Thanksgiving Eve
Sure, there's Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. But nobody ever talks about Independence Day Eve, Labor Day Eve, MLK Day Eve, or more pertinently, Thanksgiving Eve. The reason, of course, is quite obvious. Santa Claus (and more importantly 'round these parts, his reindeer) make their rounds on Christmas Eve, and New Year's Eve is the last day of the year. But there's no significance or special events that mark the day before Thanksgiving or most other holidays that merit their distinction as observed "Eves."
I intend to change that, at least for this one day of the year. OK, maybe for this one day of only this one year, depending on how it goes. You see, even MY life isn't so uneventful and devoid of meaning that I would do an interwebs radio broadcast on Thanksgiving Day. But it IS meaningless enough to allow me to do one the night before. And my hope is that it will be so overwhelming, so awesome, so RACKable, that the world will take notice and DEMAND that it become an annual tradition worthy of making the night of its occurrence a bona fide Eve.
Thanksgiving is a day to celebrate with family and friends and, as its name implies, to give thanks. It's traditionally a day of eating too much, drinking too much, and watching football. It's a day to remember the Pilgrims who landed at Plymouth Rock, the country from which they came, and the Native Americans who greeted them upon their arrival. There's a big parade in NYC to celebrate the day complete with floats and annoying TV emcees. It's also a celebration of the fall harvest, and the one day of the year when the 18-minute version of Alice's Restaurant is played on FM stations.
All this and more will be musically commemorated in tonight's (hopefully) 1st Annual Thanksgiving Eve in TuneTown Smackstravaganza. Surely, you DON'T wanna be THAT GUY who misses it, so be sure that while you're preparing for the big day tomorrow, you tune in tonight so that you, too, can take part in the conversation everyone else will be having about it for days and weeks afterward.
Set your alarm and join me tonight beginning around 9:07 EST in TuneTown. You'll be grateful that you did.

I'm pretty sure the tradition on Thanksgiving Eve is to hit up your local bars and get shitfaced. Perhaps we can name it after trev or something.Smackie Chan wrote:But there's no significance or special events that mark the day before Thanksgiving or most other holidays that merit their distinction as observed "Eves."

Can't see youtube from work, so I don't know what you posted.
But, from what I hear, it should come out best if you just drop it in the fryer when it's still frozen.

Doesn't everyone get shit-faced drunk the night before the turkey feast? I'll be dropping by.
Re: Thanksgiving Eve
Was on my way to my dad's about ten years ago when I saw a big flame behind a six foot fence, so I stopped and peeked over to take a look see. Yeah, it was a huge fucking flame that caught the over hang of the patio. That dude was about to burn his entire house down. I hopped over the fence and helped him get control of the flames. After everything was calmed down and the firemen arrived, I turned and asked him if the turkey was frozen when he put in the fire. He said with a straight face, "Yeah, but what does that have to do with the oil bursting into flames?" I should've let his house burn to the ground.Mikey wrote: Can't see youtube from work, so I don't know what you posted.

Scotty, not sure you've brined your turkey yet, but this is what I used for mine tonight:
32 cups of warm water
1 1/2 cups of brown sugar
2 tablespoons fresh garlic
2 tablespoons of crushed black pepper
1 cup of salt
1 1/2 teaspoons of cayenne pepper
2 tablespoons of wocestershire sauce
pinch of thyme
Stir the salt, cayenne, garlic, thyme, and pepper until the salt and sugar dissolves. Place turkey in the pot and then add the worcestershire. Put in fridge for the night.

When I roast it I'll stuff it with 2 or 3 lemons that I've perforated along with the "aromatics".
I must have about 75 perfectly ripe Meyer lemons hanging on my "dwarf" tree right now.
Re: Thanksgiving Eve
My lemon tree was producing upwards of two-hundred lemons per year, but back to back hard freezes the past two years pretty much ruined that. I mean, I did cover the lemons tree with a sheet, but the low ambient temps still damaged it pretty good. I had no lemons last year, so I was beginning to think she was never going to reproduce again. But to my surprise, I walked outside to scoop up some of my dog's bradhuskers and noticed three little lemons hanging in the back. They're about half the size of the previous lemons, but I'm just happy I've got lemons again.Mikey wrote:I must have about 75 perfectly ripe Meyer lemons hanging on my "dwarf" tree right now.
Yay me!

Re: Thanksgiving Eve
This tree that I have produces basically year round, only sometimes having no fruit on it at all. It's nice to be able to walk out the back door and pick a few right off the tree when you need some lemon juice, lemon zest or some slices whenever you need it.
Just found this article (100 things to do with Meyer lemons), which I'm savings and will start working my way through.

Well, this is the new T1B tradition. Smackie said it, it must be so... yeah, I'm like a Tune Town groupie.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:I'm pretty sure the tradition on Thanksgiving Eve is to hit up your local bars and get shitfaced.
Besides, this place is as close to a bar as I get nowadays. When you're pushing 50, you'll understand.
First round is on me.

I'm stuck in the office, waiting for my son who's coming into the train station near here in 45 minutes. He missed the earlier train (the connecting bus was late) and it would be an hour and a half round trip to go home and back. Pretty fuckin' eerie sitting here with everybody else gone home.

Re: Thanksgiving Eve
I'm half-Mexican -- get used to it 'cause in about five to 10 years, you're all gonna be related to one. Whether you like it or not, no matter how much you prepared your family, you're gonna show up at Thanksgiving one of these years, you're gonna walk in and say, 'Hey! What's happening? Since when did we start serving flan?' Well, what's happening is that somebody's boning a Latina.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:You should totally bone the Mexican janitor ladies that come in after hours.Mikey wrote:I'm stuck in the office, waiting for my son who's coming into the train station near here in 45 minutes. Ok, that's not my mine, but it seemed an appropriate reset.
