The prospect of an increase in the capital gains rate ahead could lead to a surge in revenue now as investors take their gains while the lower rate is in effect.
(I'm sort of wondering exactly which "gains" they're referring to.)
Mikey, it reads poorly to me, but I'm no financial wizard.

To me, the author is describing how investors will pull their money out, take the hit on whatever gains they might have on the LOW RATE, that exists now. Since investors will pull their money out of their investments and have to pay a tax on the "gain", there will be an upsurge in revenue. I.E. That money will be taxed NOW, at a lower rate, as opposed to ever being taxed later at a HIGHER rate. So before Obama can impose a higher tax, people will pull their money out, so it will never be taxed at Obama's higher rate. The net effect, according to my interpretation of the article is a lack of capital to grow business. Less jobs, and less raises. Bad for business, apparently.

That's the theory. But, as mvscal is too blindingly ignorant to figure out, with the market at it's lowest value in about 5 years there are very few "gains" to pull out.

Mikey,

Depends on when you got "in", I suppose.

If you've "gained" $1,000 over the years and then lost $900 due to the recent meltdown, you have still "gained".

Also, I'm not sure if people are taxed for capital gains if they move money out of the market into other investements or not.

While I understand the hair you've split here, I find it immaterial. Your critique doesn't seem to refute the argument that high taxes on capital gains disuade investment in certain areas - areas that are good for business, good for government revenue, and good for people who get jobs.

Is there empirical data that suggests an increase in capital gains taxes is GOOD for the economy ?

As I have already stated, I as well, am not voting for either McCain or Obama. Yet, I am still voting.

You have said that you haven't voted for POTUS since pappy Bush. That's a lonnnng time to not vote.

If that isn't pissing away your right, nothing is. Go ahead and spin it however you care to, you are part of the problem. All talk, no action.

Pathetic.

When did I ever say it was wrong to USE the word? What is not ok is to try and use it as a sword by calling someone a ni..gger. In mvsKKal case over and over and over. That's what vile racist fuckstains do. People like you guys.

I get that neither of you can read, but you might want to try it just this once. That way you have a chance of forming a coherent retort.

Haven't offered any comments. I have fully disclosed my lack of knowledge on the subject and maintain an open mind in order to address that ignorance. I've also asked questions of those who have offered comments, presuming, they do know.

Now how about you offer up a take about the issue and stop sucking, if you are so knowledgeable. I'm prepared to read and be enlightened.

McCain’s campaign manager Rick Davis said Sunday on ABC News that if suburban and rural voters “haven’t bought into the Obama massage … they’re probably not gonna.”

In a conference call with reporters this weekend, Davis said, "We're pretty jazzed up about what we're seeing in the movement in this election."

"We are witnessing, I believe," he said, "probably one of the greatest comebacks that you've seen since John McCain won the [Republican] primary."
I'm assuming that he means the Republican nomination. Which would make this an extremely amazing comeback, considering that it happened way back in....September.

First you have ACORN commiting massive voter fraud.

Then Obamessiah ensures that his donations can't be tracked so he gets unlimited funds.

What's next, Black Panthers intimidating voters?
