Bielema doesn't call the plays, BTW. The OC does. Paul Chryst also called for a pass well into the second half against Oregon State this year. Chryst and Riley are homies. After the play, Bielema told Chryst that he would have to explain that call to Riley.buckeye_in_sc wrote:Revenge game for sure...Brett being the redass he is will run that shit up...
I expect a tough defensive matchup, the first real test for the offense this year. Wisky's offense has shown a tendency to start slow in the first and third quarters. I don't like the idea of getting behind against MSU. That could be tough sledding, MSU defense is for real. But it's time for payback. The players all felt like the MSU loss last year stung a lot more than the Rose Bowl.

Re: Sparty v Bucky
I agree with Goobs in that this one will be *relatively* low scoring. Wisconsin ain't gonna roll up 50+ points this time around.
Can't wait to watch the MSU d-line vs UW o-line battle. I'm definitely concerned with the looming suspension of Gholston at DE, but they have a couple of serviceable backups.
Big question for me is, will MSU be able to run the ball? I think it's as simple as that. If they can, they will stay in the game and have a chance to win. If they can't, it's over. They pushed around the Wisky front 7 last year, and dominated the TOP. Problem is, it's a much newer o-line this year, which has taken quite a bit of time to gel. I'd say it's matriculated from god awful to mediocre. 167 yard rushing day for Baker against Michigan, which was nice to see.
I also think this being the first true road game for UW is a bigger deal than some think. Primetime, under the lights, Gameday on campus, crowd will be obliterated, etc. All that will account for something. It almost always does.
Kinda tough for me to get a good feel for how this one will play out, so I'll homer it up.
MSU 27
Wisconsin 24
Also, what is the status of Nick Toon?

Re: Sparty v Bucky
This is the Big 10 game of the week and I'm looking forward to seeing the great Wisconsin offense go up against a very good MSU defense. Wisconsin has a pretty average defense going against a pretty average Sparty offense, so this game may hinge on turnovers, forced or unforced. I'm taking Wisconsin in this one but the I"m hoping that the Sparty D playing at home will make it a good one to watch.

Re: Sparty v Bucky
Sparty lights hair on fire with special teams, it will be interesting how Russell Wilson and the offense respond in the second half. First time with pressure on him and Wisconsin...good game so far, will be fun down the stretch. Winner is the team to beat in the B1G. Sorry Penn St.
Re: Sparty v Bucky
Russell Wilson had better be able to hit the curve because, while he's a very good QB, he's not an elite one, and doesn't belong in any Heisman conversations, imo. Andrew Luck he ain't.
Re: Sparty v Bucky
Uh oh, Badgers. You're fucked....29-17.
Re: Sparty v Bucky
Funny what happens when they face a real defense and their special teams fuck them.Papa Willie wrote:Wiscy - overrated.
Re: Sparty v Bucky
Looks like I might have been a little premature in announcing the death of the Badgers. Still trailing by 7 but there's lots of time left on the clock. Spartans need a few first downs on this drive.
Re: Sparty v Bucky
Props to the Badgers for battling back to tie the game. We'll see what Sparty can do in the final 1:26, or if maybe we're headed for OT. This has been a great game by both teams.....just what I'd hoped for.

Props to both teams for a great game and congrats to the Spartans for a hell of a finish. A little luck never hurts.

Biliema really screwed the pooch calling those timeouts. It's the end of the game, if MSU scores they win, the last thing you do is something that increases the opportunity for them to score. You can't assume you'll make the stop, let the clock burn. If you can get MSU to where they have to punt then you can call a TO.

I love those camera shots of Bielema after bad Wisky plays. Dude is the epitome of a meat head. But hey I guess he gets all those "good" players because he plays XBOX with them on recruiting visits, so who gives a fuck? He could use a little less hair product in his hair before games, too, but whatever.

Excellent game, props to Sparty. That is one nasty defense. Our special teams were a fucking disaster. Wilson made a couple of mistakes, but did a nice job of bringing them back. I didn't agree with Bielema's decision to call the timeouts, but he felt they could get the ball back and win in regulation. They lost on a video replay of a hail Mary, so I can't fault him too much for that, though they would have had good momentum going to OT.
It's not the end of the world. They can replicate last year by winning out, beating MSU in the championship game, and (once again) going to the Rose Bowl at Sparty's expense. On Wisconsin.

Re: Sparty v Bucky
Don't want to be a prisoner of the moment, but this one is tough to top. Basically ANY win over Michigan is pure joy (when they suck and when they're good, equally), and last year's ND game (fake field goal in OT) will be an all-time classic as well, but that win didn't mean as much as this one. This one was huge for a variety of reasons:Van wrote:Congrats, Mgo. So where does this rank among your greatest Sparty football moments? Does it surpass the 2001 Michigan game?
-Very few people gave MSU any chance to cover the spread, let alone win outright.
-All week long I listened to the media and opposing fans trash MSU as a dirty, undisciplined program, and they go out and register a total of ZERO penalties. Not a one.
-It was competitive, yet quality football. While the win over, say, Ohio State was nice, it was painful at times to watch a "competitive" game that was largely a product of inept offense. In this game, pretty much all of the units on the field (save for Wisky's special teams) were operating at a pretty high level.
-The scene and the atmosphere. I just regret not buying tickets, when I gave it some serious thought a while back.
-MSU/Wisconsin is quietly developing into a nice little rivalry. It mostly stems from basketball, but is carrying over into football.
-Roller coaster of emotions. Both teams held a 14 point lead at one point, and yet the game was tied in the final minute.
-The hail marry.
But I must admit, I thought the game was over when Wisky got up to an early 14-0 lead. I thought it was going to be last year's Iowa game all over again. Early on it looked like UW's offensive line was going to be too much for MSU, especially since MSU's best DE and best pass rusher was suspended. Don't think Gholston would've made much of a difference though. That Badger o-line is ridiculous. 6'6" 700 lb gorillas who can pull and get down field. Egads.
Fortunately MSU was able to penetrate that line a little bit and force Wilson into some bad decisions. And of course, special teams came up huge. A blocked FG and a blocked punt for a TD. Cousins also had a very nice game, as did all the receivers. The running game was serviceable.
Just a great game all-around. And though I think Bielema is a disingenuous asshat, I do enjoy watching his teams play.

Eh, I dunno. MSU goes to Lincoln next week, which would put NU in the driver's seat for the Cash Grab game in Indy if the Huskers can hold serve at home, which they're kinda good at doing. I know the fightin' bradhuskers are no great shakes this year, but MSU simply doesn't play very well on the road in big games. From an Xs and Os standpoint, I think they should win the game, but I'm not sure how much this team has left in the tank. Tough and emotional wins over OSU, Michigan and Wisky consecutively and now Nebraska on the road. I fear a letdown is looming. Hope I'm wrong. I'm just glad it's a noon game.Papa Willie wrote:I don't think the B10CG will be anything but Wiscy/Sparty.

Eastern could end up bowl eligible this year. Holy fucking Christ. Of course, if they do get selected for a bowl, taxpayers and students will certainly take a bath as NOBODY will be buying tickets for the roadie, even if it is the Pizza Pizza Bowl.
Looks like Ron, Tyrone and Little Brother know what they are doing. Props to Eastern.
