I'm right here with Wags on Moon. The best drummer ever. No. But one of the single most energetic and enthusiastic drummers ever, yes. Plus, one of the most fun to watch. There is a reason the Rolling Stones didn't originally broadcast this episode of Rock and Roll Circus, their own show. The Who simply blew them off stage.

Perhaps the strangest thing of that R&R Circus - was Tony Iommi playing with Jethro Tull. He only played with them for about 2-3 weeks...

I remember that PW. One odd thing about that clip I have never been able to figure out or have answered. Any idea what the glittery, watery looking stuff splashing up off of his cymbals toward the end was? Or how he got it there at that point? Cool effect whatever it is.

The best thing about that video is Moon, the la la la la, and Peter Townshend strumming are elementary. I know this thread isn't about who is the best drummer, & certainly Moon was excellent.....

....but the idea of Cream, was to make up a band with the best musicians of the time. Clapton was thought of as the best guitarist until Jimmy Hendrix came along. Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker were also very highly regarded, Baker in particular by Hendrix.

Here's another, Michael Shrieve, then of Santana. The percussion set them apart as much as Carlos guitar (which improved over time).

Moon didn't care about time, he made his own up. Bonham had more discipline. I'll guess that Bonham had his epiphany watching Joe Morello in 1963 and Moon worshipped Krupa.

btw, The Who were supposed to play here tonight but had to postpone the show because Daltry lost his voice.

Go figure.

Hollywood came out with a movie about old rock n rollers stil on tour, I believe it was called night of the living dead.

Moon was the worst kind of guy to drink with. He was utterly unpredictable and undependable. Seriously, how many people have run over their own chauffeur? If I'm getting buzzed to the gills, I want people I can trust not to kill me drinking with me.

Not really, just making a few observations/cracks. I did watch the 2nd Krupa video in its entirety, found it interesting and picked up a little more history. For me, its good stuff.

Gene Krupa was the out of control rock drummer 20 years before rock was invented. Dude was getting busted for dope smoking in the 40s.
