Also worth the listen.

Re: A thread for things that don't warrant their own thread
I was reading the paper last Friday and spotted a headline for a story about 1,100 mutilated dolphins washing up on the shore in France. My first thought was "Gee, I hope the '72 Super Bowl champs were in there because they're getting pretty tedious with their little champagne celebration every year."

Interesting bit of US Navy history - 'Tillman' class battleship design concept, never got off the drawing board.
Gigantism before the Bismarck and Yamato - from an English perspective, very entertaining. American politics at it's best.

That was pretty neat, doc.
Are you a Naval ship fan?
If you ever get to Hawaii, take the Missouri tour. It’s pretty neat.
If advances in aviation hadn’t rendered the Battleship obsolete, imagine what we’d have today. 150k ton, 12 turret monsters!
So, what gets your nod for all time battlewagon champeen?
I think it has to be the Iowa class. The Yamato had a bigger dick, but the Iowas were better at waving theirs. What they were able to do with fire control systems before solid state computing was even thought of is pretty impressive. Being able to hit something so far away that was moving, from a platform that was also moving is mind boggling.

Yeah, massive, love that channel. That's the most brilliant story I've ever heard - just pissed myself laughing. Do wish they had tried just one!
Imagine the Missouri tour would be a total head trip, never toured anything bigger than a Tribal-class destroyer. Sort of an historical shame Yamato and Musashi never got to put out and engage in full working order or fully fitted - I can only speculate what they were really capable of. Put me down for Yamato-class.
Got a strange fondness for Dresden-class light cruisers for speed/manoeuvrability - not so much for a wet crew and 20 degree rolls.
Kind of funny, looking up the service records of a few Tribal-class ships and wondered why they were out of action constantly without having engaged. All they did was mistakenly crash into each other. Scapa Flow and Halifax were just giant collision sites.

I’m at PVD, going in to work. Saw a weird looking plane tail.
Anybody know what airline that is?

Sure it wasn't just a blister on your prostate?
I'd have thought you'd have it pretty welll calloused by now.

Judges should not be absolving people of charges simply because they served in the military.
