Unfortunately this walking, breathing mass of gelatin won't be fired or relieved of his coaching duties till the end of the season. He is EASILY, the most overrated coach in the history of the NFL. A winning record, division titles, playoff wins and a Super Bowl appearance and yet he still can't recognize when he's beat and to get the hell out of DC without any major injuries.. oh wait.LANDOVER, Md. - LeSean McCoy sustained a concussion in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter of the Eagles' 31-6 loss to the Redskins on Sunday.
The Eagles trailed by 25 points after the two-minute warning when a running play was called for McCoy. After the game, coach Andy Reid defended keeping McCoy in the game despite the lopsided score.
"We were trying to catch up and win the game," Reid said.

..because when you're down 25 points with under 2 minutes to go, the way to amount a miracle comeback is to run the ball..

The Eagles were so bad yesterday they reminded me of the Lions when at their most pathetic.
Though I have to admit, both sides were pretty bad. It was a horribly played game, the Eagles are just so brutal they even make a sack full of shit like the Skins look amazing.

Translation: Dynasties don't exist anymore so no teams are "great." The fact is Reid's teams have been mediocre to crappy over the last few years, this is just the final nail in the coffin.Sudden Sam wrote:NFL, your goal of mediocrity across the board has been achieved. Congrats.

Houston, Chicago, San Fran, Atlanta and New England are all "really good" teams. Perhaps one or more is a great team. We'll find out.
It's not realistic to expect the "great" teams today to go 16-0 and beat everybody by 20+ points in the process. You're going to have a loss or two or a scabdick win vs a bad team. There's a lot more talent in the league today than 30 years ago, simply because there's more talent in the college game, the pool in which the league draws its players from.

I don't sense mediocrity at all. In the case with the Eagles I sense a franchise that handcuffed itself to a coach that has never evolved or been able to adapt to the loss of a defensive coordinator that saved his ass for over 10 years.Sudden Sam wrote:The best NFl teams aren't all that good any more.

The salary cap is the greatest deterrent to dynasties in the NFL.

True. I just hate how reactionary everybody is. I blame ESPN. An 8-0 team goes from unstoppable juggernaut to OH MY GAWD, THEY'RE SO OVERRATED. THERE ARE NO GOOD TEAMS! Jesus. It's pro sports. Teams are going to lose games. The "bad" teams in the NFL and every other professional league can rise up on any given day and win.mvscal wrote:The so called "great teams of yesteryear" never did either.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:It's not realistic to expect the "great" teams today to go 16-0 and beat everybody by 20+ points in the process.

Neither were the 72 Dolphins. They scabdicked their way through the weakest schedule in the league. They faced only two teams which finished the season over .500 and both of them were only a single game over that mark.Sudden Sam wrote: At 8-0, Atlanta wasn't a really good team. Your take is completely idiotic and I seriously doubt you have ever watched professional football for any length of time.

Those teams have millionaire athletes too. Why do you think anything over 10 points is considered a huge spread in the NFL? Because it's hard to blow teams out, even bad/mediocre ones.Sudden Sam wrote:It's not that. At 8-0, Atlanta wasn't a really good team. Barely beat the Cowboys, Redskins, Panthers, and Raiders. '85 Bears were pretty damned good - until everybody figured out the 46 in the next couple of years.
Mid-late 70's Steelers were some SERIOUS shit. So were the 80's 49ers.

Re: Andy Reid
Nobody "figured out" anything. It's still in use today as a situational formation. Here's pic from week one showing the 'Boys in a hybridized 46 look. It's primarily a run defense as it only leaves three is coverage and you need corners who can play man. The Giants ran left on this play for no gain.Papa Willie wrote: until everybody figured out the 46 in the next couple of years.

Re: Andy Reid
Wrong. The DEs line up over the tackles in a standard 3-4 with the inside backers off the line over the guards. It's a slightly modified 46 look with the DEs lined up in the B gaps instead of directly over the guards and the Mike cheating over to the strong side.KC Scott wrote:^^^ Cowboys are in their standard 3-4
Who is Cowboys D coordinator again? Some guy named Ryan I think.

Your mind-boggling stupidity just blows my mind how you are able to function in real life. Yeah, football's version of the reserve clause where teams were able to stock up and outspend others on talent made for a real entertaining league. I guess a simple minded fuckstain like yourself would be more entertained by a league where the "great" teams can take weeks off and still kill the opposition and only four teams were serious contenders. Me? I prefer a league where almost every game is down to the wire. I like unpredictability. You like being spoonfed entertainment. Kind of like your wives.Sudden Sam wrote: That's why they were a great defense. The offense had stars everywhere, too.
Not a team in the NFL now that has that many great players on defense.
I guess that's what happens when you grew up watching mongoloids like Bear hoard talent by offer a scholly to every Sam Dick and Bob with two testicles with 140 schollys at his disposal. Bear wouldn't have won shit in the era of scholarship limits.

Re: Andy Reid
And there-in is the problem, Sam. The NFL is not void of talent, it's void of good coaches. (See how I circled this back to Andy Reid). Over the past 5 years or so, Andy Reid has lost some of his best coordinators and hasn't been able to replace them with the same level of coaching. And as much talent as there is in the NFL, teams like the Eagles have made some serious gambles on some of their draft picks and it's hurt them. That's not the salary cap impacting this team (they're at least $10mm under the cap this year, maybe more) that's bad talent evaluation and coaching. And teams like the Eagles and Charges have been reluctant to make coaching changes for whatever reason when in reality a new coach was needed in Philly 5 years ago.Sudden Sam wrote:Wrong on every point.Screw_Michigan wrote:Your mind-boggling stupidity just blows my mind how you are able to function in real life. You want mediocrity. That's fine. Sit back and watch a bunch of shitty teams if that's what you enjoy. I understand your point about close games and everyone having a chance to win, but you can have that crap. I wanna see a well-coached team with good players at most every position dominate a lesser team. There have always been enough mediocre and bad teams to have your evenly matched games.
Good coaching can win with lesser players. Just as Bear did with his little bitty scrawny kids agaiinst bigger teams from other conferences. He won because he was smarter (football smarts) than his opponents.

Are you arguing for the sake of arguing or do you just not know what the fuck you're talking about? You said they are lined up in the standard 3-4. They aren't. Period. Full stop. Of course they didn't overload the weakside. They are anticipating a strong side run.KC Scott wrote:The D adjusted to the formation -mvscal wrote:Wrong.
