Les has lots of QBs.
Does he have any that can throw a forward pass?

I feel bad for the kid. His decision prolly means he will end up not meeting his potential. Seems to be the way of the ND QBs for the last decade or so.

As opposed to those QBs who went to LSU and made the most of their potential?

How so? The last four QB's to start at least one full season for ND all wound up in the NFL (although two of them played WR in the NFL).

Kiel's biggest problem at ND could be playing time. People are excited about Hendrix' potential, and I've also heard a lot of good things about Golson in practice. And Rees is the incumbent starter (although he has the least athleticism of the four, I would expect that he'll transfer before the start of next season). And both Hendrix and Golson are eligible to return for fifth seasons. I would expect Kiel to sit out this year, to preserve the same eligibility.

Good get for ND, in any event. He's the #1 QB prospect in the nation, from what I gather. He's also the biggest prospect out of Indiana that I recall at least since Jeff George, and more importantly (from ND's perspective if not Schmick's) he's a legacy of sorts -- his uncle, Blair Kiel, played QB for ND in the early 80's.

Exactly. Talent was there, but it didn't lead to much on the field, at least by most ND standards.

Wait a minute. First you said it prolly means Kiel will end up not meeting his potential. Now you're saying the team isn't living up to its potential. So which is it?
Papa Willie wrote:Just think. We'll see ND in the #2 spot in the pre-season polls. Then after going 3-9, they'll still be in 10th place. Weird how that works.
Anyone who would base their ranking of ND next year on the fact that Kiel signed a LOI is a moron, plain and simple. As I said earlier, I don't expect him to see the field at all next season, short of the bottom falling out.

As for 3-9, I'm not too worried about that. 5-7, 6-6, 7-5, maybe. Not 3-9. We've only failed to win five or more games in a season once since 1964, and that was a perfect storm type year, as Killian has mentioned. Yeah, five wins per year doesn't sound like a real high bar, but if you look at the period from 1964-2006, among BTPCF programs only ND and Nebraska managed to meet it every season.

Sarcasm, Terry...sarcasm. You don't need to be literal when the guy was obviously exaggerating to make a point.

Wow that one must have really hitnclose to home to get that kind of response. Just a throw away line and pow!

Football is still a team sport right? So potential in my book for QBs is all about leading your team. There has been plenty of talent at ND at the QB position, but it still hasn't gotten the team where they want to be. Now granted I am making an assumption that where they want to be is competing for a national title. If that is not the case then let me know.
