The ones I had were not as prominent as the ones in your picture. Wearing the turf shoes was something that started with the football players. Buying a pair of turf shoes was a way of telling everybody that you expected to play in sectionals, since those were the only games played on turf. I found them to be comfortable and wore them, like many of my teammates, until they wore out. Then again, I also owned painter pants and designer jeans back then too. But NEVER a pair of parachute pants. Although I did try a pair on at the urging of my girlfriend. I told her they just about the gayest things I had ever seen and walked out of the store.
