Never got a chance to talk to any survivors, especially the few that survived the initial assault. Have read a lot about it and them. Amazing bravery and a testimony to the American spirit. Also just the sheer task of the logistics. Making sure there were supplies to keep the survivors and the next wave of assaults going. Amazing stuff. Should be required reading for our youth.

At least those guys were fighting for a GREAT America. Today you would be fighting for a muslim president with a transgendered wife while millions of primitive third world savages are sneaking into the country every year setting up mini third world countries within our cities all the while getting free housing, free food stamps, free education, free medical insurance all at the expense of the hard working tax payers.

Yup. US economic might and logistical genius won the war. Ike started the war a mid grade officer, but his logistical genius was recognized early. Of course, that isn't enough to raise him to a Hillary level of achievement. Just ask that fukking moron, Barry. He's the one that called her the most qualified person to ever run. GW was labeled as a person prone to saying dumb things. He never came close to saying anything as stupid as that.

I did know one dude that was there, my Uncle Jack. Technically, he was my father's cousin, but Uncle Jack was what we called him. He was a Ranger and got a finger shot off on D-day. He passed in 2013. Rack him and all who were there. Too damn bad they are getting awfully scarce.

My Grandad was a machine gunner in The Queen's York Rangers, later the Royal Regiment.
He was supposed to go, but went on leave, met his brother Jack in a pub by accident whie drinking. They said 'fuck this' and ran off on a binge to Scotand. They were thrown in jail and missed it. He was reduced to a cook. He always hung a picture of Adolf on the wall and said 'next time I'm helping them'.

My great Uncle Art was in the British First Airbourne. He was supposed to land in Arnhem but he broke his leg on a practice jump beforehand. I asked him what happened and he just said, 'I'm not stupid'.

In fairness to them, Goerge and Jack were hellraisers, but sitting in England waiting for two years didn't fill the bill. They went to Scotland to find trouble.
Art saw action in Italy and told me he saw an NCO hung up in a tree, shot by one of his own counterparts. I remember reading the British 7th armoured division was dismantled in Europe after reaching world fame in North Africa, they fought themselves out and became useless as a formation.

Don't see any similarities, that generation all faced extreme economic hardship, which doesn't exist in the same way now. Now it all seems to be this bizarre state of cultural anxiety.
