Yeah, he's on a real tear in the league this year.
He's been fucking hurt on and off for the better part of 2 years now. Factor in his age, and no team would think of this guy as a solid number 1 back.

Pre-season IR listings are elgible to be activated during the season if done by a certain week (is it Week 10?).

Nope, IR = done for the year no matter when you are put on.
You are thinking PUP = Activate by week 10 or done for the year. See Bruschi

Agree to a point (esp with the injuries)- but he is not your typical 32 year old back b/c he was a back up for the first 4 years of his career. Alot of physical beatings saved from his body- helps his lonevity. But I would agree that injuries are a concern.

Nope, you're thinking of Hunk of Burning Love. Incidently, I think that song was a Ron Mexico reference

If it's true that Priest has played his last game... then his next stop is Canton. I hope he can come back, since it's a true pleasure to watch him play! If it may risk his future to come back... I hope he calls it quits.
I'd put PH in the Hall of Fame for the same reasons... Gale Sayers is in. What those two did in such a short period of time was amazing enough for both of them to be deserving of being there.
Hope things turn out well for the Texas Longhorn and great Chief running back.

Next stop Canton....? :?
Holmes has been a tremendous player, but he's no Gale Sayers, and he certainly isn't a HoF player.
First off, Sayers is STILL the NFL record-holder in kick return average and TDs......35 yrs after retirement.
Holmes played 109 NFL games and gained just a shade under 11,000 total yds.
Sayers played just 68 games and gained 9,435 total yds.
Sayers averaged 5.0 yds per carry, and 11.7 per catch
Holmes, 4.6 per carry and 8.8 per catch.
Barry Sanders, Jim Brown, Joe Perry, and Gale Sayers are the only 'prolific' NFL backs that I know of that cracked the 5.0 yd per rush mark for their career.
Sayers was DYNAMIC, BRILLIANT, a 'difference maker' of the highest caliber. Despite his career being shortened by injury, his greatness was SO overwhelming that his inclusion in the Hall is reasonable.
If Holmes could have managed to churn out a couple more LARGE seasons, getting his career rushing yd total over say, 10,000 yds, I think his HoF case would be legit.
As it is, he falls short.

Priest put up THREE VERY BIG years, that's it.
HoF....?
Your Hall is gonna need a bigger boat if you start loading up with guys like Holmes.
I vote a definite NO, sorry.

Two dominant seasons does not a HOF career make.
Holmes, like Terrell Davis, will have to be content with the Hall of Very Good.

Orc... It's more like 3 to 5 years...
If you get 66 TD's in 3 years... you're
in in my book.
Like Das said... he was a free agent, who was a backup in College.
Priest was something special.
You can hang on like Favre is... and add to the totals when it really doesn't matter... but he was there when it did.

Hall of Very Good (niiiice 'orc!)
yep.
poppy broke it down
perfectly above.
yds./carry for a running back is the ONLY measuring stick that we can carry over thoughout HISTORY.
and the Kansas Comet is "a Special" player...total yds./game.
Holmes and T. Davis are NOT equal to Gayle Sayers....GOOD but not CLOSE.
i think that poppy agrees with me on this
...still...JIM BROWN IS The BEST that ever Has Been period.
100+ yds/game rushing avg for Career--->9 Seasons.
a benchmark that has YET to be sniffed.
Walter Payton is #2.
Sanders #3.

No ... actually it's not.
Holmes had a very good year, followed by back-to-back years in which he was a dominant force in the league. His resume ...

Much like Davis, Holmes hit a two-year peak where he was among the league's best in both yards from scrimmage and touchdowns. Still, despite his gaudy numbers, he yielded MVP honors during his run (twice each) to Warner, Faulk and Gannon.
If this is where it is to end, then what a sweet ride it has been for a truly special player; however, last I checked ... the hall of fame wasn't giving out special passes for careers that should-have-been.
Were it not for a late bloom and repeated season-ending injuries, we could be having a different conversation. It is what it is, though, and Holmes is no Sayers. Only blind faith can make an argument for his inclusion and, even then, it's dependent on a fable-like spin to his career.
Great player. Great person. Great story.
Still, he's on the outside.
Via con dios, Padre ... you will be missed.

Holmes may or may not play next year. HOF discussions are about as meaningfull as a chime in the wind, at this point.

Kurt Warner is a fair comparison to TD and Holmes. Marshall Faulk has 136 TDs and nearly 17,000 yards from scrimmage. If you don't vote Faulk in on the first ballot, you should have your press credentials yanked.

It didn't take long for the KC rumor mill to start up:
Priest Holmes reportedly shut down his season in part because of Dick Vermeil's difficult practices.
Vermeil is well known for running some of the longest practices in the league. One league source told ProFootballtalk that Holmes is "A pain in the ass. He is either hurt or bitching about his contract." The Kansas City Star's Jason Whitlock believes Holmes may only play again if the Chiefs go after his signing bonus. ProFootballtalk believes Holmes will only return if Vermeil doesn't. Nov. 10 - 1:56 pm et
Source: ProFootballtalk.com
PFT has a lot of BS, but every now & then they pull something out their asses. If Holmes in fact has a spinal bulge or swelling, I don't blame him for not playing.
I guess this time of year there isn't much else to do in KC, cept' bitch, speculate and bitch some more.
