Substitute the words football for racing and players for creatures and you have the reason why I am nowhere near as passionate about the game of football as I used to be. But at least football players are willing participants.

Wait you want me to feel bad about guys making a cash grab today because they were unsuccessful in life outside of football?

Sorry that isn't going to happen. Show me one example of a player saying I don't think I can play and a team forcing him out onto the field against his will.

Football was far more dangerous back in the day, yet guys still played for damn near nothing. There is this thing called ego and celebrity that most were drunk on.

Jay, I'm not as good or effusive a writer as you so don't take this as an insult:

You're as relentless as a toilet with a handle that's stuck. You won't. fucking. stop... running your mouth, essentially saying the same thing over and over. Look, I GET YOUR POINT, ok?

I said I enjoy horse racing and the chance to watch history being made. Somehow you construed that as I'm "passionate" about it. Not so much. I enjoy gambling (and winning) and the handicapping aspect that goes along with it. No doubt I've lost more than I've won.

I posted an innocent enough thread about a potential Triple Crown winner who once again failed, now I'm a horse killer. I can't control or change what happens in this industry and won't try to. I'm a spectator, not a rule maker.

But I was sad when Barbaro broke down. My wife won't even watch a race since she saw that.

I would imagine that a decent number of you who post here were paste eaters back in the day.

You can admit it here in this safe place among friends.

Jay can jiggle his own handle. This should do it.

You're right Wags, in that I'll often beat that dead horse silly, so to speak. :deadhorse:

That said, I really don't care about horse racing. I care about the humane treatment of animals, to a realistic point, but I think PETA people are freaks. The only reason I kept hammering is that you kept deflecting. Not saying you approve of killing potential dog food supplies, I was just commenting on your affection for racing but apathy toward the creatures that entertain you. Cows and chickens and pigs, etc., are clothing, food and footballs. Horses are a somewhat different deal, as we rely on them for work and sport and often, love. Not to get mushy here, but the human dichotomy with horses goes back to the beginning of history. So they should be treated better than they often are.

That's all.
