The most unexpected Final Four appearance...
If only I had been a homer, my bracket would have owned this tournament.

No doubt about that. How else are you going to recruit talented players to a complete shithole like Syracuse?Sudden Sam wrote: Syracuse is, and has been, a disgusting cesspool under Boeheim.

Oh shit, I completely forgot about that. I just thought Fine was committing recruiting violations.

Re: The most unexpected Final Four appearance...
It is very rare for Cuse to get super talented players. Outside of Carmelo Anthony, name me one SU alum in the last 20 years who has been worth a damn in the NBA? But in that time they have had 4 final Fours and a National Championship. It just might be the coaching.Screw_Michigan wrote:No doubt about that. Thank you for proving my point. One backup power forward and two D-League/European League guys.Screw_Michigan wrote:John Wallace

Yep. Boeheim got got a few guys in the 80s. Of course his most heralded recruit, Billy Owens, was a total flop in the NBA. But even Billy Owens did better in the NBA than Moten and McNamera.Screw_Michigan wrote:Going back 30 years

Where did 'nova come from?
Repeat of 1985? I think it was 85. I was in school in the Navy at the time.

Not quite. That 85 Nova team was the lowest seed to win a title. This year's squad ended as on of the top ten teams in th ed country.

Re: The most unexpected Final Four appearance...
I remember making the decision to not watch the game, partly because I'm not a big college hoops fan to begin with and partly because it was a forgone conclusion that G'town would blow them out. A local kid from the Hartford area, John Pinone was a big part of that team. I think he may have played for 10 minutes in the NBA.BSmack wrote:Not quite. Re: The most unexpected Final Four appearance...
Just googled Pinone. Drafted in 83.
Guess he wasn't on that 85 team. I need to stick to civic tests. Could have sworn he was still around for the National Title team.

Here's one:smackaholic wrote:I need to stick to civic tests.
1) Is it OK to make up a phantom studies program for athletes?
2) Is it OK to fudge grades to keep a retard eligible?
3) Is it OK to implement a "strict drug policy" and then chuck the results when star players piss dirty?
4) Is it OK to knowingly play ineligible players?
Shit, I could fill a page with these.
What a treat these Final Four teams are.

I don't care. There is not much joy in CNY on an average day and this run was fun. I'll save the moral judgements for another time.

Re: The most unexpected Final Four appearance...
Big money NCAA sports in general are a fukking joke. They really need to just drop the "student athlete" charade. Recognize it for what it is. Pay the kids. This will keep some of them in "college" for 4 years which will help the game. If they want to get an education while there, fine. If they just want to shoot hoops and bang co-eds, who gives a fukk? I would also do away with the whole "amateur" thingy. They aren't fukking amateurs. A better solution might be to do as baseball has and develop more of a tiered minor league system. They have the CBA now, but nobody gives two fukks about it and the teams don't have NBA affiliations, as best I know anyway. Give them affiliations and maybe people will show more interest in it.Dinsdale wrote:Here's one:smackaholic wrote:I need to stick to civic tests.

Not a huge fan of Boeheim, but he is an exceptional bench coach. Totally schooled Tony Bennett.

The CBA died several years ago. I assume you're meaning the D-League.
The affiliations work kind of oddly in the NBADL. If they draft a player, that player stays with the team (for a couple of years, anyway). If an NBA player is sent down, he typically goes to the team that's closest to where he grew up (depending on roster openings).

And devoutly Catholic, apparently, being as how I saw a priest on their bench. Any team that knocks out the Jayhawks gets my support, as well as any team playing against a Roy Williams coached team.Goober McTuber wrote:A suburb of Philadelphia.smackaholic wrote:Where did 'nova come from?
