Week three random thoughts...
Figured I would start this week of with dueling stats. Texas and USC play this weekend and the two schools can't agree on the number of times they have played each other. Texas fan is a bit butt-hurt that USC's official game notes show SC as undefeated vs Texas. Meanwhile Texas' game notes show Texas with a 1-4 record vs SC. Both claim their info is the correct NCAA number.
It turns out that both are correct per the NCAA. SC was officially 0-0 in 2005 while Texas was undefeated. Texas officially gets to keep the USC and Rose Bowl wins while SC shows the season as 0-0. Both numbers are correct despite not matching.

This whole retroactively denying/erasing existence of something that actually happened is fucking stupid and is a microcosm of modern society.
If you want to vacate wins because somebody broke the rules, that's fine, but call it what it is-- a loss.
Want to make the ledgers add up correctly? Make that season 0-13 on the books.

Pretty soon, ^this is what the guy working at the DMV will say when looking at the age on one's birth certificate compared to the age one feels like being that day. :wink:Left Seater wrote:Both numbers are correct despite not matching.

Another meh showing from the Michigan offense but Air Force actually isn't half bad. They didn't give up an offensive TD until late in the game.

i'm a closet fan of Mike Gundy's run/pass offense even though i played baseball and football against him and Cale in HS and they were genuine pricks. but they were good.Left Seater wrote:Okie Oite can score points quickly, so says Marcus.
i'm in the west end bar in Boulder, Colorado having a stout. CU is on the tv up by 7 whole points on Northern Colorado. not one other person is paying attention to the game.

Great fuckin' game in the Coliseum tonight (still going).
Is this the same Texas team from week 1?

Fuck. This is nearly as good as the Rose Bowl game. Wow. Defense was off the hook. No shame in that loss.Papa Willie wrote:Agreed on both statements. Game of the year (so far).L45B wrote:Great fuckin' game in the Coliseum tonight (still going).

Great game. SC's kicker had never made a FG in a college game before tonight.
Not sure the PAC 12 should be a "power five" conference.

Re: Week three random thoughts...
Sometimes I wonder about Shaw. Seems to relish being "different." Or something. Maybe he figured "fuck it I've seen enough." But shit you've got to try and win.
The team has a lot of talent but they run the most predictable boring offense and don't even utilize most of that talent. I've never seen so many top HS quarterbacks turn into shit when they get to college. They really need to hire an OC who knows how to call a game.
One positive note for Stanford ...Bryce Love is fun to watch.
Happy for the Aztecs though. They've beaten PAC 12 two straight weeks. Maybe they'll get some well deserved recognition.

Re: Week three random thoughts...
One more thing. I don't think Shaw really cared that much about winning this game. His only real focus is on the conference championship . For that goal even the SC game wasn't all that important. Either way they have to run the PAC 12 north to get to the CCG. We'll see.

Great finish to the UF/UT game...except if you had UT +5.5. :brad:
Re: Week three random thoughts...
Texas' defense was night and day compared to the Maryland game. Shades of that '05 defense. RRS should be quite interesting this year.mvscal wrote:Fuck. This is nearly as good as the Rose Bowl game. Wow. Defense was off the hook. No shame in that loss.
