^^Sort of in agreement here.

If Miami started playing with some class and integrity, I'd want to know who did what with thei real "U."

Miami's always been a bunch of low-life thugs, it's just that this year they're a bunch of low-life thugs with a piss poor football team.

Not likely that they'll do it. They're still gun-shy after what happened to SMU's program when it got shut down. That was nearly 20 years ago, and that program still isn't back.

according to AP, thomas just got canned. he was on dan patrick and said he was supposed to talk with his boss but DP called first, so he'd take that call first. extended his employment by about 10 minutes.

Over on Miami's scout.com boar there was a ton of guys getting all psyched about the brawl, loving the return to "old school" Miami. Is there any wonder Miami is the most hated program in the country?

Not that I'm a defender of Miami's program by any stretch of the imagination, but I don't think the NCAA has any authority to do that, in any event. I think the most serious weapon in their arsenal is the so-called "death penalty", which in actuality is only a one-year shutdown of the program.

If Miami was shut down, they would be reborn as Central Florida, FIU, Flordia Atlantic, etc. It's no surprise that the rise of Miami is directly tied to Howard Shitburger.

Impressive how Miami has stepped up after the brawl. Fire a radio annoucer and increase the suspension of only the helmet-swinger. Everyone else only misses the Duke game. Great steps to end the thug culture at the U. Way to go.

Some might want to, but I bet the majority (USF fans and alumni) don't want to and wouldn't. Mucho can chime in, but they don't seem to be cut from the Miami cloth.

not so sure it is a University of Miami problem. having satelite TV you can watch High School and even Pop Warner games from the football crazed South Florida and the taunting behavior is rampant at those levels too.
Is it fair to ask larry Coker to try to stop these kids from behaving a way that their parents, youth and High school coaches have taught them to behave?
Unless the NCAA wants to put the money and effort in to properly policing youth and high school football programs, sticter punishment for the taunting needs to be implemented.
On top of 15 yards for taunting immediate ejection from that game and suspension from the next game for the offending player.
A second taunting penalty in the game will have the Head Coach ejected from the game as well
Remove the midfield logos to prevent that whole "stomping on our logo" crap.
Take away the disrespect to the opponent and you take away incidents like this one

Lamar Thomas was doing the color when I was flipping around on Gameplan last night. He was one of the worst of the worst when it came to shit-talking WRs in the '80s and '90s.

He was also the guy running in for a TD before George Teague ran down and stripped him in the '92(?) Sugar when Bama beat Miami for the title. One of the all time great jack moves in CFB history.

Edit: if i remember right, in a Cotton Bowl against Texas where Miami won 49-3 and had a zillion yards in personal foul penalties, Thomas scored a TD on a pass play and not only ran into the stands to celebrate, but he ran the steps all the way up to the top row. That was pretty deece.

MIAMI — Former University of Miami player Lamar Thomas lost his TV analyst job yesterday over comments he made during a sidelineclearing brawl involving the Hurricanes and Florida International.

Comcast Sports SouthEast, a regional cable network that hired Thomas before the season, also decided to edit out his comments before the game is replayed this week.

"We do not support or condone any of the comments that were made by Lamar," CSS general manager Mark Fuhrman said. The network, which is available in 5.5 million homes, will replay the game twice Wednesday.

Thomas made his comments as dozens of Miami and Florida International players stormed the Orange Bowl field and fought during the third quarter Saturday night, an incident that led to the suspension of at least 31 players and forced officials from both schools to apologize for the melee.

"Now that’s what I’m talking about," Thomas said as the brawl raged out of control. "You come into our house, you should get your behind kicked. You don’t come into the OB playing that stuff. You’re across the ocean over there. You’re across the city. You can’t come over to our place talking noise like that. You’ll get your butt beat. I was about to go down the elevator to get in that thing."

Miami and Florida International have campuses 9 miles apart in Miami-Dade County. It was the first meeting between the two programs, and the Hurricanes went on to win 35-0.

As the fight slowed, Thomas’ comments continued.

"I say, why don’t they just meet outside in the tunnel after the ballgame and get it on some more? You don’t come into the OB, baby," Thomas said. "We’ve had a down couple years but you don’t come in here talking smack. Not in our house."

A tape of the fight, including Thomas’ comments, was available on the Internet the past two days.

Thomas was a third-round draft pick of Tampa Bay in 1993 and spent six seasons in the NFL. He could not be reached for comment.

Not saying that they are aspiring to be Hurriganstas North. Just that if Miami were to go under, that would free up a whole lot of South Florida blue chippers. And USF has something that Central Florida, FIU and Flordia Atlantic don't. Namely, the chance to play in a BCS game.

How many mid-majors have played in a BCS game? Like 2? I guess it's possible for FIU to someday get a BCS bid. But if they did, it would be the culmination of years of building. USF can dangle that BCS carrot as a realistic possibility, not some kind of pie in the sky remote possibility,

This presupposes that every potential Miami recruit is an unrepentant thug. It also assumes that the culture at Miami isn't also to blame for encouraging otherwise good kids to do stupid things in the name of team unity.

With the addition of another BCS game and rules in place that now allow at large teams to be selected above BCS confrence champs, it's not as a long shot as it used to be.

No, not every Miami player/recruit is a thug. But they have a higher percentage than other schools, which leads to scrums like the one on saturday. Those players would end up going to the other 3 schools.

We actually do a good deal of recruiting down in Dade and Broward counties. There have only been 1 or 2 instances where we landed a guy from that area that also had interest in Miami. We'll stick to mainly recruiting the greater Tampa area and down in Bradenton/Sarasota, but I think Coach Leavitt and his staff like the players we have gotten from down in Miami.

This could be a very good year recruiting wise for us if we finish up well and Miami continues to remain in such a poor state by their standards.
