Sleeping Bear Dunes PET

Spent some time up in the Sleeping Bear Dunes area in Northern Michigan this weekend. Much of the time during the day was spent biking and hiking. Some pics:

Bike

Came upon this small boat museum along the path. Fisherman boats from late 1800s/early 1900s.

Old commercial fisherman tools.

On to the hike. The trails go through the forest and out to Lake Michigan.

Begin ascent up one of the dunes.

On top of dune, looking east toward forest.

Views from the top.

Time to go down the other side and down to the lake.

Something(s) had a nice meal.

Back in town at the local watering hole. I love when bars deck the place out with college stuff.

Nice pics, magooo. How high are those dunes? Look to be at least 300-400 ft. Not what I would call little. BTW, I have been to the dunes in the U&L. They were pretty cool as well. Maybe more of them, but, I doubt they were taller.

I would say most are at least 400 feet. A cell phone camera doesn't do them justice. They are definitely taller than they look.

Really, the whole area is just awesome. Clean, crisp air, fresh aqua water, quiet and peaceful.

Just brutal.

Reminds me of "Sebastian Inlet" in the summer... without the waves, hot chicks, and the lack of civilization within 300 miles.

Those things in the background... aren't birds (they're mosquitoes and horseflies).

Nothing says fun... like camping out at night and having to wrap up your tent in Mosquito netting while hanging with Clem and Cletus in a backwoods hellhole drinking warm beer with nowhere to escape to while rolling in 100% humidity.

The "creator" hates the midwest.
