The three major leagues (MLB, NBA, NFL) all put out a product now that is inferior to what it was when I was growing up (and in my 20's).
Division I football and basketball is also inferior.

Some people may wave that take off as being merely the take of a bitter old blue-hair, but it is -----> true.

None of those products are going to reverse and get better, either.

There are a handful of reasons why it is so, but I won't waste time and energy citing them.

I went to a Brooklyn Nets game a few years ago and the whole thing was brain damage.

The game (which sucked) was like mere background music for the carnival that was going on in the arena all night.

After the Falcons collapse in the SB, it was predictable they would be sucking ass this season. Seattle never revovered from Pete Carrol's aneurysm at the GL for the championship. Atl would be better off trading choke artist Matt Ryan he'll never win anything.

Agree with pops on sports in general being inferior to years past. When I was growing up all I did was play baseball, basketball, & football. These days you don't even see kids outside, let alone playing sports, & building a foundation by learning fundementals.

I started losing interest in the NFL a couple of years ago for multiple reasons. The whole deal with the Chargers moving pretty much sealed it for me. I think I maybe watched 3 or 4 games all last season. None so far this season and probably won't watch any. I just don't GARA anymore.

BTPCFB is still cool though.

Seriously go back and watch some of those early 70 Super Bowls. Those guys could not compete in this league. There's nobody these days who can compete in the NFL after selling insurance for the entire offseason. Same goes for baseball, hockey and basketball. The players come out of college pro-ready. DeShaun Watson is not only competing as a rookie quarterback, he is dominating his competition. Did Stabler do that? Namath? Johnny U?

I think the NBA has suffered the most in terms of degraded play. Magic, Michael, Bird, etc could actually shoot, use the backboard, and run plays. These days it's 50% or more 3 pointers. Yawn, as over half brick......contributing to a more boring game flow.

To me, baseball has changed the most. Today, Altuve is the rare exception -- used to be every shortstop was an athletic version of Moving Sale. Now, every player at every position is a monster. The pitching has become so good, that players don't solely attempt to get on base -- with the dominant pitching, hitters wait for a mistake, and swing for the fences. Strikeouts used to be a mark of shame -- now, it's a badge of honor, as long as the RBI numbers are in proportion.

I don't recall multiple changes to the hand checking rules above the extended free throw line. They changed the post rules multiple times (which are still inconsistently enforced, and make little difference).

Part of the problem is how major league sports have incorporated the “too big to fail” philosophy into their method of play. Instead of banks or auto manufacturers that cannot be allowed to go under due to their supposed necessity to our economy, sports leagues have their own version of that modus operandi. Teams have individuals who are paid so much money that a hard tackle or a high and inside fastball would take these fan attractions/ticket sellers out of the lineup for the next week. This has led to a whole slew of prima donna athletes that perform the diva act and demand special treatment. We see them implore to the refs how a ticky-tack foul or a finger in the face mask kept them from the triple double or touchdown they deserve.

Baseball used to police their own. Hockey had its’ enforcers. Football was a smashmouth game.

We mocked Europeans because of the effete mannerisms of coddled soccer players who fell down holding their leg, writhing from a hard look received from an opponent. We laughed at men who made their living from figure skating. We snickered at the limp wristed Nancy-boys playing in the Canadian Football League.

Now? We are all Euro-socialists Nerfing our sports down to non-competitive, everyone gets a participation trophy, no one is keeping score to keep from hurting anyone’s feelings state of being. Quarterbacks have an enormous safe space around them and are triggered by a puff of air as the linebacker slides past him. Baseball players throw tantrums when the pitcher throws too close to his head after he flipped his bat last time he was up. Basketball players act like soccer players when backed down in the post. And hockey, that last bastion of manliness, was ruined when hard hits were outlawed and Disney On Ice with pads and sticks became the norm.

The final straw to break the camel’s back? Watching in disgust as the Left and black athletes in particular pissed on the fans and took sports, one of the last refuges from politics, and weaponized it. Never mind that they are paid in the millions of dollars to play a game. Never mind that the national anthem and our flag isn’t a political statement, but is a physical representation of the very freedoms these molly coddled athletes enjoy. The ideals for which these emblems stand for have translated into the very literal riches and opportunities they have earned in their own pursuit of happiness.

Screw professional sports and the people who populate them.

Namath, Stabler and Johnny U did that.

College players are not as fast and strong as NFLers, and they make more mistakes.
But the college game on the field is more interesting than the NFL game on the field, imo.

As I've said before, you could swap out all the NFL uniforms and let teams play in someone else's uniform and the fans could barely notice the change.
All the teams and all the games look very much the same.

I would like to see QB-Coach electronic communication eliminated.
Let the QBs call the game on the field.

And eliminate replay.

The problem with replay is it slows down the game, kills momentum and interest, and the refs still make mistakes. Not to mention too may rules are judgment calls, two different refs, two different calls.
