10 years ago NSW the state where I live was experiencing the worst drought in 100 years, it was so bad that the were actually looking at closing down some of the worst effected towns & building desalination plants to create drinking water as we were about to run out, but now we are experiencing the storms of the century and we look like this http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... beach.html http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... ately.html

BTW I have cut down on watering my lawn to every third night but if it starts to go brown I am going back to every other night
Your lawn isn't very healthy if you have to water every other night. That or your over watering has led to extremely shallow root growth, which requires frequent watering.
Lawns here are lucky to get once a week watering. But even with that once a week watering the grass is a dark green and nice and full. Check in with Derron for some help. Wait check that; this board is made up of experts in every subject and you will get 20 "expert" opinions in short order.

But the frequent short watering you do doesn't promote root growth. I tend to water once a week for 1hour per section.
But like I said the experts will be along shortly.
Hey, the Bay Area is going to be fine. The Hetch Hetchy reservoir levels are at 90%. Isn't that wonderful? Oh, on a new note, the Delta Smelt are officially extinct. Not that really matters as they were over rated sardines.

I'll see your almonds and raise you rice. In California's rice industry, it takes 4000 liters of water to produce one kilo of rice. You can do the metric conversion on your own.

So raising food to feed your staving masses is a bad thing?

Alfalfa, which is largely shipped to China, uses more water in California than almonds and rice combined.
Hey missjo, just curious if you've ever had gallip nuts? Had them all the time in New Guinea. Thought they were excellent. Surprised they never became a big export.

Speaking of alfalfa, you can't buy it here. The sprouts. I love them on salads and sandwiches. Most every store has stopped selling them due to salmonella.

If you want good salmonella, one word. U&L.

Only place you can get it FUCKING FRESH!
Can't say I've seen alfalfa sprouts in a while. Still see bean sprouts everywhere. Can't imagine it'd be too hard to grow them, though.
