You took the time to look up and post an article that refutes the point you were originally trying to make?

Clever.
Cheating to win championship seems to be the real PAC 10 tradition

You'll notice that nowhere in that article did it say that the university or its staff were in any way complicit in those violations under James or Lambright.

You'll also notice that the article does in fact bring up the #3 overall ranking, at a time when you were implying that the program was in some sort of down period.

Again...was there a point here?

You moron, James said the school did no wrong. Now look closely you will see that the NCAA thought otherwise. Ever heard of Lack of institutional control? I believe the article said Udub was placed on two years probation for basically doing what USC has done.

I can see that Pete is allowing alums and a few local celebrities in to practice but I dont recall seeing Pete intorducing Drew Rosenhaus or Leigh Steinburg to the team
I'm not even smacking here, but seriously, can you fucking read? Where did I say that he is introducing anyone to the team? Agents don't need a formal introduction, they do that themselves once they see the player. Carroll was allowing them to come to practice and hang around Heritage Hall whenever they fucking felt like it. Do you not think this practice is reckless? If not reckless, really fucking stupid?

This isn't that fucking hard.

Actually, the NCAA levied no additional penalties against UW. It was the Pac-10 that put UW on probation.
Ok, so the Pac 10 crackdown was enough that the NCAA didn't offically crack its whip. Probation is still probation.

Jimmah, I'm not saying that giving a decent stipend and/or allowing players to work solves the problem of having agents hanging around like vultures. I'm saying that getting rid of the NCAA's arcane rules and making it no longer illegal for players to earn money while in college (same as any other kid in college is free to do) would solve the NCAA problem.

The main problem here is that under the NCAA too many perfectly logical practices are illegal.

Most of 'em shouldn't be.

I have no problem with that, my only point was that the last time a Pac 10 team won the MNC they got put on probation, and it looks like USC is headed in that same direction. In statistics that is the beginning of a trend. If nothing else, its very ironic.

I had no idea you could draw conclusions from a statistically-invalid sample. Brilliant.

You have gone from an easily-diregarded gnat to a full-blown moron with zero credibility in only two weeks' time. I have to give you props, that is a remarkable accomplishment and m2ool will be eternally grateful.

Objectivity has been the cornerstone of this particular board, and the main reason most of us continue to come here. Props for bucking the trend and taking any and every homer stance you possibly can regarding Texas.

Keep believing that Austin is a Utopian society. Just like the wine in my cellar - the degree of laughability in your posts today will only get better in time.

It sucks that the guys that cheat get-off free while the university(justifiably or not) takes the punishment.

USC could be on probation because momma and poppa Bush are not good people. Hey folks, quit expoiting your kid Tiger...errr...I mean Reggie.

Well considering your conference has had two teams win championships in the last 25 years I could say that both were outliers, but I decided to give you the benefit of the doubt and say that since both have and probably will end in probation it was a trend. You are right the Pac 10 sucks too much to draw any kind of trend from winning championships.

Huge difference between what went on at U Dub in the early 90's and what happend with Bush.
The Washington players and their families were provided with gifts and benfits from Washington boosters so that the players would stay and play at Washington. Reggies family was given the benfits from someone not involved with the school and with the intention of getting Reggie to leave the school and turn professional.

The NCAA recognizes this and in 2001 they changed the rule and lessened the liabilty of a school if a player was given the improper benfits from an agent instead of someone who was involved with the school.

I think that if there is any proof that an agent has contacted a collegiate athlete while that athlete still has NCAA eligibility left, that agent should lose their license.

Actually, Rick was a QB at UCLA. He got his first real break at CU. He also cheated like a muthafucker too. His trip to UW was like a guy fresh out of rehab landing in Amsterdam.

it's not about where they went to college dumbass, it's about someone in the know, spilling the info to the wrong person. and this is a huge story, any writer would run with this info. If a former Nevada peep found this shit out, he would run with it too.

Nothing gives you press and recognition, like bringing down someone on top.

Van,

College athletes are no different than the average worker in the US. They are compensated for their contribution. The worker gets a salary, the player gets a scholarship. Neither gets paid for all the money they bring in.

I also find it funny that the two former college athletes that I know of one this board don't feel that college scholarship athletes should be paid. And as someone already pointed out, how much do you pay the goalkeeper on the womans field hockey team?

Rack Meds for his level headed take on this. I have to agree with him that I would be surprised if anything happens going forward, but I wouldn't be surprised to see stuff taken away.

Checking into this thread for the first time. Too many points of idiocy... too many ignorant statements... too many downright stupid takes to take the time to address here.

I'm too tired. Long night last night. Coffee hasn't kicked in yet. Van, just do me a favor and call yourself an idiot and save me the trouble.
