-line by about a half-ton. IIRC, one of them even died, his brother stepped in, and the whole line went apeshit on everyone. And they still managed to lose in the championship game (hehehehehe... they were our archrival).
I'm just getting nostalgic, I guess -- I used to work across the street from their practice field, and saw him scrimmaging all fall.

Because UCLA was foolhardy enough to run that ad in the LA Times, this will never stop being funny...
