I always wonder what people like that are thinking when they start swinging at each other in full pads and helmets. How much damage are you really going to do?

This really shed's Coker in even worse light. Goldtoof U is rife with nothing more than athletes, not teamates. Coker clearly hasn't instilled a sense of 'team', accountability, sportsmanship, or intelligence.

Yeah, I saw it. i was just talking about swinging at a dudes head when he has a helmet on. kinda pointless if you ask me. That dude that took off his helmet was an idiot. yes you can use it as a weapon but that opens up your dome to getting caved in. The best bet is to yank off an opponents helmet and start swinging it around. I guess those gorillas aren't smart enough to think of that.

Brawl breaks out in FIU-Miami game

MIAMI (AP) -- A sideline-clearing brawl interrupted the third quarter of the Florida International-Miami game Saturday night, prompting the ejection of 13 players in the first meeting between the South Florida rivals.

FIU had eight players ejected, Miami had five. It was the first on-field fight in FIU's five-year football history, school officials said.

Florida International's ejected players were wide receiver Chandler Williams, defensive backs Lionell Singleton, Chris Smith and Marshall McDuffie Jr., fullback John Ellis, linebacker Mannie Wellington, tight end Samuel Smith and defensive end Jarvis Penerton.

The ejected Miami players were offensive linemen Derrick Morse and Chris Barney, running back Charlie Jones, and cornerbacks Carlos Armour and Bruce Johnson.

All 13 players are expected to be suspended for one game.

The fight started shortly after Jon Peattie's extra point with 9:00 left in the third quarter gave Miami a 14-0 lead. Both sidelines quickly emptied, with several fights breaking out during the melee before order was restored.

The brawl lasted about five minutes, and it took officials several more minutes to sort out the penalties. Players from both sides appeared to be swinging helmets, and one injured FIU player came onto the field swinging a crutch at Miami players.

More than two dozen uniformed police officers came onto the field, trying to end the fights.

Several minutes after order was restored on the field, one fight broke out among fans in the northwest corner of the end zone, with more than 12 police officers running into the stands to break up that melee. More officers, including some wearing helmets, continued to surround the perimeter of the field.

Tensions ran high throughout the evening, with several instances of players exchanging heated words at the end of plays.

But emotions boiled over after Miami's second touchdown.

James Bryant caught a 5-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Wright, then drew a 15-yard flag for unsportsmanlike conduct. After that catch, he appeared to point at the FIU bench, then took a theatrical bow.

Moments later, Peattie kicked the extra point and the brawl started

'SwatI'mtalkingabout. Goldtoof U of old woulda already done all their talking on the field by the end of the 1st quarter vs. a team like Florida Atlantic. 24-0 or something of that order. Guess flying helmets and knee stomps have slowly erplaced TD's and sacks.

Did Coker REALLY say this? I'm STUNNED.

"I think that it will affect the image of our program greatly, but in a positive way," Miami coach Larry Coker said. "I think that when they see the video and they see how it was handled they will be impressed with our players. This will not be a very big thing for the University of Miami. It was impressive in that it was handled very well."

Was he referring to his players showing enough discipline to leave their guns and knives on the bench?

reminds me of the city schools when they used to play. poor policeman couldnt just go to work, they had to work the highschool football games, because the idiots cant just enjoy the game, they have to fight before, during, and after.

we had to face them in playoffs every year, nothing like being pinched,bit, and poked in every scrum during the tackle. oh yeah, then tyrone the local drug dealer sitting on our sidelines threatening us, oh the good ole times. course we beat them 3 of the 4 years, so it was bitter sweet

Lamar Thomas was doing the color when I was flipping around on Gameplan last night. He was one of the worst of the worst when it came to shit-talking WRs in the '80s and '90s.

He was also the guy running in for a TD before George Teague ran down and stripped him in the '92(?) Sugar when Bama beat Miami for the title. One of the all time great jack moves in CFB history.

Edit: if i remember right, in a Cotton Bowl against Texas where Miami won 49-3 and had a zillion yards in personal foul penalties, Thomas scored a TD on a pass play and not only ran into the stands to celebrate, but he ran the steps all the way up to the top row. That was pretty deece.

The Hurricanes designated Saturday's event ''Salute to Florida High School Football Day,'' inviting every high school football team in the state to attend the game free, said UM senior associate athletic director Pete Garcia, who takes over as athletic director at FIU on Monday.

Ninety minutes before kickoff, about 25 players from Hollywood McArthur High School and 50 from Fort Lauderdale High marched single file into the Orange Bowl gates.

'They were very excited to have an opportunity to come and experience the Hurricanes' atmosphere,'' said Fort Lauderdale coach Charles Hafley, a former Clemson safety. ``Everybody has been talking about this game for the past month. They've all been wearing their UM jerseys.''

Hafley said only three of the 50 who attended Saturday had been to the Orange Bowl for a football game.

Let's see, he's saying that Meriweather going Marcus Vick on 2 different FIU players will affect the image of Miami in a positive way?

If Meriweather had more time I am sure he would have gone back to the locker room and brought out his registered firearm.

Its no shocker, Miami had a brawl like that in a game at SDSU years ago.
When your whole team wants to show up the other team, you should expect to be cheap shotted.
I guarantee it if I was playing you stick a ball in my face or dance around -mod edit- after making a good play trying to show me up, your knee will be blown out the very next play.
Make a play, hand the ball to the ref and get back to the huddle or sideline, if you want to high five your team mate for making the good play thats great, but dont try to show up your opponent and not expect retaliation

Strike one. You only get two before a timeout. Knock that shit off.

How many times do you see that anymore? I don't see that very often, and even when it does happen someone else on that team will showboat. Showboating is way too prevelent these days and the refs should be quick to call unsportsmanlike conduct penalties (which I do believe the Miami player received).

Irvin was just on the Dan Patrick show and was pretty objective. He said the comments by Thomas were stupid and he should be fired. Thomas came on and said he was joking.

Mind you, this is the same Lamar Thomas who was arrested for assulting his pregnant girlfriend/fiance.

these are the good old days of miami football! this is what it's all about! doesn't get much better than precipitating a riot with the cross town school, then pulling out all the stops ranging from stomping players at the bottom of a pile to cracking dudes in their domes with your helmet from behind, THAT is the U, baby. NOBODY shits in their crib and gets away with it.

top that all off by celebrating their "win" in the riot by jumping up and down on the sidelines and their color analyst all but saying if he was on the field with a gatt, he'd blow away every motherfucker on the field. that is some good shit.

brilliant, in fact, i ENCOURAGE more of this behavior by thug u. i think they should have a four team tournament including LSU, miami, clemson, and south carolina in atlanta. we'll call this the DARWIN tournament. the goal is to have one team standing: literally and figuratively. one team wins the title while slaugtering every player on the field on the way to the top. first team to kill another player gets to play a man up for that game. that should make it interesting.

this year's version of prison work camp ERRR U football makes testeverde and all those other dudes on the 87 team who came off the plane in fatigues look like a bunch of sapping pussies.
