The cool thing about losing the trees is you can then break out their windows with your drives and then roll up and ask to play the ball as it lies. Well not ALL the liability is on the homeowner, but yes there is a doctrine known as "coming to the nuisance" that heavily sheilds the golf course in this case.

Yes it is. As long as you don’t purposely try to break their window or were acting in a recless manner then the liability is on the homeowner. Same for the highway. Our friends on a golf course in Sugar Land had an extra rider on their home insurance that paid for glass breakage on that side of the house outside of the normal deductible.
