I am not wired that way and so have difficulty understanding what Springsteen is alluding to when he talks about not knowing his identity. I cannot imagine being 60 years old and not having a solid grip on who you are, what you believe, and how to negotiate life’s twists and turns. He discusses “being” and how he has a handle on that, but not really having a clear picture of who he is.

I don’t know if this is a facet of being a musician/artist or if this is just Springsteen’s personal struggle with a hereditary problem passed on from father to son, but I have no real concept of how poor mental health can so debilitate your outlook where it confuses you as to who you are.

Any of you have any experience with this or have family with mental health issues?
