Tonight's show was rather bittersweet in that it was dedicated to a childhood friend of mine, Randy, who passed away unexpectedly this week, and his widow, brother, and daughters all dropped into the 'Town to get their spirits lifted. The regulars in attendance did a great job of making them feel welcome and helping them forget about their sorrow for a few hours - thanks to all for that. Nice crowd, too: mamamustanger, Wolfman, Barflie, Go Coogs, War Wagon, 88, smackaholic, Diego in Seattle, Moving Sale, Jsc810, m2, and Randy's family - Donna (his widow), Scott (brother), & Carrie, Nicole, & Ashlei (daughters).

Fuckin'A -- if I knew there was significance, I would have made an effort to tune in. As maudlin as it sounds, little things mean a lot to grieving people (after I mentioned my Father' passing on this board, I was surprised by the PM's I received, which didn't suck... empathy goes a long way).

But I was balls-deep in a new skank. I hope Van still checks in, because... I'M BACK! Stories to follow.

Apparently so. I spoke to Randy's brother, Scott, yesterday, and he said his nieces (Randy's daughters) were so moved and had so much fun during the show that they now realize they'll be able to move forward after their loss. I kinda thought Scott was exaggerating the effect a stupid little Web-based music show could have on people trying to cope with grief. But you sort of reinforced what Scott said, and it wasn't so much what he said, but the sincerity and feeling that was evident in his voice that makes me now think he may not have been exaggerating. Even stranger is the fact that I'd never met or spoken to his daughters; his oldest was an infant last time I saw Randy, and I only spoke briefly to one of his other daughters a few hours before the show to instruct her how to access it. They're now saying they intend to tune in regularly and may register on the board, although I fear doing so could undo whatever positive feelings the show may have given them. But if they're anything like their old man, they'll be thick-skinned enough to handle it.

Thanks for posting that.

Wasn't aware Fridays show was also a friend's post wake get together.

Good on you, smackie, for doing such a thing. You really are a genuine good dude. The world needs more, so don't go unexpectedly punching out on us or nothing.

BTW, I have been kind of scarce around here as of late, so the spreadsheet is even more fuct than usualm. Are you still planning on making an honest woman out of mamamustanger soon? I trust there will be a T1B radio reception afterwards. maybe we can get the decider story spring for an open bar.

If Tune Town is plugged in for tonight, I'll be in early. If Smackie is still AWOL, I can play some tuneage till I get tired.
If the show is on, a request: Runaway by SELF. Be there or be somewhere else.

Figured "Turn to Stone" was a suitable alternative for last night. Scott (not KC) said he'll be in next week, so I'll play it then.

Great set, #47 was off the chart. First time I've ever made it from start to finish but that was aided by the Royals playing yet another 11 inning game.

Rumors of there being no show tonight have been greatly exaggerated (even if they were started by yours truly). I'll play for a couple hours or so if'n anyone wants to tune in.
