No I didn't predict any events of the game except

1. Vince would run and throw all over your defense.
2. Our oline would dominate your dline.
3. I did predict our dline would dominate your oline but that was not close to being true.
4. I did predict that the speed of our defense was something you have never seen before. That was correct.
5. I did predict Texas would out rush USC, and they did.

I never predicted we would shut you down only that we would outscore you.

And in the entire month of December I took so much shit it was unreal. During that time I held my ground.

buckey_in_sc, even though that's all true it still felt to some of us USC fans that we were dogshit for a good twenty years or so, in between the early 80s right up until Pete recently resuced the program.

I still feel like I just came in from the cold after having spent the last two decades in exile, banished to the college football wilderness.

But yeah, all in all, USC historically has a far more signifcant program than Texas.

Vito, c'mon, what else could you do but hold your ground and predict a Texas victory?

"Hoooookay, I give up. Your guys have better arguments so I guess you're right. USC will kill my Longhorns. Sorry for piping up..."

Of course not. You predicted your very good team would win, and you were hardly alone in making that prediction. Also, there would've been no shame for you had USC won 41-38, and no major reason to claim ownage over you either.

How the hell did this become a USC- Vito slugfest? I thought this was about the rematch of one of the best football games every played by Texas and maybe even OSU. We all know for many years Texas was pretty lousy and got their ass handed to them on many occasions. It is true UCLA came in here and owned us 66-3. But that was the old regime. Mack has had his share of failures and a few blowout losses to OU, but since his arrival in Austin, Texas has one of the best home records and the best overrall record in college football. Texas got a lot of heat for its failures in big games and Mack was part of that criticism as well. But for a team that went to the Horseshoe and won and then beat a great USC team in the Rose Bowl I don't think the same criticism can be levied against them anymore. This team is good. It is a force that many fans could be envious of.

1984 Season (1985 Rose Bowl) Southern Cal beat tOSU in the Rose Bowl.
1988 Season (1989 Rose Bowl) they were PAC 10 Champs and lost 22-14 to Michigan in the Rose Bowl
1989 Season (1990 Rose Bowl) they were PAC 10 champs and won the Rose Bowl
1995 Season (1996 Rose Bowl) they were PAC 10 Co - Champs and won the Rose Bowl
2002 Season (2003 Orange Bowl) they were PAC 10 Co - Champs and skull Fucked Iowa in the Orange Bowl
2003 Season (2004 Rose Bowl) they were PAC 10 Champs and beat Michigan in the Rose Bowl
2004 Season (2005 Orange Bowl) they were PAC 10 Champs, butt fucked OU in the mouth in the Orange Bowl and were National Champions
2005 Season (2006 Rose Bowl) they were PAC 10 Champs, and lost to UT in the Rose Bowl

so your assertion they were nothing between 1984 through 2002 is baseless since it is a known fact (i used the records according to CFB datawarehouse) that they were involved in a lot of Rose Bowls and won conference Championships.

Between 1985 and 1989 Texas won no more than 8 games in a season
Between 1990 and 1994 Texas had ONE 10 game winning season
Not until 1995 when Mack came in did they start winning 9 to 10 games with regularity
and until 2004 they played in ONE Sugar Bowl and ONE Fiesta Bowl (lossses to VA Tech and PSU) but the Cotton and Holiday were their home away from home more times than not between 1995 and 2003...

Just throwin some facts into the mix...just sayin'

just saw Vans post...good post...same with tOSU vs Miami...great game...lots of twists...awesome...
I think the point was that USC was not playing for the MNC during that time. Hell Texas won several conference titles between 84 and 2k5 and played in a lot of great bowl games. But Texas was not playing for MNCs during that time so USC fan says Texas was not relivent. So I used the same argument critera.

Back to the original topic, I think a big changed happened today when T Brown got arrested, he is one of the top corners in college football and a huge part of our pass defense. I have a feeling this is going to be a huge distraction for the team.

Funny but I don't seem to remember SC doing much of anything between 1984 and 2k2.
Funny, but I don't recall Texas doing much of anything since 1970.
As for these boards, SC fan was non-existant until Pete Carrol came around then we have you and a few others. I was here posting when Mac II was bumbling around the 40 acres, I was here for the 97 4-7 team. I was here in 2k when blOwU hung 63 on us, and again in 2k3 when they did it again. I have been here representing my team. You have not, so kiss my ass front runner.
I've been on these boards since the Hackett era, but what's a little revisionist history amongst friends.

Yeah, tOSU are +2.5 dogs which I believe was about the same spread for Texas in last year's game. CNNsi picked Texas 23-20... I think they picked the same score, different result last year. Buckeye fans have flooded ESPN.com's poll, looks like it's at 59/41 currently.

Can't say I'm getting much work done this week.

Well _sc, the good thing for me is that I was extra productive last week. And my boss and everyone around here knows I'm going to the game Saturday, so they aren't expecting much from me this week. Although it is month-end closing for us accounting/finance people, which kinda sucks balls.

10 reasons why Ohio State will win today
By Kyle Nagel

Dayton Daily News

Saturday, September 09, 2006

10: Quarterback Troy Smith (uniform No. 10). Go ahead, you try to tackle him.

9: Running back Antonio Pittman has nine 100-yard rushing performances in 23 career games, including six in his past eight games.

8: The Buckeyes have won eight straight games by an average of 22 points.

7: This is the seventh season Ohio State has opened No. 1. In the previous six, the Buckeyes won an average of 6.5 games before their first loss.

6: Six times since losing 25-22 to Texas on Sept. 10 of last season, Ohio State has scored at least 35 points. The Buckeyes have averaged 33.7 points in the 11 games total.

5: This season is the fifth time Texas has opened No. 3 in the Associated Press poll. The Longhorns have lost to the highest-ranked team they've faced each of the previous four times.

4: Receiver Ted Ginn Jr. had four catches (for 123 yards and two touchdowns) in the opener against Northern Illinois, a much faster start (no pun) than he had last season.

3: The Buckeyes have played three games in the state of Texas, in which they've gone 3-0 (1976 against SMU at the Cotton Bowl; 1987 against Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl; 2004 against Oklahoma State in the Alamo Bowl).

2: In Jim Tressel's five-plus seasons, Ohio State has lost just two of the nine games it has played against teams ranked in the Top 10.

1: Ohio State is ranked No. 1. Enough said.

Ten reasons why Texas will win today

10: OK, 10.13, but close enough. That's the time, in seconds, tailback Jamaal Charles has run the 100 meters. And it's really, really fast.

9: The Longhorns have a nine-game winning steak against ranked opponents.

8: In his first eight seasons in Austin, Mack Brown coached Texas to an 83-18 record, a winning percentage of 82.1.

7: The Longhorns have seven returning starters on both offense and defense from the 2005 national championship team. Those 14 players have made a combined 264 starts.

6: Beginning with Game 6 of 2004, Texas has won 21 straight.

5: This is the fifth time Texas has played in a game matching teams ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the Associated Press poll. The Longhorns are 4-0 in those games.

4: Four receivers on the Texas roster have at least one career catch of 30 yards or more.

3: Texas has lost just three of the 47 home games it has played with Mack Brown as coach (6.4 percent).

3: The past two Broyles Award winners (top assistant coach) are on the Longhorns staff — offensive coordinator Greg Davis (2005) and co-defensive coordinator Gene Chizik (2004).

1: Just one school has at least 10 wins in each of the past five seasons. You guessed it, Texas.

About that home record, 2 of the losses were in Brown's first season. They lost to NC State and K-State. The only other loss was to Arkansas a couple of years ago. Granted the OU game is not a "home" game, but still that record at home is often over looked. Texas usually doesn't grab the attention of being a tough road trip.

Thanks Shawn, Firsco screwed the pooch on that one. :)

After watching the breakdown, I think Texas passing game and pass defense are in a lot worse shape than I previously thought. The pass defense I believe can be fixed with the return of Kelson, Brown, and Marcus Grif. The pass offense is another story. BTW I counted 6 passes that hit the receiver in the hands and were dropped. The real problem after watching those videos was that Colt's decisions were pretty bad. On the Int he made every mistake possible including locking in on the one target. I had to laugh though because on the Int. Charles was wide open under the zone and there was not a player within 5 yards of him.

Best quote has to be
I'm not sure what the refs could have possibly seen on the roughing the passer penalty. It wasn't late. If it was "helmet-to-helmet," that's even worse. Helmets touch at some point on nearly every tackle. Outside of Oklahoma, humans walk upright. Their heads generally touch at some point on a collision. It was actually great defense by Ohio State that gave Texas the ball 1st down near the goal line.

Actually the game was much closer than the score. I know it sounds kinda bitchy but Texas left 10 pts on the field and two turnover resulted in 10 pts for tOSU. I'm not saying Texas was going to win, it was obvious from Rob's breakdown they could have passed on us all day if they wanted to. just saying that the game was decided on about 5 or 6 big plays.

Yes, yes it does.

ND left at least 10 points on the field against GaTech, so that was still a close game.

PSU left at least 10-13 points on the field, and had one fumble that was returned for a score. They still got their asses kicked.
