No, it did not. In fact, he made an effort to get hit by a floating slider that even you would be agile enough to get out of the way of. The twat succeeded and got away with it. It may not happen as soon as it should, but sooner or later that bitch is going to get paid back.

The fact he did it with 2 strikes and 2 outs with a perfect game on the line only exacerbates the offense. It would be a chickenshit move under any circumstance. You want to get on base? Take that pitch and hit the next (it was a 2-2 count at the time) or take a walk.

This is how I see it. It's not like it was a 9-0 game and he went up to the plate with the intention of getting beaned just to fuck up the perfect game. It was still a game and it happened "in the moment" of the play. Scherzer himself admitted he missed his location and paid the price.

Scherzer threw a slider inside that didn't break. Tabata didn't do everything he could to get out of the way, but a batter's first move is toward home plate when stepping and swinging. He probably thought that ball was going to eventually dive back towards home plate, but it never did. You can blame Tabata all you want, but Scherzer's pitch was inside quite a bit. If you want to pitch a perfect game, don't throw an inside slider that never breaks.

I remember watching a monday night game, back in the late 70s. Nolan Ryan had a no hitter going against the yanks. 8th inning, angels were comfortably ahead and reggie comes to bat. Reggie usually comes out of his shoes every swing, but, he just wanted to get it over with and let Nolan toss another no hitter on the heap. So, he gives the most lackluster slappy swing you ever saw and, of course dribbles one through a hole in the infield. You could see the look on Reggie's face. He was truely sorry he fukked up the no hitter.

As for todays up armored dudes taking a pitch that is a little tight off their battle armor, I think they need to change the rules. Catch one in the back, yeah, you earned your base, but if you can't lift your elbows, fukk off.
