Both Obama and Dr. Ben were both tone deaf at best when making those statements. I still think the context was different, but that's an argument that would be impossible to win, so I'll concede.

The thing that amazes me is that there are posters here (Rooster, Smackaholic, Wolfman, shutyomouth, trev by way of waving her pompoms from the sideline) who would rationalize slavery in any form, anywhere. "Well...it's not the worst thing that could happen to you." Ponderous. Pretty sure no one here actually had slave auctions in HS. I mean, yeah, goobs and wolfie are old enough, but they were both yankees. Sam lives in the right place, but I don't think he's quite that old. I sure his dad had slave auctions in HS, assuming he went to HS.

Totally different animal. At that HS it was completely voluntary. At Rooster's HS they actually auctioned off slaves to help pay for Homecoming.

I graduated from a high school in NC. The slave auction was run by the senior class and anyone could purchase the labors of underclassmen to do whatever menial tasks could think of, which, for the parents included yard work, washing cars, picking cotton-- that kind of stuff. You know, normal plantation chores everybody has to do, right?
