Sears and A & E appliance

Post by trev »

I had our fridge fixed by a nice guy from Sears. He was very well mannered and even fixed a few little things for free, since he had a co-worker with him he was training. He was explaining lots of things to the trainee and it was pretty interesting. He talked me into buying a one year contract for the stove, since the computer panel was dying. For $99 bucks I could have a new part that would cost over $400 parts and labor. I waited 3 months and called for my free service. They sent a complete weirdo from A & E appliance repair. The guy looked like a serial killer from a 50's movie and had on these kind of glasses.

Anyhow, from the moment he called to say he was on his way, I felt uncomfortable. He mumbled in a grouchy tone on the phone. He arrived and I felt pretty skeeved out by his rudeness, mumbling and flat out utter uselessness and inability to answer the simplest question or respond in a normal manner. I'm convinced this guy was either a creeper or autistic??????? Not sure. He said he had to order a part and when would I like to get the appointment when the part came in. Luckily he didn't stay long. But then, about an hour later my doorbell rings. I'm not expecting anyone, so I normally wouldn't answer. I looked out the window and saw his van. I opened the door, and he said....." I forgot my pen." He was kinda pissed and he loaned it to me to sign. I should have used my own pen, in hindsight. He said, "It's my only pen." He came in, got his pen and left. Who does that?????????

The next day I called Sears to change my appointment and tell them I don't want this guy back at my house. They didn't ask why, so I left it at that. I just hope he doesn't find out I banned him from my place.

Anyhow, I went on YELP and this A & E appliance repair has a ton of bad reviews.

Nice job not telling Sears so this serial rapist can go on making women uncomfortable in their own homes. Your first clue might have been him returning for his "only pen".

Learn to trust your spidey sense if the dude makes you uncomfortable or be willing to take what he dishes out when he comes back at 1 am in the morning. Don;t really matter you "banned" him from your place, he still knows where you live and a lot more about you than you think.

Seriously? You're not going to offer to come over and stay with trev for the foreseeable future? Sounds like someone needs a little blue pill.

A&E Factory Service, from what I understand, is owned by Sears and covers warranty service for Sears, Kitchenaid, Whirlpool, Frigidaire, Maytag, Jenn-Air, Magic Chef, Amama, etc., etc. appliances nationally. They're known for horrible customer service, incompetent techs and doing everything they possibly can to avoid actually honoring the warranties. Good luck if you ever need to get an appliance fixed. You're often better off tossing the warranty and getting somebody who actually knows what they're doing.

We bought at high-end (Miele) dishwasher about five years ago when we had our kitchen remodeled. It was a little pricey but it works better and has been more dependable than any dishwasher I've ever had. Most moving parts are stainless steel instead of plastic. The one time we got an error code on the board they sent out a factory technician (in a Miele van), who wore little white booties over his shoes when he came in the house, and had it fixed in about 30 minutes.

When the board on our Kitchenaid convection oven fried, it was a somewhat different story. We had to call A&E...

That's a terrible idea. In fact, the worst idea I've ever heard...ever.

Sears sucks. I will never fall for this scam again. How do they even make money from these warranties?

I've never been to a shooting range or shot a gun, but I'm on board with it now.

Creepy at the least. Sear's repairs and service hit the skids years ago. Back in the early 70's I bought several Sear's appliances. The repair guy lived down the street from me and we had excellent service. One time he came to fix our fridge on a Sunday. Forget when it happened. He had retired and service techs came from Binghamton, 45 miles aways. Had to call an 800 number, not Mr. Walsh.
